Well, looks like Microsoft finally sorted it's ass from it's elbow and realized that everypony, zebra, goat, donkey, minotaur, dragon, and human hates the Kinect.  The sheep love it, though.

It's also $100 cheaper, so...after the PS4's coming price cut it will still be charging more for less.

Well, you can't have everything.

It's not exactly charging more for less is it.

You still get the console, controller, headset, and wires. I'm pretty sure thats what you get with the ps4.

Don't remember being a sheep, thought I was human.

I was a little excited to hear they realized their mistake and are going to offer it without the kinect. But what about people like me that were willing to give Microsoft a chance and bought one when they first came out? Are we going to get something for supporting them? Lol nope. They claim Xbox is better and will be developed with kinect in mind. Then why are you offering the xbox without it? The only thing good about kinect is the voice command feature. I'm lazy so not having to push a couple buttons works for me.

A lot of Xbox fans see this as Microsoft throwing in the towel, and I have to agree. They flat-out said that they would never release the Xbox One without the Kinect, as it was a "vital" component of the console's experience. After the disaster that was E3, they abandoned most of their original ideas after the outcry (although most Xbox fans were fine with the changes). This is the final nail in the coffin.

I don't have a next gen console yet due to lack of funds, but I have been seriously considering getting an Xbox One over a PS4 down the line. But this changes my mind. It shows that Microsoft has no faith in the Kinect, and will likely abandon support for it for the most part since it isn't a primary selling point anymore. Now the Xbox One is just an after thought to me and many others. Both consoles are now practically identical. In my opinion, this is very bad news for console gamers.

Relevant post from around E3 2013,

I recently got Watch Dogs.

It's a good thing that the Playstation 4 is going to be getting a price cut (maybe?) So I can buy a system to play a game that I don't own the system for yet.

Now I just have to wait until the Kintect-less Xbox One gets another price cut, than I might consider the purchase.

Right now, I'm good with my PS4 for next gen.

I've heard people say that this will be the final gen of true consoles. To be honest, I believe it. It's already begun with the Xbox. It's not so much a gaming console as an entertainment hub. Games, music, tv, movies, and photos all go through it. There also used to be a reason you bought a console: so you can cut the bullshit of a PC and hop right into the game. Sure the graphics and content will suffer a bit, but we'll put up with that to have an easier gaming experience. Well that used to be the case. I bought the new Wolfenstein the other day and it took almost an hour to load to the point where it was playable. Care to guess how long the update needed a few days later? 2 HOURS!!!! 2 HOURS UNTIL IT WAS PLAYABLE! THAT MEANS IT STILL WASN'T DONE YET!!! CANTERLOCK!

Technically, the chips in the PS4 store more data and process that data faster.  Judging by the chips in the Xbox One, $350 is a much more fare price for it without the Kinect.

What?  First of all, this is Microsoft admitting that the customer is number 1.  Not forcing tech on us that we don't want.  If the Kinect were so awesome, they wouldn't need to force it on us.

As for the Xbox brand being to similar to the Playstation brand: welcome to Earth.  Microsoft has been struggling for the last few years to stay relevant.  All the Xbox One has to offer is being a more expensive and less efficient copycat of it's competitors.  Look at the game they released to compete with Mario Kart of all things:

Nice work, morons.  To bad you can buy a Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Wii Sports Resort, and get a free download for less than the Xbox One and that game.

I'm really expecting Microsoft to go downhill from here.

I've heard people say that this will be the final gen of true consoles.

Sony and Microsoft have gotten used to releasing consoles every seven years.  They are not about to quit drawing money from that.  They also intentially gimped their consoles not to be able to put out native 1080p at 60 fps.  This is to give themselves a thinly veiled excuse to make another console later.

That's not the point. Whether the Kinect or Xbox One is good or not is entirely irrelevant. As I said, the Kinect was a huge selling point for the Xbox One, and it was advertised as a "vital" part of the Xbox experience. They claimed that they would never sell a model of the Xbox One without the Kinect. Early adapters to the console feel cheated because they were lied to. Less Kinects = less support for the Kinect = angry fan base who expected more.

I recently bought an xbox one, Titanfall and Watch Dogs and I don't regret anything. I don't care that the PS4 looks slightly better but you can only tell if you put them side by side. All that matters to me is the controller and the games. For me, Xbox has both. I bought the Xbox with kinect because the difference between the xbox one without kinect and the xbox one with kinect (plus Titanfall and Watch Dogs with season pass) was £80. It was much better value to get the full system with two games than the kinect-less console alone. What's more, the Kinect isn't sold separately so a if a couple of years down the line games start requiring kinect, I wouldn't be able to play them. It just made sense to me. The final factor which swayed me in the direction of Microsoft was the gamers themselves; while most gamers are arseholes, there are many more genuinely pleasant people on xbox than the PS3 and PS4.

Man... this shoulda been something that should have been sorted out since the beginning, and this may have even marked the difference between the Xbone's initial success, or failure. We'll see as time goes on how well this console progresses...

Well, it is a bit late now. I don't know anyone that wants it anymore, everyone around town have jumped on the pc or ps4.

The xbox seems okay now, but I doubt it is powerful enough to last more than a few years. If one wants a weak console with good exclusives why not buy the wiiu? Without the kinect or earthscattering exclucives, while being weaker than its competator I don't see where its market lies anymore.

Actually, the Kinect was listed as the main reason people didn't want to buy the console.  It wasn't really helping.
