Several ponies have a natural fear of snakes.

 

So there could be an episode about this and delve into the basis of this fear. It could work as a Fluttershy episode as Ponyville gets swarmed by a lot of snakes and it causes problems.

 

Then another episode could get more troublesome as a long lost serpent civilization returns to invade Equestria and enslave the ponies. They also happen to be resistent or immune to Unicorn/Alicorn magic.

Love it. 10/10 would fund these episodes.

 

On a more serious note, I don't even see why they are afraid of snakes, honestly...They could just crush them under-hoof like regular horses would do...

I do think this would make for a interesting Fluttershy episode if it wasnt about standing up for yourself.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. I think it could actually work for an episode, and a rather funny one at that. I approve.

Well they already did that first idea, with those fruit bats. So I don't see them doing that again.

 

The next one sounds alright, but how would they do about beating it if magic does not work? Still it does sound like an alright episode.

They're snakes aka cold blooded. Pegasus can make the weather cold to fight them off, but that would have an adverse effects like ruining crops.

This is the writers showing the stereotype of a horse reacting to a snake IRL.

 

A equine type animal that is hooved in general spends it life upright and rarely knows its belly to the earth (cows are a good example). Creatures that spend there life on there bellies are a natural fear for them, its ying and yang. Like a human with a spider. Why do we fear spiders? We have four limbs, they have 8, its wrong in our minds, its a primal fear. Thats nature. Like a horse that fears a snake or anything low to the earth.

 

The show does a fine job adding in 
"real elements"

to the characters, its often subtle like the snort some of the male characters make when upset. Big Mac and several of the palace guards are examples.
