I find that people like that tend to back down easily when you level with them and give solid reasoning, while not reacting aggressively. I usually just say "hey now, that's not cool" or something to that effect, and they become more open to changing their tone. They're usually the younger, ignorant kind of fan who's drunk on hubris and don't realize they're acting obnoxious, a stern talking to often fixes that. Unless of course they're thick headed, "swagfag" morons who have to hoist a sense of superiority on people, which is usually the bandwagoners, the dudes who jump onto the popularity train and just as easily jump off when they get bored of it. they aren't worth anyone's time. And my own opinion on MLD is that it was pretty emotional...Got a few tears out of me. I don't know if that's because it's well written, or that it used elements that relate to me specifically as a brony, tugging the shit out of my heart in the process. All I know is that I personally enjoyed the fic. Just wanted to say.

I haven't really met any overzealous fans. The most that I've seen that can be considered "bad" are people who are too opinionated for their own good, people who don't know how to ignore obvious trolls, people who are TERRIBLE at arguing their point, and people who assume too much. Pretty much your standard for what makes up the majority of stupid people in general.

Ugh, awkward moments.... I had one in my school cafeteria in college while waiting for my class to start. I over hear some guys talking about the show and characters, and decided to say hello. I asked them "you guys talking about MLP? I love that show!" (or something to that effect), and they just stared at me. After a moment of silence, I said "sorry" and sat back down at my original table. It was weird too, just the day before that one there was a bunch of guys talking about skyrim, and I got into that conversation like it was no problem, we talked and palled around like it was nothing. I guess that sort of boosted my confidence, and made me think talking about MLP would have been alright. All I know is I wouldn't have stayed silent if someone walked up to me, I would have been the least bit friendly and engaging.

Deconstructing Rainbow Dash - A critical opinion discussion
Dtox replied to chaoticpony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Sorry, I misread your comment, kind of tired here lol. I've only mentioned a few traits to act as examples. Aside from her tenacity, devotion, and having a backbone, she is also very capable and encouraging. I do acknowledge her flaws, such as her brashness, arrogance, and poor sportsmanship, but some of the flaws that you've listed are synonymous with others. As well, her development seems to be a bit slower than the rest of the characters (I feel pinkie pie has a slower rate of development, but she doesn't have much to develop since her character already has so many great qualities). Some of her development has also been poorly handled in season 2, but I think hurricane fluttershy (possibly my favorite episode) redeems that quite a bit. EDIT: I forgot to add, you said that applejack is the more "realisitc" character. Applejack has great morals and puts value in family, but the reason I mentioned RD's goals, her aspiration to shoot big and reach her dreams, is that those goals of hers make her realistic as well. And because she has such high hopes and dreams, she also has an ego to match, a trait that you find in many people who aim for big things. Sort of like rarity, whose high standards and "social elite" mentality made her think of the sister hooves social as uncouth and unworthy (something that she got over, obviously). -
Deconstructing Rainbow Dash - A critical opinion discussion
Dtox replied to chaoticpony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
A lot of people seem to focus on rainbow dash's negative qualities, like her arrogance and brashness, while overlooking her other, more positive qualities. I personally adore her (along with the rest of the ponies) due to her devotion to her friends, and how she's one of the only characters with a real backbone (which is evidenced up and down season 1 and 2, with how tenacious she is in getting things done). Her relationship with her friends is obviously important to her, since she's made great effort to improve herself, she's especially become more sensitive towards characters like fluttershy. People will pick out very general, negative qualities from every character (like rarity being snobby and a "bitch" and fluttershy being "too shy" and "wimpy"), and use them as the primary basis to hate that specific character, whereas I feel that each character has everything they need to be likable to anyone. You just need to look past those negatives, and focus on the positives. I'm willing to debate with ya, if you don't mind. This is sort of what I meant in my comment, you're looking over the qualities that make characters like rainbow dash really great characters (ALL of the ponies are great characters, I'm just saying). Like, for instance, you say she isn't loyal, when rainbow dash has been the most tenacious character when it comes to her friends. Prime examples, hurricane fluttershy, where she wouldn't take "no" for an answer to have fluttershy come out of her shell, and the last roundup, where she was the most devoted one to have applejack come home. She is also the one to ALWAYS jump into action. And they might be athletic, but applejack and rainbow dash both have different goals in mind, where applejack just wishes to take care of her family and run her business, whereas rainbow dash aspires to follow her dreams and shoot big. You know how you like rarity? well, there are people who dislike her for being "greedy" and stuck up, but completely look over all of the traits that, I feel, make her far more deserving of love, such as her affinity for art, and how she's giving to her friends while expecting nothing back. -
It gave me quite a bit to chew on in terms of perspective. Before I was sort of short with people, and would also be someone who would jump on the bashing train of various things (you know, the "stop liking what I don't like" sort of thing). getting into MLP really changed that about myself, being that I've made greater effort to understand other people's interests and quirks, and to make myself go "meh" at mundane crap.

