There, I've given a piece of my psychology for you and the reasoning behind why I find slice of life boring and sometimes aggravating to the core. It reminds me of a world I don't like to live in and wished I could exist some place else. Drama fantasies with action sequences, fighting for justice and toppling tyrants on the other hand remind me of ideals of truth and justice that our world simply does not have. Good people in such stories take action when they see what is wrong with the world and have the power to change it, they don't just leave it for somebody else to clean up. I like cuteness too, but there's a time and a place for it.

I'd bow to Luna and Celestia if I could, in MLP fiction, in the TV show version, they're not the stereotypical monarch, they actually do care about their kingdom and they don't use violence against everyone who disagrees with them. Celestia has actually put herself in harms way twice from what I remember to protect her loyal subjects, showing she is brave and not selfish and does not use another as her shield. Both times Chrysalis could have opted to kill her, but she did not luckily.

I'm not suggesting Equestria be told in a tale of full blown militarism, trust me on that one, that is not the direction I am taking my fan fiction in because I also think genres like that are boring, not to mention I would not want that much suffering to occur in a beautiful world like that, not even for the sake of trial and tribulation.
But the later seasons of the show Friendship is Magic drag too much, I cannot be engaged in a story when basically nothing interesting happens.

Some MLP fans may not realize it but I think Fluttershy's kindness also adds to the adventure aspect of the show. Her kindness toward others gives her allies a reason to keep fighting for justice and peace. For instance, Rainbow Dash does not like seeing Fluttershy being taken advantage of, citation, episode Flutter Brutter. When love for friends gives you a reason to believe in helping others, that is inspiring and fits well into the ethos about team work and friendship. That is what I like to see in shows like this, not have characters just talk all the time as if they are at school.

If there's any anime that is slice of life, don't bother recommending it to me. That is not a genre I am interested in.
As I said in my own fan fiction, "What's an adventure without the challenge?" though MLP FIM is not anime, Hasbro's story has good concepts I wish to integrate in my own fanfic. That is also a reason why I am going to leave the part of my OC and their phobia in the next life as a Pegasi, which will later be part of a test of courage when Luna helps my OC become more resilient. I've come to the conclusion that as unpleasant that would be to experience, it gives my OC something to work towards and prove loyalty to Equestria, and to not have everything handed to them, even being there in that fantasy world in the first place would be a privilege, not a right.

MLP My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is a good series but it has problems, problems which cannot be ignored. Coming from somebody who also watches Transformers, including G1, I find this to be jarring, because at least in TF they acknowledge villains as an active threat so long as they are not in the custody of the heroes of the story. Megatron's existence is not suddenly ignored just because Optimus Prime and his allies need to find energon or go to some other planet. A villain does not need to have it all their way at the time to be a problem for heroes of a story.

My main criticism of MLP FIM still stands today, not enough adventure, too much slice of life. I would have enjoyed the later seasons more if the show did not have the same monotony of a soap opera.
