Ladies and gentlemen... in the nineties, there was an above average comedy starring one of my favorite actors, named Jim Carrey. He was one of the stars in a little film called Dumb and Dumber. And you know what, it is one of my favorite movies ever. Then they made the Dumb and Dumber cartoon. It was awful. Then Dumb and Dumberer. It was terrible. And now... I-I just have no idea what to think

Oh boy guys... First the Three Stooges, then, then Robocop... if this one fails, then I automatically declair animation as the superior form of visual entertainment. At least they have Jim Carrey in it, so... I guess that helps a bit.

I'm just going to say it now. It is going to be terrible, all the reviews will pan it, it will never stack up to the original and everyone will feel like they wasted their time in watching it. Because the sequel is going to miss the point of the original, try to squeeze in some political agenda, and in general just be an annoying watch.

Either that or it will be horribly mediocre and it will fade from public memory within the next few years.

I liked the original. It was fun. :squee:

I don't remember much about the cartoon. From what I've read here, that seems to be for the best.

Not sure about this new one. Um... I guess? I'll check it out. As @Banul said, I'm not sure if the humor will hold up 20 years later.

I can't tell if the sequel is trying to be over-the-top funny cuz they want to blow our expectations, but if the trailer's any indication then it definitely won't hold up.

If it ends up being good, it will be the first good film Carrey has made in...well, a long time. At least a decade, probably more.

Just checked. He had the Mask, Dumb and Dumber, The Truman Show, Man on the Moon. All enjoyable, good films. He had the Cable Guy and the first Ace Ventura film, which weren't awesome but were still entertaining. The last of those movies was Man on the Moon, which came out in 1999. Since then, he has been coming out with progressively worse crap, beginning with Me, Myself, and Irene, which was the beginning of his decline.

Still, he's better than Adam Sandler, who had Happy Gilmore and the Waterboy, and nothing else but unwatchable tripe, and Will Ferrell, who has yet to make a watchable movie. Or the endless team of Rogen, Hill, Hadler, et cetera, who keep coming out with identical movies.

We can take comfort in knowing it will be better than the prequel.

Is it retconed out now? I certainly hope so.

Last time Jim was in a direct sequel he climbed out of a rhinos ass. How will he top an intro like that?

Love the original.  The second one looked dumb.  This new one looks like garbage.  I've always been a big advocate for leaving well enough alone.  I generally hate forced sequels and overdone reboots and the like.

the second one was terrible and forced...this one doesnt seem as "DURRR lets make a sequel asap" but a well planned movie

Ah, well, at least that's something.  I do hate the whole "let's make a sequel asap" mentality.  However, I also hate the whole ressurect-and-ruin-a-long-retired-franchise trend.  E.g. Indiana Jones 4.  My policy is typically to pretend that bad sequels don't exist.  For example, if The Matrix comes up in conversation, I always say, "The Matrix, now THERE'S a great sci-fi movie.  Too bad they never made any sequels to that movie."  Or "Spider-Man.  That was a great pair of movies.  Too bad they never made a third one or any other Spider-Man movies."  "Daredevil?  He was a cool superhero.  Too bad they never made a movie about him."  That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
