Most relatable characters?

  • Fluttershy. This part of me isn't nearly as strong as it was 10 years ago. When I was a little kid, I was the "shy kid." I was quiet, and I always tried my best to please other people. I avoided confrontations. I'm not as much like her as I used to be, but I have definitely retained certain parts of her personality. I enjoy animals. I'd go crazy without a Pet. I'm not as "nice" as I once was, but I still try my best.

Twilight Sparkle. Her attitude is similar to mine in a lot of ways. It's hard to explain, and I don't really have examples but there are a lot of times when she's talking or reacting to something and I can think "Yeah, I'm like that too." Twilight has had a lot of awkward moments that I can relate to.

Rainbow Dash. She's probably the one I'm most like. I'm lazy, stubborn, and I sometimes think of myself more than others. From what I've seen Rainbow is generally the "least favorite" of the mane 6. I can relate to that. I see myself as the "least favorite" of any friend group I've ever been in. Though this is when the Fluttershy in me kicks in. I appreciate my friends. I'm glad for what I have. Also, I overuse the word awesome. I nerd out far more than I probably should.

Applejack: Family is very important to me, I know what it is like to deal with grief and to have a parent die. I had to step up and help take care of a family member in my case being my sick Dad, I overwork myself sometimes (4 work related knee injuries one semi work related knee injury). I am honest to a fault, have a strong sense of right and wrong but am not judgmental, and can often be quite stubborn.

Twilight Sparkle: She reminds me a great deal of what I was like when I was a kid especially her portrayal in season 1. I have a strong love of reading and knowledge, a bit of a nerdy side and have long struggled with socializing and making friends. During my childhood and teen years I have some OCD like tendencies such as an obsession with timing and keeping a routine though not anywhere near to her extent even at my worst. I have a crippling fear of failure and can sometimes be way to hard on myself for certain mistakes.

Dante (Clerks/Clerks II): I recently saw Clerks II again and after coming back to it after what feels like forever and maturing a bit I relate to Dante so much that it is a bit disturbing. Like Dante I often wonder "what the hell am I doing with my life?" I am 28 and where I am now is not where I envisioned myself at this age and I often get angry and depressed because of that and get down on myself because I sometimes like a pathetic failure. In my efforts to piece things back together and back toward my goals I often forget the blessings that I do have and how many opportunities I still have and can sometimes fail to see certain ones because they didn't come from places I expected them to.I see him trying to escape his crappy, dead end job while holding onto the fragile grip he has on his own sanity and know that that is exactly what I am trying do right now. I have a more positive side of me that is willing to do what it takes to get out of there and follow my dreams but it is a constant struggle between that and my cynical side.

Batman.

No superpowers, no overpowered abilities - just tons of REALLY expensive equipment.

I just saw Frozen yesterday and Elsa is very relatable to me. She was misunderstood and feared because of her powers, the people thought she was a monster when the real monster was someone nobody suspected it is also why Luna is so relatable to me. I was singled out for being different in school and my volitile temper made a lot of people terrified of me. Thankfully I have that side under control now.

Honestly this is a very VERY difficult question. I find relatable aspects to most well written characters. Here are just two.

Larry Underwood (Stephen King's The Stand) - The growth arc he goes through always felt a little like my personal trajectory from teen to post college.

Holden Caulfield (Catcher in the Rye) - Mostly the narrative version of Holden, not the story tense presentation. This sense of detached optimism felt very natural to me. Inquisitive concern for the innocent.

Brick Tamland - 'Cause I love lamp
