Who should Rainbow Dash's soul mate be?

They all know that Sunset's really a pony from another world, and they also know that recent developments with the portal have allowed her to go between worlds any time she wants. So why haven't they expressed interest in going with her to Equestria and experiencing what it's like there? Don't they want to find out what it's like to live in the body of a pony? Don't they want to see Princess Twilight again and catch up with her? Starlight got to visit their world for a few days, so it would make sense for Sunset to invite the rest of her friends to the other side of the portal. She can bring each of them to Equestria on separate trips if need be, to keep from disrupting whatever balance Celestia was talking about in EQG1 (which I still think is an unfounded claim, since both Twilights have already met and nothing happened). If nothing else, it'd be interesting to see how the Humane Six's pony designs would differ from the original Mane Six, and what would happen if they crossed paths with each other. Meghan McCarthy already confirmed that it's technically possible, plus it also gives Hasbro another opportunity to sell more toys. So why not make this a focus in a new EQG special?

I don't see the rationale to this. You know the Mane Six, not the princesses. This would be like taking toys of close friends and making them do stupid things to political figures. And even if you know they wouldn't actually do those things, the absurdity of it is what makes it entertaining. It's all satirical in nature, and not unlike anything you see on shows like Robot Chicken. If you're disturbed by that, then you've been sheltered.
-
You find this merchant pony at an "enchanted toy" shop in Equestria. He's made several figures of existing ponies, including the Mane Six and the royal sisters. When you ask him why he's selling merchandise in their image, he simply says he's a huge fan of theirs and wants to be the first to bank of their awesomeness in the toy market. What makes these figures so good is they're very lifelike, almost as if they're shrunken versions of each pony they're sculpted after. And the material used to make them is so good, they won't break. Ever. They're impervious to any blunt force, and even magic force, making them suitable for both collectors AND fillies. When the merchant offers you a considerable discount on the Mane Six, Celestia and Luna, it seems like the whole set's too good to pass up on. So you agree to buy them, and not long after, you take them to your place to mess with for shits and giggles. Like anybody who's ever owned a toy, you put them in stupid-looking positions, you pretend that they're saying things they normally wouldn't (like swearing non-stop), and you even smack them against each other. You especially take pleasure in grabbing a front hoof on the Twilight figure and hitting it repeatedly on the Celestia's face, like she was attacking her for her throne. You hit the Fluttershy figure's back hoof on Celestia's butt and say the word "bitch" in the most cute voice you can make. You take the Rainbow Dash figure and set her hooves down on the Luna figure's face, etc. And these are just a FEW of the crazy things you come up with, because you go at it for hours. Like the merchant said, these toys will never break. And they're a ton of fun! On the next day, you go to Ponyville to see the Mane Six and show them your new toys, but then quickly learn from their friends and family that they're being held prisoner in Celestia's castle. So you go there and get permission to visit them in their cell. And when you ask them what happened, Twilight explains that on the previous night, they all lost control of their bodies and did things to Celestia and Luna.... that were disturbingly similar to how you were playing with those toys. Twilight involuntarily punched Celestia in the face over and over, while some indescribable force caused her to shout curse words at her, tell her that SHE's the rightful ruler of Equestria, and that she deserves the throne more. Fluttershy recounts shamefully that while all this was happening, she booted Celestia in the ass and called her a bitch. Rainbow Dash tells you that something drove her to stomp on Luna's face, and nearly suffocate her. Then they go on to describe everything else they did. They tell you the exact time it started, and you realize that every detail they gave you correlates perfectly with all the things you've done with the toys. It's not clear why Celestia and Luna took all the abuse though. They just stood there helplessly. So you show the figures to them, do a little experiment by placing a hoof from the Applejack figure on the Rarity one's nose and saying "I love you", and the real Applejack follows suit. She boops the real Rarity and tells her she loves her. And of course after seeing this, the Mane Six all get fucking furious. They demand that you show the figures to Celestia and explain their power to her, so that YOU can take responsibility for their actions and get her to release them from jail. You insist that you shouldn't be held accountable for anything, since you didn't make the toys, you know nothing about Equestrian magic, and you bought them from some stranger. How the hell were you supposed to know they'd be controlled? So instead, you tell them you're going to apprehend the pony who sold you the toys so that he can take the punishment instead. There's just one problem though. When you go to that same location the transaction was made, there's no sign of him OR his toy shop anywhere. And no matter who you ask, every pony tells you the same thing. They've never seen him. They've never heard of him. And you're crazy. It's like he never even existed. So now you're out of options. Do you show Celestia the toys and take the prison sentence for the Mane Six, or do you maintain your innocence and stay out of it?

