This... is actually pretty good.

Why not?

I do not this this would be such a great idea since brohoofs are meant to be a way to show appreciation towards great posts or posts which you agree with. Status updates are usually just short sentences, often with random information or silly things, it could easily become a way to bump your brohoof counter. Status updates and comments are meant to be a quick way to interact with the community through short messages, personally I'm not a big fan of the idea to be able to brohoof those.

Brohoofs in status updates has actually been discussed before here and here.

As DashForever said in one of the threads, it also depends on if it actually is possible to do this with status updates in IP Board. Otherwise you could just add a fast comment saying "awesome" or "I agree" :)

I do where he's coming from, if we had this, staff members and famous members would get like a million likes on every status they post and that would kinda be a bit shit

i think there should be a seperate brohoof counter in that case, brohoofing statuses should be allowed, look at facebook, you can like when people sneeze or whatever, i vote for a brohoof for statuses

So, people have mistaken me for a nice guy. I'm not. Don't like it? Tough. Your loss.

Yes, CD mentioned this in one of the threads I posted above, however I am still wondering what the point of it is. It could make people start brohoofing status updates instead of actually leaving a comment. This will then lead to less comments being made. I don't know about you guys but I would prefer to get comments instead of brohooves. Hopefully people would not become too "lazy" to comment from such a feature, and hopefully people will leave both a comment and a brohoof. I'm probably just being too worried :P

Anyways, as long as the brohooves in status updates would not count towards your brohoof counter, I don't really care if it is added or not, but I'm absolutely not against it :) Then again, I don't know if it's possible to even do. I suspect we would need to ask someone who works with the tech of the site, or just someone who knows IPB very well.

  • 2 weeks later...

I can agree it can be abused.

As for the less comment prediction I already get comments as scarcely as it is. (I've addressed this issue multiple times to little recognition)

believe it or not, I myself am one to know how IP.board works. I had one for a Minecraft server I used to do. You should add brohoofable status updates. but that doesn't mean it will overall add to their total count of broohoofs on their profile page.

I completely agree with this. ^^

I think you should have brohoofable statuses, but it not count towards your brohoof count.

I mean, it would be a cool idea. ^^"

And if the main concern is about the brohoof count, just disable it for statuses.

But what about those statuses that you can't really comment on because there's nothing to comment about and it just deserves an applause?

Then you would just brohoof it. (\

Just like Facebook. ^^

.

Again, it not counting toward your brohoof count.

No offense, but I highly doubt that someone didn't think of something that simple.

Oh, I have! ^^

I just never posted it. x3

Can we add a brohoof function to statuses without having the brohoof count as a brohoof?

post-1052-0-93634000-1352678450.gif actually suggested this in one of the older threads:

Could perhaps turn off the counter though, so that unlike forum brohoofs, they don't add to your overall amount, and only serve as a positive way to show your recognition of agreeing with someone.

Paladin, you said that you know it is possible, if it isn't something hard to implement, I suppose that either @, @@Justin ZW or @@Feld0 could take a look at it.

I completely agree that you should be able to brohoof statuses but instead of it not doing anything it could be measured through a separate thing. For example, if you looked on someones profile it would say something along the line of status brohoofs and post brohoofs. I still would be totally fine with it not going into anything at all just a way of showing appreciation.  Either way i think would be good

I looked around for a bit and the two things I found were

1. There was an extension for IP.Board long ago when you were able to like statuses (sadly not without it counting as actual likes) but it is very outdated and I could not find it anywhere.

2. IPS themselves would most likely not create the feature...

I don't particularly like this idea mainly because I feel like statuses are small and compressed little nuggets of info. They go by quickly because the side status bar is always rushing with new statuses. If they're not going to be there for a terribly long time, it kinda makes it seem pointless to me. I don't think very many people go and just scroll through statuses.

Not all compressions are nuggets, meaning that just because sentences are few that doesnt mean that they are any less relevant.

I have this contention with far too many people.
