  1. Every time I see someone making up theories about where Applejack's parents went, I feel sad, like they're missing out on one of this show's most poetic and moving stories because they refuse to see what's right in front of them. If they turned out to be alive, "The Perfect Pear" would lose most of what makes it such a great episode.

      Will Guide

I have to agree with you on that. If it turns out they're alive, it could make them look like deadbeats and ruin the point of how the parents lives affected several ponies' lives for the better as well as (the following spoiler box is just my head fanon, so don't take it too seriously)

      Spoiler

in my head fanon, a certain hungry Changeling guard to one day have a change of heart due to their influence. (C. Will Guide before he had a name)

I'm also concerned for the bittersweet feeling of the Apples bonding with people over filling an absence in their lives, as well as for the tragedy of Grand Pear screwing up his last ever interaction with his daughter. The sad stuff in that episode is just so poignant.

      Lambdadelta

That remind me of the credit of Kung Fu Panda 2, the parents turn out alive ruined that movie for me.

  2. I really hope that MLP continues its recent hot streak, because I'd love nothing more than to completely change my mind about season 7. I don't want to hate it, and I'm glad that I've liked it for four straight episodes now.

    1. Hierok

      Hierok

Who doesn't. The last 2 episodes were pure gold. :pinkie:

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

It would be bad to end the hot streak by a Twilight episode :fiery:

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@Hierok I've enjoyed every episode since "A Royal Problem," which is good, because before that I enjoyed only two of 9 episodes.

@Lambdadelta This one could go either way. It's an unusual premise, so I'm curious. I just hope there's more going on than just bickering or cringe comedy.

  3. Pinkie Pie has a sneaking suspicion that she might be a cartoon character, but she doesn’t know for sure.

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

Pinkie and Discord are the most cartoonish characters of the entire universe. (that why she can handle Chaos magics anyway)

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@Lambdadelta And even Pinkie can't handle it for very long.

  4. Equestria Girls 1 would have been more interesting if Twilight had tried to befriend Sunset right away, and then had to teach her that friendship is the real path to that sense of accomplishment she craves.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

I'm curious about what it would have looked like if Sunset's reformation weren't instantaneous.

    2. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Hmmm yeah, that could be interesting.

    3. Sparklefan1234

      Sparklefan1234

      I agree.

After thinking about it for a while, the thing I like the most about EQG 1 is

Twilight Sparkle experiencing what it's like human.

Also, while I like "bad girl Sunset Shimmer" her motivation, plan & execution of said plan was *incredibly* weak. :sunny:

  5. Come to think of it, my soft spot for "Newbie Dash" probably has a lot to do with my fondness for "Equestria Games." Both are deeply empathetic depictions of a very insecure character fucking up repeatedly.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

Even the harshest critic has their soft spots for anything ;3. This fandom just want a saint like Sunset :}} not real people who can mske the same mistake from time to time.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

saintly Sunset is so much more boring than when it looked like she might actually have flaws, internal torment, etc.

    3. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

My Past is Not Today. From that day, she decided to abandon her old-self and become a Phoenix, she now stands in even higher ground that i cant look up to her anymore because its too high and far away. I hope Starlight can keep standing in the ground that i can see and look up to, even stand by me. That my metaphor of relatability;3

@FlareGun45 I'm honestly surprised the tea thing stuck around so long.

  7. My Little Pony premieres, ranked:

    1. "The Crystalling"
    2. "The Return of Harmony"
    3. "The Crystal Empire"
    4. "Friendship is Magic"
    5. "The Cutie Map"
    6. "School Daze"
    7. "The Beginning of the End"
    8. "Celestial Advice" / "All Bottled Up"
    9. "Princess Twilight Sparkle"

      RulesofRarity

Great list so happy to see The Crystalling and TCE so high up.

    2. Kion

@AlexanderThrond nice to see someone else who’s favorite premiere is the crystalling.

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@Mane 6 It strikes the best balance and makes the most sense out of all of them.

  8. "The Mean 6" - Were it not for "Horse Play," I would declare this the funniest episode of the season. Just love those Discorded personalities, and teaming them up with a newly-bumbling, vaguely deranged Chrysalis is delightful, as is the way they bounce off both each other and the normal mane seven. Wonder what reverse Starlight would be like. There's even a nice moral at the very end. Man, this season has been fantastic.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

The only thing that bother me in this ep is that they downplayed Chrysalis so hard. She used to be one of the most terrifying villain of the show...

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

I dunno if she was ever terrifying. I like her being comedic.

  9. "The Hooffields & the McColts" is totally underrated.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

At least, it's better than Avatar's "The Great Divide" XD. Not bad, I am not familiar with the real history incident so this story is kinda "new" to me, but still... something off with Twilight, Twilight is a bit... flanderization, i guess :D

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

She comes across to me like being a princes has gone to her head and she's convinced she's supposed to be a perfect problem solver. It's hilarious.

  10. seriously though was that canon AppleDash or what

    1. Megas

      Megas

Jim and Haber either dodged the questions or gave non answers, saying it's up to the viewers....though I'd say that adds to it's favor

      Spoiler

Also the leaked transcripts and emails revealed that the AppleDash implications were deliberate

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Yeah, like, they were talking about how Dash doesn't do the chores. Not sure how else I'm supposed to interpret that.

