gaming Star Fox Discussion

Please oh please oh please oh PLEASE don't tell me I'm the only Brony on here who absolutely adores the Star Fox series.

I've faithfully followed Star Fox since I first played Star Fox 64 on the Nintendo 64 when I was just a kid. I remember those good days. If memory serves correctly, I believe '64 was a reboot of the Star Fox series, since we don't really see any of the other characters that were original in the first and cancelled second game.

A few years passed after you kicked Andross's butt and we got Star Fox Adventures, for those who don't know wasn't originally planned on being a Star Fox game at all, but a separate game of it's own called Dinosaur Planet, and I believe it was supposed to be Krystal and some other dude who were supposed to be the brother and sister main characters. It was no secret that this game heavily resembled the Legend of Zelda series, with it's similar puzzles and strategic thinking.

Not going to spoil anything for those who haven't played it, but how about that final boss? (

During Adventures, we were introduced to one of the greatest songs ever created, the Great Fox Rock.

Also, it's a common thing to notice that Falco had left the team during Adventures for reasons unknown, but Nintendo was actually kind enough to release an official comic telling a story of why Falco left the team, and what exactly happened  between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures, here's the comic if you want to read it. It was called "Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco". ^^

Again, a few years passed and we gained Star Fox Assault, which was formerly named "Star Fox Armada". In this game, Peppy grew old to where he was near retirement, so he quit flying his Arwing and let Krystal take his place, and took control as the team's adviser. The Arwings and Landmaster also got a nice new look!

Then came along Star Fox Command, a game which I despise greatly. I personally feel this game butchered the franchise and was like the Star Fox version of MLP's Gen 3.5. Although I'm not certain, I don't believe the game is canon to the series, so it shouldn't have an effect on the next Star Fox game, if that ever happens. This game poured the drama in high gear and I hated the gameplay style, but that's just me. Give me about an hour and I can beat every level with ease on 64 and Assault, but in Command, I couldn't get past the first level, even with all my experience in previous Star Fox games.

I've actually been playing Star Fox longer than I have Sonic, which is a really big thing for me to say.

Anyways, recently we got Star Fox 64 3D, which was a very nice remake of the greatest Star Fox known to man (IMO!), with amazing graphics, new gameplay modes, and...terrible voice acting.

From what I've heard, Nintendo actually recalled the cast from 64 to do new reels for 64 3D, which I can understand, but did a terrible job. I recently posted a brief few thoughts in the group on MiiVerse about the voice acting, and all I can say was I felt it was very poorly directed.

My favorite line from that game, when Fox is fighting the real Andross and switches to All Range Mode for the final time, he says "So Andross, you show your true form!", but I mean, it sounded terrible. The first time they recorded the game's voices, it was absolutely perfect, I think.

Anyways, let's hear what the fellow bros have to say! ^^

Star Fox was one of the n64 games, I would beat at least once a week. lol. I remember when I was a kid how exciting Super Smash Brothers was the first time I played it, and it was partially because I was able to play as Star Fox. It didnt get much better than that, Fox, Pikachu, Mario, Link. Star fox was the game of its kind, and no other space shooter really lived up to it for me. I feel like the "gummy ship" battles in KH were kind of like star fox re-dos lol. As somepony that loves Rare platformers, I enjoyed Star Fox adventures, but it wasnt the rage that Fox 64 was, or any of their other platofrmers such as BK & BT & DK64. I also try expolaining to people that, the sub characters in that game may be licensed to rare, and that is why we may never see Krystal in smash,

Please bring back our space furries Nintendo

As far as the games go, I'd have to say Adventures is my favorite, even though it's not a traditional Starfox game. And honestly I liked Command, despite the crappy story, I liked a few things here and there, I didn't mind the characters they added(I kinda liked Lucy) and the gameplay was fun once you got the hang of it.

I'm hoping the next game is more like Assault though, with more Arwing combat, more missions, more Landmaster, better Blue Marine and more polished on-foot combat. And less drama

But if that was the case though, she(along with other assets from Adventures) wouldn't have shown up in Assault

I have been a Star Fox fan ever since my dad bought me the first Star Fox game for the SNES, the graphics had that cool 3D effect, the sound track kicked some serious ass and complimented the fast paced action of the game.

Star Fox 64 was also pretty awesome, and while there were a couple of respectable games in the series after that it has been a long time since there has been a game in the series that has captured the original magic.

I love the Starfox series. Now that I'm thinking about it I wish they were new ones. I played Starfox 64 for years, beat the game maybe 30 times, most of those on the hard route to the true ending.

Then I got Adventures and the series was never the same again. I loved everything about that game. The gameplay, the story, the romance, the music...everything was amazing.

Then Assault came around. I liked Assault well enough but I didn't particularly like the fact that literally every level was just a bunch of giant arena fights. I wish they had more linear levels, more direction.

I learned to like it a lot more after I tried to go for the Silver Medals though. The gameplay is obviously meant for pulling out as many points as possible.

I've yet to play the original Starfox and Command. Both are on my list of games to get eventually as a fan of the series.

I just hope that when they bring the series back that they don't just do the space fighter stuff. It's cool and all but I liked the on-foot stuff from Adventures and Assault and really think they could mix those together again and improve the system.

I personally need to play more Star Fox games but Star Fox Adventures is one of my favorite games ever (and my personal favorite in the series). Everything about it was great and fantastic to me. I actually rather prefer the land-walking stuff more than the actual flying parts but that's just me. I've also played Command and Assault and they were both okay, I should really play more of them though. One of the main reasons why I enjoy the Star Fox games is the same as why I enjoy the Sonic games; great character designs.

