Now when you clicked on this thread I bet most of you were thinking that I am admitting that I'm a clopper on here.

Well that is true, but I've already made that clear.

 

This thread is about my other fansination.

A darker one.

A very unpopular and hated fansination within this community.

It is grimdark.

Now MANY grimdark fics are poorly written.

And the storylines suck.

Some of them though such as Cupcakes (my personal favorite) is quite entertaining.

I do not express gridmark art on these forums though.

Last time I did I got 250 warning points.

 

Some of you are already thinking "What sick person likes this sort of stuff?"

Well cloppers seem to be excepted within this community.

Why not people of darker fascinations?

I've was almost at one point rejected by the Brony community for my dark interests.

So I'm just trying to make this clear about this certain fascination I've been having lately with grimdark.

 Although, honestly I prefer dark horror stories that have a happy ending. It's cliché but they make me feel better.

 The only reason cupcakes is "offensive" to me, is because of the lack of any kind of logic. Someone please tell me how Pinkie was capable of murdering all those ponies in the basement of a seemingly very popular public establishment. without anypony noticing. Especially considering the Cakes live there.

I am not a fan of the grimdark works like Cupcakes,Smile,or Rainbow Factory, as I'm too empathetic to dead ponies and Gore, but the actual art of it fascinates me.

Most GrimDark is very, very,very poorly written, and focuses on the description of the gore, or depraved sexual act rather than the why and how. So if it is properly written, and is more than goreporn, then I can enjoy a dark story.

All gritty gore aside, it was an amazingly well done piece of flash animation.

I enjoy Cupcakes and Grimdark. In fact, I enjoy many dark things. They don't really effect my view of the show. Most of the time.

I'm completely fine with grimdark, but it's not..gory enough.

 

Cartoon violence with pastel coloured ponies just seems a bit silly to me. 

 

My fascination leads me to a couple dark subreddits, both of which are NSFL.

 

Gore mixed with ponies just seems like someone's trying too hard.

Grimdark? Meh, I'm into some stuff that makes MLP grimdark seem mild (if "Vincit Omnia Veritas" and flip flops mean anything to you, you know what I mean...). I like grimdark in theory, but I don't like reading fanfic because the writing is often more painful than the acts described I'm a picky arsehole reader. Dark art and videos are usually enjoyable, and I would gladly read written work if there was some sort of assurance regarding the quality.

You know what offends me?  People who unfairly judge and hate others.  You know what doesn't offend me?  Pretty much everything else.  My policy has always been that if you're not hurting anyone else, then it's fine by me.  This is the first I've heard of grimdark.  I watched the example youtube vids on this thread, and I cracked up.  It's funny.  So what?  I don't care.  I'm not offended.  Of course I wouldn't want the actual show to be corrupted like that, but stuff like this doesn't offend me.

 

Now, the tricky part, which some folks already pointed out, is when kids are exposed to such things.  Grimdark is fine if it stay where it belongs, out of reach of children.  But that's the tricky part when it comes to the internet.  It's impossible to completely prevent such things from falling into the wrong hands.  It's the internet.  It's chaos theory.  Everything is corruptible.  Nothing is safe.  It sucks, but that's just the reality.  It has to come down to parental responsibility to filter out that good from the inappropriate.  Again, it sucks, I know.  But that's the age we live in.  When I was a kid, it was just "don't take candy from strangers."  It's a different world now.  I could go on for ages, I'm gonna stop now.

 

But to reiterate my intial point, I'm not offended by something like grimdark in and of itself.  You're not hurting anyone by watching it, so what's the big deal?  Don't worry, OP, I don't hate you.