  11. Started watching that new Equestria Girls short. Got about four parts in and needed to stop... I'll watch the last two when it finishes this week. I am not enjoying this thing at all; it gives Sunset more flaws and has some funny Pinkie moments, but it's just so predictable and so slow-paced, there's also a lot of annoying Pinkie moments, and I'm not sure selfish unlikable Sunset is a good replacement for boring do-gooder Sunset.

But I guess I'll see how the rest is when I finish it.

    1. Megas

      Megas

I disliked the last two enough that I wound up skipping that one, though I was willing to break the rules and watch some of Holiday Unwrapped,

      Spoiler

since they're just 6 longer standalone shorts instead of one long special, I feel it was easier to get away with

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Kiryu-Chan I've been watching it on YouTube so those ones aren't quite out yet; I kinda dug all of the other stuff at the music festival so this special starting off as a generic bore is frustrating.

  12. Anyone keeping notes on all the Lyra and Bon Bon cameos this season? It seems like they've been together a lot in the background lately.

    1. Dark Qiviut

      Dark Qiviut

I won't be surprised if it has something to do with the 200th episode next year.

  13. I will never understand the mindset of people who complain when My Little Pony characters don't make the absolute best decisions all the time.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

People expect characters learning so much from their past several seasons should not make some stupid mistakes, or people treat characters more like machine other than people who could make mistakes.:fluttershy:

Common sense is overrated in kids show.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

That this show features exaggerated behaviour is part of why I like it.

  14. Just watched "Loving Vincent." Am I alone in thinking that animating Van Gogh's paintings completely ruins them?

    1. Sparklefan1234

      Sparklefan1234

I saw a review for "Loving Vincent" & I thought the idea was unique but also silly at the same time.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

They put rotoscoped actors against animated versions of Van Gogh paintings. I'm not a fan of the effect, but it's certainly interesting.

  15. Am I the only one who thought that "Gauntlet of Fire" was just okay?

    1. Twireadbok

      Twireadbok

No you're not I also have that opinion. Some people really went crazy from Ember, I never really saw why. Its sad but I think she actually had more character development in that single episode then Spike has ever had.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Hmm, not sure I agree there. Thought Spike got pretty consistent development in seasons 1-4, whereas I can't see Ember as much more than a walking cliche.

  16. Equestria Girls season 2 started with a dog video. Nice.

I hope Rarity does a cat video with Opalescence.

  17. If we ever find out the truth about Pinkie Pie, I suspect we will all immediately regret it.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

Why? I dont think Pinkie has any secret that we havent known yet...

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Lambdadelta How does she ignore the laws of reality all the time? Somehow, I don't think we will like the answer.

      That, too, is an option.

  22. "A Horse Shoe-In"

    Entertainment: 5/10
    Characters: 7/10
    Themes: 9/10
    Story: 8/10
    Overall: 73/100

This is good, but I found Trixie's rambling annoying, so I gave "Entertainment" a weaker score to compensate.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

This ep is all about Plant abuse and repetitive WINKs.:lostit:

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Lambdadelta I definitely agree that Trixie saying "wink" got old pretty fast.

  23. Both of the good episodes this season are from new writers. Who would have guessed?

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

Especially weird when considering that Newbie Dash was also from a new writer and that episode was....ugh.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

I sort of have a soft spot for "Newbie Dash" but "Parental Glideance" is much better simply by not having that cringy middle part.

  24. This new Equestria Girls short series is genuinely the most confident and focused Equestria Girls has felt since at least Friendship Games. Were it not for the 3-minute length, they might even reach the heights of Rainbow Rocks. And it's certainly better than what the show's doing right now, because it's simple and humorous and doesn't beat you over the head with its morals. Seemingly because it doesn't have a whole lot of morals, but hey, has Equestria Girls ever had much in that area?

Still hoping for bigger things, such as Sunset finally getting a chance to return to Equestria - preferably in something which isn't an epic battle with a villain; 22 minutes would be fine for me - and it's not quite what brought me to My Little Pony in the first place, but these have potential. They even gave Sunset hobbies! Next she needs flaws and goals. And, hopefully, a human counterpart. On that subject, I still want a short of the human and pony mane six interacting.

R.I.P. Princess Sunlight shipping, though. I've gotten scraps, but I see no hope of future material. I still kinda miss when Princess Twilight had anything to do with this series. Maybe something in the future.

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

These new EQG series are great, i like them much better than summertime shorts, especially Fluttershy one. S8 hiatus will be painful to me, these shorts can ease my pain.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Most of these are still kinda lightweight, but they're at least fun. They've got that simplicity which the show has been lacking lately.

  25. I have kind of a bad feeling about this "Legends" stuff everyone's talking about, but it's too early to pass judgment. The finale better not tell an impersonal story...

    1. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

So far, any ep involved 'Legends' stories are ranged from ok to bad (the legends are cool but the episodes themself are not), and i am including Health of Information ep.

Right now, I am not very fond of 'Telling Legend' kind of stories, the legends are cool but the episodes are bland by result. Whenever the show try so hard to build up some story arc, it didnt end very well.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Season 2 was awesome without a story arc because it expanded on everything. That's also why I liked seasons 3 and 6. Going forward, I want the show to focus on experimentation. A recurring storyline won't save it.