That's not a bad suggestion, but even the strongest chain in security has a weak point. If anything, giving every citizen annual training will make these extensions to the Royal Guard even more potent than they are on the surface. Because even though the ponies aren't required to take active duty, they could always be alert. And depending on the circumstances, they can either report suspicious activity to the guards in uniform, or failing that, deal with the problem themselves if they're being threatened and then report to the guards so they can modify their protocol. At least this way, there would be no need for any pony to feel apprehensive about their homeland turning into a police state; the citizens would be doing most of the policing themselves just by living. The current Royal Guard is utterly worthless, so the Mane Six and their closest friends are practically Equestria's only line of defense. Hence, they have to struggle consistently with villains attacking the country every season. These new Royal Guard branches would make it more difficult for sure, but with very thorough planning, as per the norm with villains, there's still a chance you can slip through the cracks and cause problems. But if you've got the WHOLE population on alert and ready to thrown down with you at the slightest provocation? Now you're definitely not getting away with it. That would be as futile as committing crimes in a reformed Gotham City where all civilians had the training and equipment to fight like Batman. That's not to say that the Mane Six or the princesses would no longer be needed. They just wouldn't have to be on the front lines all the time. And that's a good thing. If a villain can't even figure out how to disrupt a music festival without getting Vinyl's turntable shoved up their ass, they won't be plotting conquests for very long.

Time for FlutterHugger, the perfect nature pair. Lovers of all animal life and spirituality would surely have genuine love for each other. Why people haven't learned to accept Tree Hugger and stop hating on her, I'll never know. She deserves a chance with Flutters as much as any other Shy partner this fandom has given her.- 29 replies

I agree. But the idea isn't about making ponies go to war. It's about making them learn how to defend themselves. The movie shows that they can be victimized at any time. The elements, as critical as they are to their society, won't do them a lot of good if they're helpless in some hostage situation. The Mane Six and the princesses aren't always going to be there for them. And if alicorns aren't immune to being stuck in changeling cocoons or turning into crystal statues, they can't be relied upon to resolve every conflict Equestria gets dragged into. Yes, the ponies were stuck in many terrible realities in the Cutie Re-Mark, but as demonstrated in those two fan animations, scenarios like that would be even less likely to happen if every pony civilian felt empowered and stood up against every villain that came to oppress them, regardless if they're active service ponies or not. Under a nation-wide militia, they'd still be free to do what they want with their lives. They'd still work towards building a better world on the values of friendship. They'd just have more tools at their disposal to make sure no pony-hating creep tries to fuck with them!
-
To be fair, the plan wouldn't involve instituting a draft. Just saying. No person or pony would want to be put on active duty against their will, so of course everyone would be against that. But in a world with magic stealing centaurs, specters and menacing changelings, I don't think they would object to at least being given sufficient knowledge on how to protect themselves from evil creatures and dark magic, and not having to rely on the same six ponies bearing elements of harmony to save them every time. Even if you looked at our society in general, if you asked anybody if they'd want to be a soldier, a lot of people would say no. But they'd more than likely still want the benefits that come with being a badass. Nobody wants to feel vulnerable.
-
If you haven't guessed, the idea was inspired from these short fan animations. Give them a watch if you can. They're badass beyond words. So after the events of the movie, Celestia has been thinking real hard about all of Equestria's past conflicts, especially with evil tyrants and monsters like Tirek, Chyrsalis, the Storm King and so on. The one thing that most of them seem to have in common is that they hate ponies.... simply for being ponies. Ponies carry this stigma of being too happy and weak, and for the longest time, virtually no other species could take them seriously. Celestia believes that despite all the heroes and magical resources to prove the contrary, her subjects' way of life has consistently left them open to attack for centuries. And needless to say, she's getting fed up with it. She could assemble the Mane Six and all their allies each time a new villain threatens their country, but why keep doing that when she can discourage such threats in the first place with a drastic image change? Spreading the message of friendship is not enough. Everyone fears DRAGONS. Why not magical fucking ponies?! After taking the alternate timelines that Twilight has witnessed into account, she decides that the best way to achieve this goal and mitigate all conflict is to turn Equestria into an all-powerful militia, where every citizen is elevated to "soldier status" and prepared to fight at all times. Her hope in doing this is to create the ultimate utopia, where peace can't be so easily taken from her kingdom. The ponies have always had superior numbers, so no matter what dark magic threatens the country, those numbers can finally mean something. And while friendship will still be an ideal worth sharing with the world, it won't be something villains can take advantage of anymore. She declares her intention to instate mandatory courses to train ponies on how to better fend off villains. Regardless of class or occupation, they will have no choice but to participate each year. Martial arts and weapons training will become the standard for all three pony races. Unicorns will have to learn new spells so their magic becomes more potent at hurting their enemies. And all pegasi will have to attend the Wonderbolt Academy so they could maneuver better in the air, if not fly faster. Understandably, not every pony has that fighting spirit. Some are too scared to engage in combat, even when their freedom is on the line. Others are just quick to condemn the use of violence altogether. So in response to this, Celestia is also proposing some mental training for anyone deemed too weak or inexperienced to face new adversaries. Then there are ponies that are just physically incapable of defending themselves. Celestia has an easy fix for that too: all elderly and disabled ponies will be entitled to free bodyguard services. To top it off, she also plans to slap ponies with a heavy fine if they refuse to cooperate. The rationale to this is that any pony who refuses to work towards meeting their fighting potential will be regarded as a liability to their fellow ponies, and if their defiance drives them into poverty, they bloody well deserve it. Despite this, Celestia's plan is being met with some resistance. To quell all misgivings about the social outcome, and get the press to shut the hell up, she'll be holding a conference to discuss the matter with the other princesses, several politicians from every major Equestrian city, and lastly, delegates from every non-pony race. That includes you. What do you say? Are you on board with making Equestria a home for the ultimate badasses, or do you feel that ponies would become too dangerous and hinder their own ability to spread friendship? I don't know about you, but if I was being directly threatened, I'd be more than happy to have a pony friend that could kick ass and save my life. Even a background pony!
-
Seems like a good plan, though the execution would largely depend on how you got that device on the machine to tamper with the magic protecting it. It would take a lot of research to develop, and it'd be difficult to accomplish without a pony that's both really knowledgeable on magic and hasn't already been captured. Plus, the ponies aren't the only ones in the machine. There's a lot of other random plushes the claw could pick up, so you'd also have to be very careful not to blow your 2-for-1 grabs and get something you didn't want. For that reason, even after adjusting the payout rate and having extreme precision on where you lower the claw, you'd be lucky to save more than 20 ponies.

