  1. There, I've given a piece of my psychology for you and the reasoning behind why I find slice of life boring and sometimes aggravating to the core. It reminds me of a world I don't like to live in and wished I could exist some place else. Drama fantasies with action sequences, fighting for justice and toppling tyrants on the other hand remind me of ideals of truth and justice that our world simply does not have. Good people in such stories take action when they see what is wrong with the world and have the power to change it, they don't just leave it for somebody else to clean up. I like cuteness too, but there's a time and a place for it.

  2. That is what I hate most about slice of life, it reminds me of a world I simply cannot stand to be in, which in my opinion goes against the idea of escapism. I like fantasy stories with drama in them, because there is an engaging story where characters each have challenges and conflicts that need to be resolved with patience, understanding and team work, that is what got me into My Little Pony Friendship is Magic to start off with. Not only is there trial and tribulation in Equestria, friends work through it together, we don't have a soap opera situation where people just talk all day and find petty things to argue about.
  3. Is this adorable?

I'd bow to Luna and Celestia if I could, in MLP fiction, in the TV show version, they're not the stereotypical monarch, they actually do care about their kingdom and they don't use violence against everyone who disagrees with them. Celestia has actually put herself in harms way twice from what I remember to protect her loyal subjects, showing she is brave and not selfish and does not use another as her shield. Both times Chrysalis could have opted to kill her, but she did not luckily.

  4. Yeah, and Fluttershy also got bullied for not being able to fly if I remember her history correct, seeing as a Pegasi who could not fly was seen as "uncool". As awful bullying is in Equestria, I still would not let that prevent me from going to that fictional place if I could and wanting to be a Pegasi, because I know people do bullying far more often in the real world, with far worse outcomes. At least Fluttershy has friends who support her, and Rainbow Dash does not think less of her just because of her low wing power.
  5. Haha nice, I liked that part, Fluttershy letting out a bit of sass here and there is one thing I like about her.
  6. Apart from Chrysalis and her implied bloodlust, there really was not much to say about this episode. Mean 6 themselves were good on paper, bad in practice, because they offed themselves at the climax of the episode, so were a non threat, since all they did was annoy Chrysalis and become disobedient, which I do admit was funny, but besides this, where is the action? Mane Six did not really have to worry about them because they did not even know what was happening, and at the end of the episode it was already too late as Mean Six had died, Chrysalis had lost her foot-soldiers before the war even began. a villain without the drama in the story is a joke, the most generous I can give this, is mediocre, 5/10.
  7. Got no disagreement there, Code Lyoko is something I used to watch repeatedly back in the day. I don't remember all the details of it however there was an artificial intelligence in a VR world that had to be stopped, and they had to do all this without anyone else at their school knowing. Each character that went into Lyoko had their set of weapons to use, but if they die in the VR world, they die for real and they had to be constantly on the move to avoid Xana's machines. That is another example of drama sequences working well in animation.
  8. Queen Chrysalis as a villain in MLP FIM is wasted potential, one of the later seasons her ineffective minions Mean Six basically destroyed themselves, how is this making a villain threatening? and Mane Six were oblivious to what was going on. Yeah Queen Chrysalis can be scary sometimes, like threatening to murder Mean Six if they did not obey her orders, but all this amounted to practically nothing, since there was no conflict. The only part of Mean Six episode I did enjoy was seeing Mean Twilight get under Chrysalis skin and anger her with her nonchalance, and of course Pinkie Pie comforting Fluttershy after her feelings got hurt by one of the members of Mean Six. But I can see why some people had problems with later half of the show, from what I have seen of it so far, it drags, and no, simply adding more slice of life would not have helped.
  9. I'm not suggesting Equestria be told in a tale of full blown militarism, trust me on that one, that is not the direction I am taking my fan fiction in because I also think genres like that are boring, not to mention I would not want that much suffering to occur in a beautiful world like that, not even for the sake of trial and tribulation.

But the later seasons of the show Friendship is Magic drag too much, I cannot be engaged in a story when basically nothing interesting happens.

  10. Some MLP fans may not realize it but I think Fluttershy's kindness also adds to the adventure aspect of the show. Her kindness toward others gives her allies a reason to keep fighting for justice and peace. For instance, Rainbow Dash does not like seeing Fluttershy being taken advantage of, citation, episode Flutter Brutter. When love for friends gives you a reason to believe in helping others, that is inspiring and fits well into the ethos about team work and friendship. That is what I like to see in shows like this, not have characters just talk all the time as if they are at school.

  11. If there's any anime that is slice of life, don't bother recommending it to me. That is not a genre I am interested in.

As I said in my own fan fiction, "What's an adventure without the challenge?" though MLP FIM is not anime, Hasbro's story has good concepts I wish to integrate in my own fanfic. That is also a reason why I am going to leave the part of my OC and their phobia in the next life as a Pegasi, which will later be part of a test of courage when Luna helps my OC become more resilient. I've come to the conclusion that as unpleasant that would be to experience, it gives my OC something to work towards and prove loyalty to Equestria, and to not have everything handed to them, even being there in that fantasy world in the first place would be a privilege, not a right.

