The Tyranny of Princess Cadence

 

(Thanks all for your patience with this issue, we seem to have had some issues with this post, apparently. The entirety of the text dropped into code for some unknown reason after editing members, so I had to literally delete and re-type EVERYTHING.)

(Also the Dice and stat system doesn't suit this RP, i've not asked about scrapping it, because I really don't imagine it being missed by anyone.)

 

The story begins in the Crystal Empire, following the defeat of the returned King Sombra. Something has caused Princess Cadence to go off the rails, abandoning reason for madness and reign misery over her empire. The residents of the Crystal Empire, the crystal ponies, have been forced to submit to this sudden change in Cadence's temperament. Some speculate that her sudden madness is because of the unusual absence of her husband, Shining Armour, while others are claiming that the princess herself has caused his disappearance; nopony knows for sure, but the one thing they do know is that Cadence has lost her mind, and through simple fear of her actions are they kept in line. Somepony has to stop her.

 

This is where our story begins, and you will shape the outcome of the events that are about to unfold. All communications from the Crystal Empire to Canterlot have ceased, messages and messengers have been sent out only to not return, the train that ran on a daily basis has not been seen for weeks and as such all trade and commerce has all but evaporated. 

The royal sisters have grown worried and short of visiting themselves, they are doing the last option they have available to them.

They are sending their most elite soldiers to find out just what the hay is going on, and put a stop to it if necessary. 

 

In this RP there will be 3 teams.

 

Canterlot - The Royal Princess' faction

Celestia's hoof-picked hardened military, these ponies each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but Celestia's trust and guidance will lead them along their way. They have no need for an army, their small numbers, rigorous training and elite skills more than sufficient for their previous assigned tasks - and now they are all together for the first time, their job is to find out what is happening in the Crystal Empire and to put a stop to it in the best means possible.

The Crystal Empire Loyalists - Princess Cadence's faction

The Crystal Empire was not without its military, having fallen once before to King Sombra, under Cadence's reign their forces have been bolstered and their training doubled. These are the commanders of Cadence's army, their job is to defend their princess until death, either through fanaticism or through fear of a worse fate.

The Crystal Empire Rebellion - Strong, independent ponies who don't need no leader!

These are the ponies who have had enough of Cadence's tyranny, the ones who have been hit hardest by her greed and warmongering, they are doing what they can to overthrow her as ruler of the Empire, but overall they just want to survive. However, Cadence's recent discovery of unusual activity around her empire has her growing suspicious, and that may prove even more difficult than they had first counted on...

The rules of the RP are as follows:

1) No alicorns

2) Ponies and Zebras only.

3) No making up major plot-points without talking to the DM's first (myself and Pripyat Pony)

4) The princess' will be controlled by the DM's ONLY.

5) No guns or battle saddles, no ranged weapons of any type aside from unicorn magic.

 

Applications for the RP should satisfy the following conditions:

A link to a previous RP you have been a part of, unless I have RP'd with you before. 

A link to your characters OC page. 

What faction your character wants to be a part of, and why?

 

The Deus-ex machina soldiers of the three factions

 

 

The following spoilers contain each other "deus ex machina" troops for each force. 

These forces are to be used ONLY by their assigned player and ONLY in instances where a full player interaction is not necessary in order to further the plot along. 

 

The Sanctum of the Sun

 

 

These are princess Celestia's personal guards. While few in number, they remain the same guards they have been throughout all of Celestia's rule, granted nigh-immortality by the powerful magics of Starswhirl the Bearded, their ageing process is delayed almost infinitely, causing them to remain in their prime-youth forever. Their preferred attack method is to bombard the enemy with precise and deadly energy bolts of pure power, drawing energy from the sun itself to lethal effect. Though they prefer to stay at range and finish fights before they can begin, they are skilled combatants in both armed and unarmed combat, able to take on insurmountable odds and come out victorious. 

They wear little armour, save for a magic-amplifying helmet and a cloak to protect their coats from the environments.

The Crystal Onyx

 

 

Cadence's recruited guard, she pulled them from their families and broke their minds, sending them deep into madness before casting her love spell on each and every one of them, forcing them into eternal servitude to her until their death. They train tirelessly day in and day out, seemingly never needing to rest.

Their preferred method of attack is that of intimidation and lethality of arms. They will charge head first at their target, taking any defensive attacks head-on and deflecting magical strikes with their own counter magics, before blinking behind them and cutting them down without mercy. They are not as skilled as their counterparts in hoof-to-hoof combat, armed or unarmed, but their armour more than makes up for that shortcoming. 

