I got my first guitar the other day, however it is for my birthday. But I don't know if it is good or what any of the features do. The man at the store said it is really good for beginners and went into a whole load of things it has.

It is a Epiphone Les Paul Special II. I know they are pretty much cheaper made gibsons that aren't as good.

If I post the specs I don't understand could someone please tell me what they do. I have googled some of them, but still don't really get it.

SPECIFICATIONS

Neck Pickup Epiphone 650R Humbucker

Bridge Pickup Epiphone 700T Humbucker

Pickup Selector 3-wayEpiphone toggle

Bridge LockTone™ Tune-o-matic

Tailpiece LockTone™ Stopbar

Thanks to anyone who helps me here.

For a beginner guitar, that might even be a bit too good :D You've got all of the fancy stuff, yes, but when starting out, I've always heard you're supposed to start out with a more basic package.

Of course, it doesn't mean you can't learn with a rig like this - whether Epiphone or Gibson itself, Les Paul's are like golden chalices in the guitar world.

You should post a picture, Brech :D

They said its a beginners guitar, it was really cheap too. So I guess I just got lucky.
Shit quality, but look, my collection as well.

That's pretty good for a beginners guitar, it's certainly a lot better than my first guitar, although I've bought a few more since then! XD

As for the specifications

The, Neck Pickup Epiphone 650R Humbucker and the Bridge Pickup Epiphone 700T Humbucker are the pickups for the guitar. The neck pickup being the one closest to the neck/fretboard and the bridge pickup is the one closest to the bridge. Generally the neck pickup will give you a warmer nasally tone and the bridge pickup will give you a brighter tone.

The 3 way pickup selector is the switch that you use to change what pickups are currently picking up sound. When it is flicked to the rhythm setting it will be picking up noise from the neck pickup  and when it is on the treble setting it will be picking up sound from the bridge pickup. Finally when its in the middle setting both the neck and bridge pickups will pick up sound.

The LockTone™ Tune-o-matic is the guitars bridge which is the metal bar which the strings rest over. It is located towards the bottom of the guitar and there are generally little notches for the strings to rest in. The bridge can change the height of the strings from the fretboard which can change the tonality and playabilty of the guitar. I'd recommend against fiddling with that at this stage though as you can make problems for yourself if you are not sure on what you are doing.

Finally the LockTone™ Stopbar is the tail piece and if I'm correct I believe this is where the little balls on the end of the guitar string will kind of lock in when you thread the string through the back when restringing the guitar.

I hope that helped in some way and congrats on the new guitar!

Alos feel free to PM me if you need help with anything guitar related :D

Yeah, that looks miles better than my first guitar (it was a Dean EVO S3 modded with a DiMarzio Air Norton at the bridge - RIP!). Having a good guitar is great motivation to improve - I hope you'll stick with it! :)

@@Shred Guitar Brony, Thanks, that's made it easier for me to understand now. They coulda just told me that in the first place when I got it.

@@ponypowa96, I'm gonna stick with it for a while.

My friend suggested that my next guitar (if I get another one eventually) should be a Fender Stratocaster.

That is actually really good for a beginner guitar. It has the same type of pickups as my Epiphone SG Special.

My friend suggested that my next guitar (if I get another one eventually) should be a Fender Stratocaster.

It honestly just depends on your budget, your playstyle and some personal preferences. I've personally never liked Fender Stratocasters and can't see the appeal other than their vintage vibe. I currently have an Ibanez Xiphos, a PRS SE Custom 24, and a Mayones Regius 6, and I love all of them. The Xiphos was something I bought when I was more into metal/shred, and now I've kind of matured away from wanting to focus purely on speed (the style I prefer now is more like that of this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yPEewaalik ).

Both the PRS and Mayones guitars are absolutely beautiful and I would recommend them to anybody.

But as I said it's all down to personal preference and you certainly shouldn't take just one person's word for it, the best thing to do is go to your nearest guitar shop and try a bunch of them out. And your guitar is far more than adequate for a beginner, I doubt you'll need an upgrade any time soon, it looks awesome. :)