I am a fan, as well as a contributor, of MLP fan art. I love just how much talent pours from the minds of artists within the fandom, so much so that it really inspired me to do my own string of fan art. I enjoy all aspects of the fandom, including the music, and I love discussing the show as well as playing on brony dedicated servers in games, but fan art is my primary domain.

Oh man, I giggled like a little girl reading those XD

That's honestly the primary reason I chose to draw them all (except for luna) as chaos, because the gods of chaos are easy templates to base things off of, and so I associated each with a god that best fit what kind of character they are. Rarity is artistic and infatuated with vanity, so slaanesh was her best fit. Couldn't really think of a unit to match her with without it being completely inappropriate (since slaanesh can get pretty XXX ), so I chose the most feminine/practical, the deamonette. I didn't think of it before, but pinkie pie could have also fallen under slaanesh, since she's gluttonous. But I was mostly thinking of pinkamena when I drew her, so I chose khorne, the blood god. Twilight was the easiest, since she's always wanting to learn, the primary thing she studies being magic. So a sorcerer of tzeentch was her best fit. I WAS going to draw applejack as something of nurgle, but I couldn't get it to fit, so I ended up making a normal plague marine out of her sketch. If I'm to ever draw the rest of the mane six as something from warhammer, they'll be units from the imperium, since I can't think of much in terms of chaos that would fit them well enough. EDIT: forgot to say, there's no specific warhammer game that I'm exclusively a fan of, I don't even play the table top. I'm a HUGE fan of the warhammer 40k world and lore, and will pretty much play anything associated with it (including the games dawn of war and space marine for the PC). If I could afford it, I would get the table top pieces, but mostly to collect instead of play with, and I would love to build/paint them myself.

I started a sketch of her as a sister of battle some time ago, but for some reason I just couldn't get back to it, I went on with other drawing projects that had to do with ponies.

There HAVE been marriages between people and certain things that they placed immense value in, such as a man who married his DS that had his AI girlfriend on, and another guy who married a pillow that had a image of a girl on it. But fluttershy is intellectual property, I wonder if one could claim copyright if someone were to try and marry her....
-
Well, if she was my WIFE or GIRLFRIEND, as in we both actually knew each other, acknowledged each other's feelings, and shared in them (and she actually existed), then yeah, I'd be offended. But fluttershy? She's a fictional character. If -ANYONE- has any right to feel offended by other people pairing her with others, it's her creator, lauren faust. All I would suggest is that you should not be so ready to relinquish that kind of information to people. If those are your feelings, then that's for you, not everyone will be willing to understand, much less accept, the feelings you have towards a character who doesn't exist.

I don't openly say "I'm a brony" unless someone asks me "are you a brony?" Not everyone knows what a brony is, and it's hard enough explaining the reasoning behind being a fan of "my little pony." if the fans are ever brought up in a convo, THEN I will use the term/explain it, relevance is key here. Anyways, the term exists, and so I use it, mostly because I enjoy the fandom and support it, as it's called the "brony" community. whatever negative connotations there are when it comes to a word are based on one's own point of view, and whether or not they let their bias or ignorance determine what they think and say based on it. I agree that we bronies and the furries are in the same boat, considering the nature of our fandoms, but we should not be confused as being the same, despite sharing many similarities. And "brony" is unisex, the "bro" part meaning "companion" more than anything. I personally feel that people can choose however they want to refer to themselves as, either brony, pegasister, or simply "fan of my little pony."