They are clad from head to hoof in crystal-infused, onyx coloured indestructible armour; their exposed sections being hidden behind a mesh of magically weaved chain mail, and their face covered by an impenetrable magical "bubble." This armour has earned them the title amongst the Empire as the "Black Death."

The Shadows of Doubt

 

 

The ponies who have had enough of Cadence's reign where not strictly all from her own empire. 

Sometimes smugglers would get into the city - how? No one knows, but they're there. After seeing what Cadence has become and how she is neglecting her subjects, making their lives a misery, sometimes these smugglers decide it's time to be something more. 

Specialised in what they do, these ponies are devious, cunning tricksters who use foul magics to move around the city and gather information. While their strong-suit is smuggling material goods in and out of the city, some of them have taken to listening in on some of Cadence's guards to piece together bits about her overall plan and see how they can assist the reclamation of the city. None have been able to infiltrate the palace itself yet, but it's only a matter of time before they are presented with an opportunity...

They wear little to no armour, nothing more than a leather jerkin and straps to defend against a stray blade in combat - although they prefer to avoid combat outright at all times, often turning into nothing but shadows and vanishing in plain sight at the sign of danger, their sneaking and deception is second to none. 

 

Max forces - 8

Assigned player - each player will be able to control two "personalised" shadows, meaning you will be able to characterise them to a reasonable extent.

@@Agent505 More of a support mage, staying behind the ranks and providing cover with her light magic. It says in the rules no ramged weapons. I am sunsure whether this extended to magic beams.

Hm, I suppose that is a little contradictory, I'll make that a little more clearer so thanks for pointing it out.

You're more than welcome to use your magical abilities as ranged weapons, there are just no actual ranged weapons allowed. 

As a support mage, you'll be getting your +1 to spell strength as a class bonus, but I would like to ask that you limit your usage of magic to the provided spells in the list, this prevents any particular ponies from having an unfair advantage over the others. 

 

If you're on your phone, I assume you'll want to wait before posting your statistic changes and abilities.

HP: 2 (I'm assuming "normal rounding rules" are if it isn't above .5 round it down, right? It comes out to "2.3333" so I rounded down to 2.)

She'll be a support mage, her selected spells will be:

 

Dsitraction Spell 1 & 2, and Mass Distraction.

 

Her non-combat spells will be both Interrogation spells.

I'll apply with Silver Heart, whose link is also in my sig, for Cadence's team as a medic.

....It seems as if, Silver Heart drew the short straw on the fighting and health stats.....

I put forth both characters because I'm having trouble deciding which one I want to play. I'll leave the choice up to you but if you don't want to decide then....I'll flip a coin or do some other random way to decide. Let me know if I didn't fill something out correctly.

Honestly, I think when @@Alex Kennedy, and @@00Pony join we should be good to go, that'll probably give us 3 members per team and we can leave it open to joining as we're RP'ing. 

That is, provided we all have complete character cards...*cough*

The princess' military is going to be travelling to the empire for a while, so they're bound to meet someponies on the way, and even if we don't get a member for the rebellion, they can start their plans at any time...

 

Actually, i'm going to start typing up a copy of the opening paragraph, i'm rather eager to get things going.

He’ll most likely be a reluctant recruit for the Empire, although his time away from Equestria and lack of knowledge on new events (basically anything that’s taken place during the course of the show, including Nightmare Moon’s return) could make him perhaps easier to convert…

Everything seems to check out for me, i'd like a reason as to why he's in the faction he's in but it's not necessarily a big deal. 

I like his character, makes sense for him to be a good fighter being in Celestia's hoof-picked squad - welcome aboard Alex, happy to have you in another RP again.

However I do like the changes you've made to Arrow since the last time I saw him - no more time-travelling backstory I see, and he looks to have undergone a personality transplant.

I suppose I had better accept you on the principle that you'll either break up with me or set Phe on me if I don't. I know you're busy, so I don't expect you to post immediately.

Yep, if you don't accept me then we're over forever and I'll never want to see you again. Sic him Phoenix!

(Really though, if you're worried Arrow coming in late might mess up the flow of the RP, I don't mind waiting to join another RP next week instead - I wouldn't want to be responsible for Tyranny needing a 4th reboot, heh.)
