I stated that three times but alright..

Not until I pressed the issue.

This is probably going to seem typical and I pretty much don't care. I've always been highly open-minded and have defended this fandom in the past but at this point, I think it's time I about gave up. Why does everybody take this show so seriously? It seems every time something a bit upsetting happens, it's all over the internet and sometimes even on the news. Do you not see how ridiculous this is? Of course not because you're bronies.    I understand fandom and popularity but a 90 page statistical report on freaking bronies? and a 2 hour documentary? Then we get our own con - fine, that's great but there's a limit to this insanity. People are actually worshiping this show and wanting to make a pony religion. This is where I draw the line. This is proof of people seriously needing to be cut off from technology and getting lives. Of course there are several creepers who think they're married to ponies and go around threatening people about it, just of course.   Doesn't help the brony image any that about 90% of them are desperate men, yearning for female attention. As seen with Bronysquare, how most of the community there are men who flirt with every women they see and think they're entitled to sex because they're "SUCH NICE GUYS" but women are bitches for turning them down and having different opinions, right? Then seen again with this site with it's "Special somepony" threads and such. Want more evidence? There is a brony dating site.    It doesn't stop there either, there are plushies made specifically for boning the ponies and there are MLP fleshlights. This means that there are enough people out there who demand these products and they are selling well enough for them to continue to be sold. It's not just a matter of clopping to your pony porn that floods the internet anymore.   Speaking of which, why do we have our own terms for things? We're not just the MLP fanbase, we're bronies. We don't masturbate, we clop. [Or, you do.] We also need specific gender nouns to refer to ourselves, such as pegasister and then some people wanted to make an equivalent for tomboy and femboy.    It's clear bronies don't understand copyright either because otherwise, they wouldn't be making such a big deal out of things being taken down. I'm sick of explaining this, I really, really am. If Hasboro were such a big, evil company wanting money as you say, why do you think they would remove something promoting them? That's right, obviously they had no choice or they'd lose their license to MLP permanently and we'd have no more FIM. However, I think that's what you guys want, as you send them death threats all the time. They have plenty of money to afford to just cancel the show.    Then there's the whole social justice that bronies keep bringing up, how it's changing how the world views gender roles and such. Yeah, maybe it is but why does that mean people can't think you're a piece of crap fandom? You guys have your own social justice warrior bull going on and get irrationally mad at haters. Most people who don't like bronies or MLP are hated by bronies, it's very evidential with all the hater threads on this forum.    Furthermore, I have to view the newest MLP episodes the day it comes out or else I'll be bombarded with spoilers, so that's fun. Also, the fact that everybody hates the other gens is annoying. *Rolls eyes* I'm sure this'll just be locked and I'll be hated or banned for it. That would be the typical brony response. Bring on the memes, poorly constructed potshots, and video games references.    //Not sure where to post this, will just put it in general discussion, since I regular here.//

I love you so much. These are exactly my thoughts. (Also, i think this should go in Sugarcube Corner, but the mods will move it there so w/e)

Listen, I get that our fandom is far from perfect, but sitting there and generalizing the entire fandom based off of the actions of a select portion of the community isn't fair. I don't want to come off as a broken record here but, a lot of what others have already mentioned is true, every fandom is going to have people that act in this manner it is a unfortunate part of a fandoms growth. Over my time I have been through many fandom's(I'm even a advent gamer) so I have seen people act in very bizarre and disgusting ways. If you truly believe this fandom is the worst, then all I have to say is that you clearly didn't frequent many fandoms...or atleast not enough to actually run into the bad side of them. I have ran into some very nasty people, with in the gaming community, people that will hack you and take everything you own just because you stole their ''sniper rifle'' or because you killed them in a game of Call of Duty. I have seen death threats sent to developers over patches they made to the game, I have even seen people kill others just for a copy of Cod or Madden, because they are to cheap to pay for those games themselves. That is but one example of how bad a fandom could be and even with all this I don't view every gamer as some form of psychopath waiting to explode, I understand that the fandom isn't perfect and except it for what it is rather than what I want it to be.

