When a Brony Can't buy a Pony

So basically have you ever went to a store and saw some MLP merch but you couldn't get for some lame reason? Example took my wife to the mall yesterday and saw Fluttershy and being the fan I am, I walked right up to it nout to go to the counter and my wife stops me in my traks with a no way.

Didn't get my pony :c any pony else get this from their other half?

I personally have not had this problem because I'm just that random where they don't care what shenanigans I do. Maybe get it when you are alone? Maybe discuss the issue of owning it?

Best option is more than likely discuss it out and see then if you could go get it. Try to come to terms and talk about how you like the show so you want something from it.

Sorry to disappoint, this site can get quite hostile. OT: have you tried discussing it with your wife? My ex-wife was real iffy about it until I talked to her about it.

Okay, well the next question is this... how long have you been a brony for? and in effect, how long have you known your wife for/been married with her for?

Perhaps it makes her feel uncomfortable , especially if she isn't a brony. Maybe you should respect that and not make it so public or at least talk to her about it. Most girls especially those not into MLP may support it but if they see their hubby walking around in pony gear it might make them feel a bit iffy, you want her to respect your side you need to respect hers too :P

then that may be it, if you are still relatively new to MLP, then she may think that it is just a fad that you will forget about after a while. How-ever I do not think it has anything to do with money, it could be she is worried of what others will think if they see you with a mlp plushie, she could have heard all the bad things about Bronies and are thinking we're all tat stereotype, there could be many things that come into play. I suggest you sit down with her and talk with her about it, Ask her why she did what she did, and try to come to a compromise or something. Show her some of your favorite episodes and songs, and see if she can come to understand about it all.

3 years together :) I'm still technically new to MLP.

I'm sure she will come to understand it if you explain it to her, after all wife and husband should support each other.

I don't really have that problem since I'm a girl and my partner supports anything that makes me happy.

I see what yall are saying, just to clarify she is very supportive of me. Yea I can see the part about be uncomfortable with her hubby walking out with a yellow pony with pink hair may seem strange ;) and I appreciate the positive feed back.

Even being a brony I would find it if my previous or any future partner walked around in full pony gear, theres nothing wrong with liking a show but I think that takes it to far, you don't see people walking around in full pokemon or DBZ gear, and they are equally as big if not bigger fandoms , at the end of the day you have to come to the middle ground in relationships :P

Never had this problem, honestly, and since you're paying for it, I presume, neither should you.

I buy all of my pony merch myself, out of my own pocket, since my grandmother refuses to purchase any of it for me. When I take money I earned myself to purchase pony merch, though, she can't really say anything since it's my money, and if she does (and I'm usually not this much of a dissident with her) I bring up the fact that I earned the money being used to pay for this entirely on my own and that she really has no control over what it goes to.

She doesn't argue back :D

Now, of course, in your personal situation, tell her to sit herself down, son. You're your own man, and she really shouldn't make decisions for you, whether you're married or not; that's not healthy.

My reaction:

I dont usually get merch, but when I do I (choose Dos Equis) get something not so big and not so small. I'm not one for plushies, but I'll get keychains and stuff.

Nobody seems to have a problem with it, hell I just bought a Celestia "obey' sticker and my family members thought it was funny

Well a year ago, my dad basically forbid me from buying anything pony. He said that I could not waist my money on something so stupid when I didn't have a job (which is also the reason I was given that pony gift from a fellow brony-if you wanna know what I'm talking about, just messsage me). But as soon as I did end up getting a job, I go to Wall Mart a lot to buy mostly blind bags, or ccg cards. I collect them, and they don't cost to much so yay me. Me dad still isn't a big fan that I keep buying it, but since I have my own job, I can.

We go to District Forensics this Sat. If we make it to the next round (state) we will be going to the mall, and I'm gonna hit Hot Topic, and get as much pony merch as I can!

That's a problem....My husband first thought my love of pony was strange, but accepted it (and is now a closet brony himself). Your spouse should accept your enjoyment of something especially as innocent as FIM. If your spouse cannot accept you enjoying your medium by getting merch every now and then (within your financial stability), then there is quite an acceptance problem.

If your enjoyment of MLP is so great that you want to get merchandise, what reason does she have to say "No"?  As a married couple, you should take pride and joy in what your spouse enjoys, even if you do not like it yourself. In other words, you should be happy for your spouse because they are happy. That's should be a natural part of marriage.  If she denies you a very simple happiness, then that shows that she is being selfish. Marriage has no grounds for selfishness if it is to be a happy, fruitful marriage. This situation would be very different and understanding if you were not financially able to "treat" yourself with a FIM toy, but if your wife was being selfish and one-sided about this, then maybe you two should look into potentially deeper problems in regards to what you expect from you marriage. I do not know your overall relationship, but if this happens to be a common occurrence with other aspects of your relationship, then something is wrong.

I don't mean to point something like that out for something so "benign" as an MLP toy, but it can show deeper problems within your relationship because this problem really is such a small thing that it should never have been a problem to begin with.

I am not a marriage counselor or anything, but I have seen the same pattern of failing relationships way too much to not say anything. It always starts small....and selfishness is the downfall to EVERY failed/failing relationship.

I thought I was the only one! I've got exactly the same problem as you! My girlfriend thinks I'm too immature and so doesn't allow me to bring any pony merch to her house!
