  1. Interesting. My wife loves this show. Many parents about my age who had kids around the same time seem to have a show or two they enjoyed when their kids were watched. For me that was many shows. Some include A:TLAB, F&F, MLP:FiM.

I personally prefer most shows that have 2-3 seasons and end on a high note. Disney generally does a decent job with this, even cancelling critically acclaimed shows and under-merchandising them, which is surprising since they are a money generating super organization, but they are one of the only big media corporations that was able to increase their share and net asset value year over year, so I can’t fault the results. Even when a story doesn’t land for me, they usually have someone in the pipeline that does. Still, a revival is a really odd move for them.

    Interesting indeed.

  2. I posted this in the announcement regarding upcoming features.

I won’t give an ETA because, this is a volunteer thing and my wife, my health, kid, grandkids, career, and friends come first. I love you all, but I’m only here when all of those things have nothing outstanding that I could do. In the past I’ve been flexible about timing. That isn’t happening anymore.

I will launch this when and only when I have caught up with prior obligations. Thank you for understanding.

  3. For years we have utilized the Awards system to give our badges for participation in events. Soon I will be moving badges previously earned to the Achievements system.  Awards is a paid-for enhancement add-on that I pay for every six months, and Invision created the Achievements enhancement built-in, which can do the same thing but it’s part of the main package so … yay less cost to me. Achievements has most of the same abilities as Awards, but what we lose in one we can in another. I’ll be doing a lot of this in the background, but wanted people to know that any oddities that they note with Awards from prior events will be housed somewhere else. As I start wrapping this up, I’ll make a full announcement of how it works when the Events Team is trained up on it. It’s an exciting change that someone of you will probably appreciate a lot.

  4. Like shipping, the depths of this topic are extremely interesting, and not that surprising. Crushes on fictional characters have some pretty strong roots in how we process emotions, what we desire, our idealized self, idealized partner, and how art impacts us as a species. Whether it’s Rhett Butler, Rick Blaine, Sabrina Spellman, or Twilight Sparkle, humans have been crushing on fictional characters longer than anyone here has been alive.

As @The Wife of Sabo said, the reasons vary as to what brings about a crush. I would imagine it’s pretty similar to an IRL attraction for some. Someone about the person’s look/design, voice, personality, etc. catches their attention and emotions go from there.

Fictional crushes do not happen to the exclusion of a real interpersonal romantic relationship. I’ve been married twice, and have/had a healthy relationship with both. I’ve also experienced the allure of a well-crafted fictional character in all forms of media (text, live action, gaming, animation). While most are human, one or two are not. For me, I’m built to fall for the personality and intellect first. It’s/was the same with my spouses. My current wife has a great affinity for anti-hero bad boy types like Jackson on Sons of Anarchy, so she isn’t immune either.

I think as long as we have this drive as a species to make and consume art, humans will always fall for fictional characters at some level.

  5. I'm in the process of fully implementing the Achievement system. When it broke I did a temporary fix and recounted the system to mimic the old system. Any issues from changes I am making are a natural byproduct of my meddling in that system. Points were not counting while I was playing with it, but they were turned off for every user so it was still fair, so to speak. We don't have a test environment, so when I do this it will impact the production environment in ways that I cannot foresee.

No user has been kept from accessing any area of the forum due to this, as access permissions are handled by Groups and not by Ranks. Once a user is Promoted to Member they should have all accesses even if their rank badge is showing Blank Flank. Groups are controlled by post count not point value. Posts in areas that posts do not count are still in effect. Users cannot spam their way into Debate Pit.

Points are a different system and number of points accumulated will award a rank that corresponds to that point value. Points are now accumulating for replies/comments in all areas of the forum from now on. Points will shortly be turned on for other forum use cases, when I am done and testing is complete I will make a full announcement how the point system works. Unlike last time changes made will count going forward, but not retroactively.

Shining Armor or Cadence seems to be way more interesting then other Equestrian princesses because they feel cool.

From a storytelling perspective they had a built-in advantage of being automatically more dynamic and fluid. They were not introduced with much backstory to anchor them, allowing the reader to craft away. By being married and starting a family it further played into a lot of potential scenarios that were not as likely to explore with Luna, Celestia, or Twilight.

Plus … Princess of Love fits with Princess of Friendship like the Moon and Sun complement each other

    But why not Cadance?

The simplest in-universe explanation is that out of all the Princesses only one has been around for many generations without interruption. Cadance, Flurry, and Twilight are newer. Luna was away for quite a bit (her name isn’t as common an expression either).

  8. This thread appears to be some manner of random (but strangely enjoyable) nonsense, or something spammy of the sort. Thus, it has been sentenced to the Forum Lounge section of Cloudsdale Colosseum.

  9. To my knowledge, most original movies and shows, exclusive to streaming platforms, also put out physical media. At least the more popular ones. I do own several of my favs as physical copies. To be fair, I don’t see Netflix dropping Stranger Things or the Crown from the platform, but if they do and BluRay players still exists … I’m covered. It’s sort of my thing. If I adore a film or series I will buy a physical copy.

Now, if we could get a full BluRay release of a certain show about a few ponies who band together to spread friendship … I’ll be happy.

So Cozy Glow wins. I can’t believe this one won, but here we are.

Since we crossed the $2250 threshold there is a bit more to the cosplay.

I’ll be creating a Blog/Vlog over the next few months as I put this together.

Cosplay will be worn for one full day at the Con with will include any Panels we have (there will be video) and also the Cosplay Contest/Show.

I’ll record shoutout requests the day of the cosplay and do a in-character AMA.

  11. Well, in all elements where truth and proof are elusive, the rule of parsimony tends to be the best, and smartest, approach to eliminate less plausible scenarios.

With both Viacom and WB both in market capitalization and asset valuation decline, you almost always expect turnover to shake things up, and have to be financially justified. Demographic analysis is still a method that is used religiously by executives put in place to stop a hemorrhage. If Phoebe had data to show it would be a likely net gain, it would not have been dropped, regardless of her prior work. Corporate fiduciary liability.

Right now there is only one major media empire that can take risks because when one segment loses billions the others make that up and then some. It isn’t Viacom and it isn’t WB. Dana Simpson was most likely just a victim of generic demographic research and data.

I mentioned this in the Hasbro thread when Hasbro decided to get out of the movie making business and people got upset like it’s a betrayal. They really need to touch on Corporate Fiduciary Law in High School economics.

  12. I actually want to use episodes from when I was a kid, during the 80’s, from three IP’s that were built around buying merch not really the stories.

World’s Without End - GI Joe ARAH two parter that actually delves into what would happen if Cobra won, because they legit do in a really wonderfully paced and dark arc. There are some legit permanent changes to the series because of this episode.

Cookie Chomper III - Alvin & the Chipmunks famous episode that starts off with your typical goofy fare and story about the kids finding a kitten and hiding it from an allergic Dave. Then, when you think you got to the payoff, you realize that … oh … oh … no. Screw you show! You were supposed to be safe!

Dark Awakening - Transformers decided that after they killed off Prime and before they resurrected him, they would give us all nightmares and an existential crisis.

All of those are considered to be the most emotional shows of their respective series within their respective fandoms. I could definitely go darker in series that were meant to be dark and such, but these shows were not meant to tackle concepts like these.