No it's not, it only talks of people getting pissy about getting rejected, and doesn't elaborate in further.

Listen, just realize that while those people in your initial post do exist, it's not a majority of fandom. In fact the stuff you listed off has been by far the minority in my experience. The fandom has its quirks, but generalizing doesn't help your point. I don't think you're a hater, you seem nice enough, but I think you're misinformed about the topic at hand (though I do concede that a documentary may have been a bit much).

Yup.

Ah, thank you.. yeah, I'm aware it was wrong to direct this at the entire fandom. It should have only been directed at rabid bronies because that's who I was referring to. I know there are plenty of good bronies out there.

Like you just said, there are plenty of good bronies, 100% of my friends are...really friends, I have only met 1 in the past that you described, and this is not a "brony dating site" This is a place to get together, and RP like I am doing, or just talk and debate and whatnot

Wow that was harsh, judging by your later statements you have cooled down a bit but there were some fair points despite the unnecessarily harsh tone and here is what they are.

People taking the show too seriously: yes, this annoys me there are plenty of them who do this but that is the nature of fandoms in general there are always going to be some people that do this. But what annoys me far more is people who treat the fandom like a religion by trying to shove arbitrary standards on what a brony supposedly should and shouldn't be. A good example of this is how a lot of people demonize and scapegoat the "dark" side of the fandom for "making us look bad". And there are people that have used "love and tolerate" as a weapon to demonize anyone they disagree with. A lot of pro twilicorns responded to criticisms of it by calling all critics "haters" for example and of course to be fair some of them did take things a bit far but to dismiss any and all criticism like that is not helpful.

Obsessive fans: A problem in pretty much every fandom ever especially the Star Wars and Star Trek fandoms. You want to see some obsessive and crazy fans than check those fandoms out and then we will talk. That is not to say there aren't bronies who do need to take a step back and do a few other things with their lives as I am disturbed at how many wish they were in Equestria but you did exaggerate as to how many represent the fandom.

Arrogant fans: Yep, there are people who honestly think that they are bronies mean they are the second coming of Jesus and they may be annoying but the best response to them is to laugh at them and move on.

There are a few things where you do miss the point though.

90% of them are desperate men, yearning for female attention

First you have to consider that a lot of bronies are teenagers and teenage boys are really freaking horny, trust me I used to be a teenage boy and I may still be a horny bastard but I thank god that I am no longer a slave to that. It dosen't excuse things like sexual harassment of feelings of entitlement which I am sure does happen but it is extremely unfair to say that 90% are only interested in getting a girls pants.

There is a brony dating site

And what is wrong with that? There are dating sites for all kinds of things, not just bronies you name something and there is a dating website for it. It only becomes a problem in cases where people are only willing to date bronies but I don't think that is the case for most of them. I think it is a matter of finding someone who has common interests which is understandable.

We don't masturbate, we clop

I will never understand why so many fans are so obsessed with what people jerk off to, I have been in many fandoms and this is the only fandom where I have seen this. I understand people not being into it but the only difference between cloppers and other bronies is what they decide to do in private which is nobodies business. As for the fleshlights I have seen way stranger shit than that in various other fandoms, trust me have you ever seen futa or tentacle porn? Or how about vore, or guro?

It's clear bronies don't understand copyright either

90% of the population of this planet don't, copyright law is extremely complicated and most people don't know that the law is to blame in those cases and not Hasbro.

I have to be honest here.  You can literally replace the word 'brony' with any other fanbase in the book and this could easily apply to it.  Don't get me wrong.  I agree with you to some degree (though you made it sound far more widespread than it is).  But this happens with every fanbase out there.  If you worry about every individual in a fandom you like, you will end up pulling all your hair out.

But for what it's worth, welcome to the world of Internet fandoms.

You know, it occurs to me that, considering how huge and diverse most fandoms are, it really makes no sense to judge an entire fandom as one group.  I think the best you could do is judge individual communities.  Just because a brony dating site is full of awkward weirdos and stalkers doesn't mean every *other* brony community is like that.

It does to quite a lot of anti-bronies.