Some people here are overlooking certain details behind the idea to "convert." There is an abundant RESISTANCE that some people feel when getting into Friendship is Magic. How many fans can say, for certain, that they weren't the least bit reluctant when trying the show out for the first time? That they had small inclinations to -prevent- themselves from wanting to enjoy the show, thinking "I shouldn't/can't like this," due to certain stigma attached to the name "my little pony"? But once they get over that, after the initial skepticism and doubt, they get this feeling of "oh wow, I love this, how unexpected," which is followed by a desire to share and make their interest known to others, wanting to express to people "no no! you've got the wrong idea!" when getting people they know to try it. Not to mention the presence of a large, supportive community of fans, which rubs off a sense of confidence to certain members. This, sadly, is also the cause for much of the hype behind the show, with people feeling the need to over inflate some points of the show to win others over (just getting them past that initial hurtle to actually TRY the show), and leaving quite a few disappointed due to it not meeting expectations. I'm not saying that this is with -all- fans, but it's with quite a few. There is just a general confusion surrounding people's love for the show, for both onlookers AND fans, especially since many die-hard haters are now full blown bronies. Not to mention, we have no idea where the appeal for the show ends. We have fans of all ages and all backgrounds falling in love with it, many of which go through exactly what I described above.
-
Just gonna say, don't let it offend you. I know what you're saying and all, I understand the thinking behind it, but it's seriously something you should think past and try to get over. Just throwing in my own 2 cents.
-
Yeah, I knew the powerclaw may have been a bit non-canon, but I just decided to go with it. I forgot what it was going to be originally, I think a chain axe, but I decided to just make up some claw because I couldn't get the weapon to look right.
-
Oh, so you mean a whole choir of bronies singing together. I'd save it for something more worthwhile. The discord song is a very good song and all, but I don't think it calls for a whole choir of like a hundred people singing it. I would consider doing that for some special event, and with a song that's from the show/has more meaning to it.

Kind of an odd request... I know it sounds neat to have that many people doing that, but for what reason? and how would they do it (like as youtube posts?)

Wanted to share my series of warhammer/mlp crossovers that I did sometime ago. First up, rarity as a deamonette Next up is Twilight Sparkle as a chaos sorcerer Pinkie Pie as a Khorne berzerker (Mainly inspired by her "pinkamena" rendition) Another one with pinkie pie, this time as a chaos lord Next is Luna as sanguinias, which was originally going to be rainbow dash, but I got a rush of inspiration. Lastly, we have Vinyl Scratch as a Noise marine, pretty self explanitory. Hope you all enjoy.

Already had that prepared, because I thought the same thing when I finished the design, and I honestly should have posted it along with the transparent image. Here you are.

Sharing another piece of artwork that I made. A design of fluttershy. The lines were originally for a larger piece, with a scene/background, however I became lost and couldn't finish it for the life of me, could never get anything right. So I decided to extract the lines, cleaned them up, and came up with this. I might complete the scene at a later time, but so far I'm satisfied. Hope you all enjoy.

How many times has this video been tossed around already? Yes, there are some very annoying people in the fandom, this has already been established numerous times in the past. If you see fans acting hysterical/radial, then correct them, until then just enjoy yourself as a fan and stop bothering with the stupid things that people do. Because if you did, you'd drive yourself clinically insane trying to deal with every stupid/unbelievable thing that's come out of this fandom.

Hey everyone, just sharing this image of vinyl scratch that I finished today.

Moments in MLP that really touched you
Dtox replied to TailsIsNotAlone's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Off the top of my head, hurricane fluttershy The part where she broke into tears after having her flashbacks. I could feel myself well up inside, because I understood what she was feeling at that point, having gone through my fair share of bullying and feeling useless. Rainbow dash kicking at the ground added to that a bit, because she was disappointed in herself. Another touching moment was spike confessing to rarity as they fell in "secret of my excess." It was just REALLY cute how she acknowledged him and basically said "I know" before he confessed.- 135 replies
