Well, Sony and Microsoft need to make money, so of course they would force us to give up the old consoles and buy the new ones. If they didn't, they wouldn't be able to make a profit. The bottom line is money.
Mind you, in about two years it will probably cost as much to get a reconditioned xBox One as it will to buy a new game, given how game prices are going up.