  12. I don't get why slice of life is liked by some people, to me it's like watching a soap opera, boring. There's a reason why superhero comics are popular. I critiqued Infinite Crisis because of how its inept characters ruin the story, and good did not truly win, not with countless universes erased to save one, the damage is irreversible for the sake of try hard edgy. However that doesn't mean I don't enjoy stories with action in them. I do share a similar personality trait to the fictional character from MLP FIM Rainbow Dash in a way, since I appreciate action and thrill. Daring Do sounds like the book I would read.
  13. I may not be fond of all of the fight scenes in Dragonball either, if that's one of the shonen anime you're on about, there are many others, I've not seen most of the other ones but I can tell you this, as corny as the jokes or one liners are sometimes, with characters of a story trash talking each other like it is WWE wrestling, I'd rather that happen from time to time than have a story where no adventure really happens and characters talk as if they are in a soap opera day in day out. There are certain types of story telling that make me roll my eyes and lose engagement with it. Western cartoons can have this problem with slice of life too, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic could have used more drama and adventure in its story, but I did like the characters in the story and the world building. I guess I have something in common with the fictional character Rainbow Dash, sort of. I'd probably like the Daring Do book if I read it for the same reason as she did, action happens, risks are taken to achieve a certain goal, and the reward for doing it is spectacular.
  14. MLP My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is a good series but it has problems, problems which cannot be ignored. Coming from somebody who also watches Transformers, including G1, I find this to be jarring, because at least in TF they acknowledge villains as an active threat so long as they are not in the custody of the heroes of the story. Megatron's existence is not suddenly ignored just because Optimus Prime and his allies need to find energon or go to some other planet. A villain does not need to have it all their way at the time to be a problem for heroes of a story.

  15. My main criticism of MLP FIM still stands today, not enough adventure, too much slice of life. I would have enjoyed the later seasons more if the show did not have the same monotony of a soap opera.

  16. Brainstorming different ideas to throw in for my MLP fanfic Like at the point when Chrysalis starts attacking, the timeline plays out differently to the show version or even the comic version. When she drains energy from citizens of Equestria, as she lets out a sinister laugh, she says something in creepypasta fashion "Stop squirming! I'm predator, you're prey, deal with it!" I'm not wasting time adding a plot with the human world at this part. Why Chrysalis would even bother with that I don't know, she has no use for humans, their world has no magic, they don't live very long so she would probably think humans are not fit to even be her slaves, and having a distraction would weaken her forces in Equestria. There is going to be more drama in my fan fiction version than Hasbro's official one. Don't get me wrong, slice of life is appropriate sometimes, but the lack of adventure and thrills did my head in and made me lose interest after the 5th season of the show, I had to look up the other parts to know what happened later on. Some people couldn't even be bothered to watch that much, I like action packed shows that show some villains are not redeemable and have to be dealt with swiftly and decisively. I don't watch shows just to watch people talk like it's a soap opera all the time, that to me is boring. Edit: I'm of the opinion some fight scenes are needed to deal with the monotony of the show while at the same time adding a sense of progression and realism in the story. that is part of the reason why I like Transformers series as well, they don't shoehorn the slice of life aspect on viewers too much, and they acknowledge the villains as an active threat so long as they are free to cause problems. With Queen Chrysalis in MLP it's like, every time she encounters a new magic to battle Mane Six with, outside of that she is hardly ever mentioned.
  17. I had a look at this profile someone made for fictional character Princess Luna. Her personal motto "face your fears" why doesn't that surprise me? yup, she would want others to face their fears and be courageous in difficult situations. But to be fair, she would be worth it.
  18. Just noticed there's different types of wedgies in The Mask Animated Series There's atomic wedgie, Post Apocalyptic wedgie, super wedgie, even full pretzel wedgie. Wow, quite a troublemaker isn't he?
  19. Storm King's death was more violent, we saw him get shattered to pieces after petrification.

I am okay, thanks. I was commenting on how I think Princess Luna in MLP FIM would be worth being courageous for, any friend who actually treats you well would be really.

I agree about Princess Luna 100%! :LunaMCM:

  21. They're so beautiful! I'd bow to them, definitely if I could. I like Celestia and Luna. <3

Two fictional characters I do see a lasting friendship happening if I were there with them.

  23. As Earthlings, we live once, we die once, bring happiness where you can but don't make somebody else's life hell while doing it.
  24. Fan fiction, with creative freedom, comes a dark side. I know you like Rainbow Factory however some of us find the idea of Rainbow Dash doing all this creepy, perhaps even, too much. Then again, I've been thinking over a part of my MLP fan fiction which others may find disturbing. Princess Luna using the nightmare realm to help my OC to deal with phobia by gradually exposing my OC to it over and over until they adapt. A test of courage would make living in that fantasy world meaningful. I may have to ask a friend to co-author that part in though. The difference is though, Luna would not be doing this to torture my OC, she would be teaching my OC to learn to face their fear, and not let it destroy their life or prevent them from living life to the full. I think this is entirely in character for Luna to do, given her behaviour in MLP FIM. Some people may be of the opinion that is cruel, but it's not, it is the opposite in fact. You know some people wish they could be Ponies in Equestria though it'll never happen for real, but they do need to be careful for what they wish for, because there would be tests of courage and loyalty in that world. If I were my OC in that fantasy world, would I be afraid of this outcome? yes, of course, anyone else would be in that situation, however sooner or later, if friendship happened in some alternate reality with her, Luna would probably ask my OC at least try, and I don't blame her. I did say I'd want my loyalty to be tested so this would be a good way to do it. My OC choosing not to put effort into something like this could come off as selfish I think, and I would not want to burden anypony there, others have problems too, both there and in the real world. Rainbow Factory fanfic on the other hoof depicts Rainbow Dash as a sadist, it's not a bad fanfic, all it is, is a what if story which can be fun for some people, however it is outside the bounds of what MLP official typically depicts, and it most definitely will be off putting for a lot of people, and not appropriate for children, obviously. When I watched Rainbow Factory, I hated RD in that one I got to admit, but that was the point I guess.
