MLP Forums "Best" Awards

I wanted to know if I could do this in the Evertree Forest: Where people could vote for who they think is the best of something. For example, best artist >Vexed >marco23p >etc. And then I could show the results for who won, and if I could do this every month. Thanks very much!

I see a similar thing being done over at Simtropolis (and coincidentally, they're called the Golden Llama Awards, or Trixies), and these things are done yearly.

 

I personally think yearly may be better, because more stuff can happen between more and then, and that gives more to judge.

This could be a fun yearly thing to do (or 6 month thing to do) but like all awards contests, it'll come down to popularity and could cause hard feelings and arguments and negative vibes. If nominating and voting can be done anonymously and privately, then it could be cool. Basically making it all behind-the-scenes so there's no stage for arguments/hard feelings to be brought up.

The problem is contests would turn into popularity contests and may develop hard feelings between members. Unless it can be done anonymously then it may not work out well.

 

Oh, and only if I get voted in as best Lady.

Eh... in my experience, awards have a tendency of causing all sorts of hard feelings/jealousy. And since these forums have quite a few younger members, who tend to take more stock in this sort of thing, it could cause some issues. It would also probably be a matter of who's most well-known, rather than who actually IS the best at things.

 

But who knows? Perhaps these forums are mature enough to handle "best" awards. Maybe it could be handled as Fizzle suggested. It certainly would be interesting.

I may be biased (Seeing how I am top poster /)^3^(), but I have mixed feelings about it.

 

On one hand, it will give the people who work hard on something recognition.

 

on the other, it can raise jealousy.

 

So it really comes down to Feld0's opinion on the matter.

Yeah, what does "Best" mean? You can't evaluate art objectively so it all comes down to Favorite Artist/Favorite Character/Style etc...

I don't think I'll end up winning any awards this year (assuming we are doing this anytime soon) since I haven't made anything aside from 1 short story (which isn't even Pony based ).

It takes me forever to come to a final answer so I'm gonna type my thoughts!

 

It might be good, because it sounds like a fun idea, we should make different things to run for, and it'll all be in the game, and I think the forums can handle it, if we can't we simply cancel it or stop doing it, as for best artist, writer, etc. they can summit things, that way they all have a chance in winning, and if we get into the sort of thing were arguments start I think they can settle it nicely and hopefully stop it from becoming something that'll end bad, so how 'bout we try it once he how it goes and if it goes the way we wan't it to then we can make it Official

 

...but I'm just Berryzoid/Pinkazoid, and it's up to Feld0 to yay or neigh the idea

Its not about popularity, its about their skill or such. Plus I don't know anypony on these forums who is mean to others. Other catagories such as Best Couple, Best Friends, Best Moderator. These wouldn't be popularity, but by actions. Let me know other options if you have better catagories. Thanks, Dragonshy

Well, nobody said it WOULD be about popularity. But people would probably make it that way. As it's natural to notice what is most well known and give it recognition rather than give recognition to things that actually deserve them but fewer people know about them. Younger people have a tendency to do this decidedly moreso, which would make the awards biased. It could be handled correctly, but one would have to be careful.

Even if it's not meant to be about popularity, that's what it would inevitably turn into...a popularity contest.

 

Whoever the most popular person is, is likely gonna receive the most votes.

 

Just my view on the subject...If you all think it could work then go ahead and give it a shot.
