I'm not bashing your ideal plot twist here, but I see that being very unlikely to happen at all. I mean, killing off three essential characters is kinda far fetched if you ask me. At the same time too. Imagine the tidal wave of uproar that would've happened if that was actually allowed in this kind of show. Angry parents, angry fans...the possibilities are endless. Conspiracy? Twilight would have to be responsible for the sun, moon, and Crystal Empire as well as her new role as Princess of Friendship! Shining Armor could maybe handle the Crystal Empire by himself if he wasn't crying over Cadence's death. All of the little girls would be devastated at losing 3/4 of their favorite princesses. Yes, he did kill off characters in the 80s, but if he did the unthinkable in this day and age, the Luna fans as well as the Cadence and Celestia fans would mutiny against Hasbro for pulling off a stunt like this. FYI, I am a BIG fan of all four princesses with Twilight being my all time favorite of course, and let me tell you, I was boiling with anger when Celestia, Luna and Cadence got sent to Tartarus. Made me want to go through the screen and give Tirek a piece of my mind. Sadly, if I did, I would have ended up in Tartarus with them as well. Just remember, that the only real casualty of Tirek's rampage is the Golden Oak Library as well as the emotions of a lot of ponies he had attacked. In fact as I've mentioned, before Megan arrived there was a queen of the ponies called Majesty, but she was killed by Tirek. I may have over looked that detail, but what about descendants of hers, or maybe even she could have taught them how to fend for themselves during the time she spent with them and now they could deal with any villain that arises with or without Megan. Firefly can't be the only pony ever to have opened that gate, for the gate to even exist means that some force had to create it, meaning some pony or creature had made it into the human world long before Firefly did. And who to say the bridge doesn't function the same way the elements did in that it will just find a new pony capable of opening it. I keep bringing up that fanfic, but the author basically states that when G1 Twilight becomes Nightmare, she closes the rainbow bridge and speeds up time in the pony universe.