Rare & Underrated Ships Fan Club
KillerKingBakudan replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in Fan Clubs
I normally don't support mixed-species ships, but I actually like Thorax X Ember. The possibilities with changelings are endless! Having said that, I also know I'm not the only one who likes this ship. I've seen plenty of people commenting about it when they first started interacting, so I'm not sure that it counts as rare or even underrated. Any other combination with Spike or Starlight probably is though. Time for some Octarity, my second favorite pony pairing. Rarity and Octavia together are just elegance incarnate.- 29 replies

Welcome to the fan club for rare and underrated ships. If there are two characters you wholeheartedly believe make a good pair, and you feel the need to express why it deserves more love from the fandom, this is the club for you! Because I'm such a fanboy for this pair, I'm going to kick this off with some VinylDash: Two tomboyish mares who've mastered the art of coolness in their own ways. Cool music and cool competitive vibes go hand-in-hand. Post artwork and other content to show support for your favorite ships that are badly overlooked! Credibility is the key here. When you first present a rare ship, try to win everyone over so they can at least understand it. Make us see why it truly is underrated, and why it's worth supporting. We don't always have to agree with a ship, but as long as you have sound reasoning behind yours, and you can make your case on why they're actually a good fit for each other- assuming the artwork can't do it alone- we'll know you're not just randomly slapping any two characters together for the hell of it. Or any two things together for the sake of spamming. Like this: And of course, the general fan club rules apply here as well. - Keep all images SFW. You can show something suggestive, but nothing mature. - Do not hate on another fan club. - Do NOT hate on each other's ships! Agree to disagree on ships, but never diss them. - Be respectful towards other members. - Fan art is encouraged, but all images with the exception of the cover image in this first post must have the proper spoiler tags. Large amounts of unspoilered images on a single page can often cause lag and nobody likes to deal with lag. Have fun!

While that is true, the EQG Bishoujo statues aren't just being made to attract bronies. They're going to share the same stylized look as the rest of the characters they've made, so that already makes them a draw for fans of anime and magical schoolgirls in general. In both regions, that's a genre with a fairly respectable following in and of itself. And I'm sure that Kikirara crossover merch will garner enough interest from young girls to be profitable. The MLP movie helped boost Hasbro's toy sales, so they know that interest for the brand is still there.
-
Without knowing the details behind Sanrio's or Kotobukiya's contracts with Hasbro, there's nothing to suggest that either product will fail. There are plenty of Japanese companies that have a history of developing products specifically for overseas demographics. Their home consumer base is not always the market they'll try to appeal to, especially not when their products are based on Western brands. I think it's more likely that Japanese retailers will receive limited quantities of these new MLP items compared to the West to satisfy what little demand there is in that region. Look at Marvel and DC. Their characters only have a cult following in Japan at best, yet Square-Enix managed to build huge profits with their respective licenses. The Play Arts Kai superhero figures they made have been a hot item for a multitude of consumers in America, from comic book fans, to action figure collectors, art enthusiasts, and even anime fans in the case of the Marvel/DC Variant lines (some of which were designed by Tetsuya Nomura, who's best known for his Final Fantasy illustrations). That's how Square's been producing them for more than a decade now. They're only starting to lose popularity due to the ridiculous price increases with each new line up, not to mention their fixation with milking the shit out of Batman. But they've also made Play Arts figures for several American movie and video game franchises, including Star Wars, Alien, Predator, Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc. If something in America has a large enough fanbase, they'll likely have acquired the rights to produce merchandise for it. Their sales in Japan mean very little in the long run. With that said, I'm surprised they haven't made their own Play Arts Equestria Girls figures by now.
