      @Snow, It depends on how steady the atmosphere is. My estimate would be 80-100X magnification before atmospheric turbulence begins to degrade the image. High powers are frequently used on the Moon for craters, you'll just need to do lucky imaging to discard the distorted images.

      I imaged some craters near the Moon's terminator a couple nights ago. Magnification is about 400X.
