The first few posts here are gonna look a bit weird now that I ain't asking for feedback. Thanks for the input, guys! And thanks for pointing out the weird gear shadow problem, @.

 

 

 

 

I wanted to give a little shine to Derpy's mane without making it look like a balloon like artists sometimes do. I think I was successful.

I'm no good at giving detailed criticism of this stuff (hopefully someone else does), but I'm liking it so far. I am curious as to what it would look like with darker shading though.

Hrmmmm.... I like it in general, as I'm always fond of your style.

 

Specific criticisms: I think the shading may be a touch too dark relative to the tone of the main drawing. You might want to try either lightening the shadows a touch, or darkening the main colours of the two figures a touch. The shadow in Derpy's mane seems a bit odd to me, as I would have expected a dark blonde shadow, rather than such a contrasting gray.

 

But I'm not that great of an artist, as you know, so take everything I say with that regulated grain of salt.

I used a dark blue instead of straight up black because that tends to look better. Since yellow is its complimentary color, it takes a grayish tone on her mane.

It looks great to me; the only thing i can really see is that the color of the shading of Derpy's mane looks a bit odd and contrasts a bit too much, but that's really the only thing I can see. And even then, it's not that noticeable.

 

The shading is well done everywhere else though; especially with Doctor Whooves.

But besides that, it looks really good. Great attention to detail, and I love the shading work on Derpy's mane. The complementary tone really sets it apart. Nice work.

Yeah, the gears are one image, so I can't shade them separately.

I'd call it an improvement. Drawing the line between how busy you want it and how simplistic you want it is always a tricky decision. I like the original because I love your smooth style, but I think that the few extra lines in his hair doesn't really detract from that at all while it adds detail.

 

Dunno if any of that made sense. I'm not an art critique, really. I can tell if I like something or not but sometimes it's hard to put to words why.

Random. Trust me, if I knew how to write "this is a tie" in Gallifreyan, I would have stuck it on there.