I never thought of it that way, but I hope you remember the secret taunts from the Corneria Melee stage in Brawl. ^^

Sounds more like 64 to me, considering Assault was a little dramatic and the Blue Marine only appeared in 64. ^^

Well Peppy, Falco, Fox, Slippy & Wolf if you remember Star Fox 64, were all licensed to the original nintendo. When rare had bought their limited rights to Star Fox at the end of their Nintendo career, Krystal was one of the characters they had created, the others existed prior, and now Rare belongs to Microsoft.

Star Fox on the Xbox One, woot woot! I was talking about Krystal appearing in Brawl.

I've played most of the Star Fox games save for the original and Command. Not the greatest games in the world I'd say, but they were pretty fun at the time that I played them.

I find the Star Fox characters to be pretty fun to play as in Smash Bros. though, at any rate. :P

So you haven't played the original Star Fox and Command? Or am I not understanding you correctly? ^^" (Didn't really understand how you used save)

Also, I strongly agree. Fox has got nothing but better in the Smash games, and he looks good in the new one. I never used Falco or Wolf much, but I do know everything Wolf is supposed to be stronger than Fox, including his OP'd recolored Landmaster, and Falco is just slower, I never liked how he used his shield. ^^"

  • 3 weeks later...

I grew with SF64. No matter how many times I played it, how many times I flew the same planets over and over and over, since I was small (And even still now), I totally praise how SF64 allows you to build your own travel route. I might be fully wrong, and several games came with that concept way before SF64, but I firmly believe SF64 was one of the first games that imposed minimal choice/performance differences to affect your gameplay long-term (Short-Term at least in here). You know, like on Mass-Effect series where you choose to be either good or bad? That kind of thing...

Sadly, I couldn't get  Adventures (No $$$), but thank god, I would feel it would be such a radical change of playstyle I loved on 64. Then I got assault. Even Assault is more closely-related on 64 than Adventures, yet I still felt it...   odd. Maps were bigger, yes. They were prettier and stuff. But the variety is what I praise so much on the 64. When I figured out Assault was purely linear, it killed it for me.There were several other factors ('Cruise' mode on the arwing so fixed for GB technology. No maps that were mixed Cruise+All-Range Mode like on SF64, no warp zones, etc) that made me feel Assault being somewhat odd. At least the Multiplayer was richer and more versatile than the 64 one.

Then I missed Command (No DS).

Then I heard 64 3DS. No 3DS. But it was virtually the same game as on the 64, so no big loss.

Nintendo is really concerned the StarFox saga has not been so profitable as the 64 version, and are considering (or already considered. I hope not...) to abandon the SF saga and focus on another ones. I truly, truly, truly, truly, truly hope Nintendo (Or Rare???) manages to get another StarFox working. I am perfectly sure if they made it as versatile as the 64 one (With a variety of worlds/path to choose and such), I'm pretty sure it will go well. Oh well, I guess it's just about to cross fingers, and hope for the best at this point...

PD: Assault Landmaster is kinda ugly to me. Prefer the 64 one aesthetically.

First off, you dodged a bullet by not playing Command. Easily the worst game in Star Fox period.

I would recommend never playing Command, as it takes away what we know and love from Star Fox so much, you wouldn't believe it.

Also, the 3DS version isn't exactly the same game. Well, it is, it's just been heavily remastered.

First off, the original VAs came back, and re-recorded every line, and even added new ones!

(Personally, I feel the voice acting was a little sloppy, totally could have used better directing)

Second, the Landmaster has been redesigned, but not to fear! It looks amazing, being totally honest here.

A few more things they've added: Battle Mode, Stage Select, Score Attack, and they've replaced the VS stages from Katrina, Corneria and Sector Z to Venom, Macbeth, Corneria City (much like the level from Assault!), and Meteo!

On Battle Mode, you can wirelessly battle friends, or battle the AI, which are really OP'd. It truly gives you a test of your skills!

Score Attack is basically Stage Select, but you can shoot for the top score and earn 3 different kinds of medals, depending on your high score.

What I can remember right off, Corneria's gold medal is 190 hits, which is pretty easy, and Venom 1 is 180 for the gold medal.

The 3DS version isn't exactly the same game as the N64 version, it's completely upgraded and remastered! :)

I was an intermediate fan of star fox; I played 2 games of starfox (64 and assault), but I liked to play them often.

Sooo anyone else find it hypocritical that fox always has to save his friends when in danger, but all the help /he/ gets when he's in trouble is "do a barrel roll!" (It's actually an aileron roll!)? Maybe we should just be douchebags and let them fall >=D!!

Awesome, both are very good games in the series!

Well, it should actually be expected. Although Falco is the team's "Ace Pilot", Fox is the leader of the team, which makes him more than capable to handle things on his own. Also, as Leader, he has the golden responsibility of making sure that his teammates are safe and out of harm's way.

On top of that, if they have to leave battle, you don't get the medal.

However, as I have seen all the endings to Command (what a terrible game), Falco is a very good friend to Fox. However, I can't remember where, but I think Slippy is actually Fox's 'best friend'.

I'm gonna take a wild guess, but I realy hope they announce a new game at E3

How is that a guess? It would be more than nice to see Star Fox at E3 this year, I don't think we actually have since Armada Assault was announced. Remember that trailer? I can almost guarantee they rehired Tricky's VA from Adventures to play as Fox in the trailer, it sounds almost exactly like him.
