What's the big deal about sex?

If you couldn't already tell, I don't hide when it comes to the subject of sex. I've been very open about sex since as early as puberty, and never really saw it as a big deal. In fact, it's a defining feature of my personality. I'm a borderline sexual deviant ^-^ But that makes it sound icky... Let's just say I'm very "anti-prude".

Now, I definitely believe the act should be handled with extreme care, and safety, but I really don't think it should be treated like a once-in-a-life-time thing, or referred to as something so vile and dirty, when in reality, it's a beautiful ritual that occurs all throughout nature. ~Pic related~ It shouldn't be completely exiled from society. It's in our programming. We are sexual creatures by default. We just have emotions and standards thrown on top of our primary instincts because we're human, but that doesn't mean we should hide from them.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a private thing, but discussion is harmless. No one is truly getting hurt when someone else is a bit more comfortable with talking about penises and vaginas. Just because one person isn't scared of nature doesn't mean they should be discriminated.

I think that society these days is WAY too prudish with censorship, and it makes me sad. Why lie to ourselves? Why hide from something that makes us whole and together? If it weren't for sex, none of us would exist, so stop treating the beautiful, natural ritual with so little care. There's no need to throw it into the closet, and forget about it until your honeymoon. Embrace it.

I've had so many... uh, "experiences" in high school that I can't even pretend I'm sexually conservative at this point.

Well, if you aren't sexually conservative, care to share your stories? ;3

Nah.

I think I'll go ahead and pass on that one.

It isn't just nowadays. The sexual prudishness is a holdover from older times such as the middle ages, where their religions deemed it was inappropriate for some reason. At the very least, our society had become a bit more open to it since. But it will probably be long after we are dead when it loses its stigma. Which is sad, as I believe that speaking of it can be healthy for some and like to do it myself at times. I also think it's much less harmful than all the violence they don't censor. It really is a double standard that makes no sense.

I'm getting the sinking feeling that a select few on here are assuming that every male on this site has never even kissed a woman before.

I completely agree. Sex is pretty harmless in a way. It doesn't really warrant so much censorship.

I don't see that at all.

I've kissed both genders, and several cats ^-^

I must agree to all that you said, and I for one think its funny when other ponies get all upset over sex.. its like why? sex is wonderful! and talking about it.. well I cant stop myself from doing so :)

Which kind of sucks... because my BF is "one of those" kind of people... its like WOW....  but its soo nice to see other ponies like myself. Was feeling kind of alone :P

Call me a prude, hopeless romantic, whatever. It doesn't change who I am.

Sex to me is something I share only with someone I have deep feelings for. It's a personal private matter. I don't share stories with "the guys".

If sex shouldn't be warranted, clothes shouldn't be either.

I guess it's the feeling of vulnerability. People for over a million years have developed the routine of clothes because of our need for them, and the fact that sex is generally an act being naked, it's just not a normal thing that the general public should consider as a passerby topic.

You gotta be in the know to know you know?

And about clothes. What's up with them?? They're itchy, restricting, and generally a nuisance. They should be outlawed!!

The human race hates itself, as evidenced by this hatred to sex, the hatred to the human body and nudity, extreme torture and masochism in religion, and tons of other things.

I agree with this post. Sex is natural and whatnot, so I don't understand why so many people just freak out about the very mention of it. My mom is like this. Um, hello? Sex is how she created me! Yet, she despises the very concept of it now. Meh.

I think it's a matter of people jumping to conclusions and confusing the smallest thing with its extreme form. Like how Muslims get mixed up with Islamists (Islam does NOT equal Islamism), Atheists mock all of Christianism because of the actions of a few fundamentalists, gay/bi people are considered hypersexual and polygamous because anyone who doesn't speak is assumed heterosexual, newborn boys are circumcised because of a small number of uncut men with poor hygiene habits, men are all viewed as potential rapists and murderers (while nannies who rape pre-teen boys walk away) because of a few men who assault... the list goes on and on.

I often see people (mostly conservative Catholics) praise suffering, call any act of eating "greed" unless you're starve, and any sexual intercourse "lust" if it has anything besides vaginal penetration.

And about clothes. What's up with them?? They're itchy, restricting, and generally a nuisance. They should be outlawed!!

If you wanna be called out every time you have a boner or stain your seat every time your period starts (depending on your sex) then sure thing.

Also I hear women also get "tit-boners" when aroused... or when it's cold. Good luck trying to explain yourselves to horny dudes on a cold subway ride, girls. C:

I agree, people should be more open about this kind of thing. There is no reason to make sex taboo, especially since reproduction is the sole purpose of any living thing, including humans.

I'll have you know I kissed my mother many times before, and she didn't resist too. :C

I get what this blog entry is trying to say though, and I find it agreeable. There is nothing wrong with sex if it's a natural thing. Actually, I'm a bit open on it (the subject of sex), but I guess there's something about me being too open.

I agree, people treat the subject of sex in a weird way. I guess it's just something we're taught. Since sex is natural, we shouldn't act so prudish about it.

People make too much of big about deal it. I guess it's because people have high hopes regarding sex.

I totally agree with everything you wrote.

Whenever sex comes up as a topic, everypony hides their feelings and thoughts about it, because they all think, that is the morally correct thing to do. I'm not saying that we should always talk about how/when/with who/in whose bed did I/you/he/she/it/us/they got laid, but why be affraid to dicuss about something as trivial as sex?

I was just kidding. I'm WAY too shy to just walk around naked. Plus, clothes can be really comfortable, like these fleece pajama bottoms I'm wearing right no ^-^

Following on from what Arylett said, it's baffling how the double standard extends to sexual violence as well. Since the S4 premiere I have seen numerous tentacle rape jokes, both here and elsewhere. And while I'm personally not offended by that humor, it's so weird to me that those jokes are tolerated while jokes about female orgasms are not. It's almost funny.

I see talk of wing boners, and various other innuendos. I can't see the problem.

The reason why sex is such a sensitive topic is because parents are protective for their children. Sometimes a little overprotective. Also sex is in a way an act of lust, the inability to stop yourself from thinking about it and wanting to do it, caring about yourself only, which is why it is thought to be primitive.
