REBAG102 9 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I have Aquaphobia, cannot swim, and am very paranoid about the icecaps melting and flooding the world Also I would like to know if anyone here also has Aquaphobia (I won't judge
Envy 6,162 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 (edited) I can say that I definitely have had a rather large fear of large body of waters in the past. Like I'd get scared whenever we'd pass by a big lake in the car. lol Or bridges, bridges are scary! I also can't swim. I think the last time I even tried would have been back in the mid to late 90s. I definitely haven't tried since I became a teenager. Edited June 13, 2014 by Envy Everything needs more woodwind!
SwigglySwiggly 358 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I had severe aquaphobia when I was a kid. Then I got swimming lessons, I didn't want to but asian parents man... Eventually overcame it and became a squad swimmer, totally (not) worth it. Click on the links!: Here! & Here! Check out my drawings! ^^^
Sunny Fox 5,950 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I have a mild case of bathophobia (despite the name seeming like a bad pun, it's actually the real term for a phobia of deep water or depths in general). That said, I'll happily swim out into the sea, and yet have a panic attack in a really deep man-made pool. I'm just funny like that. Happy minion of The Fabulous One! DragonAria 314 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I had aquaphobia too, but then my mom signed me up in a swimming course and my teacher teached me (really patiently and slowly) how to swim and now I'm really good at it. You should try see if there's something like this in your town it really helped me "Look and you will find the Hope amidst Sparkling Raindrops in a Sun Shower" ... as you may have guessed, I didn't come up with this sentence but randomly found it on the net. But I like it.
KoGy 187 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I used to attend swimming lessons but never really learned it properly and I forgot how to swim. Of course I'm glad I don't have to go to beaches anyway. I'm not afraid of water myself.

That One Techpriest You Used To Know 2,286 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I don't have a fear of water because I'm scared of the water. No, what I'm scared of is that the water will give me a severe ear infection which will lead to my eardrum completely detaching itself from my ear. Again. And then I would need yet another artificial eardrum and another hearing aid. While this is fixed by me wearing my specially molded earplugs, I have no intention of getting anything above my neck wet.
Kaneki 1,073 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I think I may have this sort of. I'm not afraid of water but I fear if I get in a deep part, I'll drown. It's probably the reason I don't know how to swim.

Kay Dreamer 884 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 In Australia, swimming classes are mandatory. At least, this is the case in WA. It makes sense when over 90% of your population cling desperately to the coastline. (Probably because the rest of the country is made of hot red dirt and bugs.) So nope, no fear of water here. You'd be hard pressed to find an Australian of my generation who is, to be honest. Most of us are competent swimmers because we've been learning since we were little kiddies. cuteycindyhoney 13,307 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I don't have a fear of the water, per say. Swimming pools are fine, even kiddie wading pools. I don't like the ocean though, for one reason...THINGS live in it! I don't mean just sharks. There are all kinds of nasty creatures swarming around in seawater! I'll hang out at the shore and maybe get my feet wet, but swim in the ocean? NO WAY! 1 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!

ReverseFaller 2,483 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 (edited) I wouldn't necessarily say that I'm afraid of water, but I'm not a fan of it. I can't swim which is one of the reasons I don't like large bodies of water. Even lakes freak me out. They're just so big, and deep! Don't even get me started on Oceans. Then there's all of the freaky little fish things that live in the water. Okay, maybe I am a little afraid of the water. Fluttershyfan94 5,742 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 Not really, I like the water and like swimming though sometimes I feel strange when on sea and imagining just how deep it is down below. But it is more that I'm fascinated by it, always been interested in things underwater. Since he body is mostly made of water (Yes, it is pretty obvious i was joking.) Isnt there a rare disease for water? Those unlucky enough to have it get alot of rashes and more symptoms. I feel sorry for those poor souls Oh yeah, there is! It's like the person is allergic to water. The most severe cases have people that can't bathe, or drink water, and can't even go out in the rain. It ends in deep red rashes, or hives. There are folks who are constantly sick because their own bodies are made of water. That being said, I love to swim. It's very relaxing, I've not ever really been scared of the water. One day, my mom just kind of took my floaties off, let me hang off the edge of my Grandma's pool, and pretty soon I just got sick of it and swam. I did however get really sick a couple years later. My cousin and sister were roughhousing with me (both significantly older than me and bigger at the time) and nearly drowned me. Thinking about it freaks me out a little. You ever relive panic? I got really sick, and I wouldn't get in the pool with them after that. The closest I've come to being scared is of the beach and ocean. Friggin' sharks n' shit, man. I don't wanna die.

You should try see if there's something like this in your town it really helped me The thing is that I did try to learn to swim by taking classes, but when we went to a deep end to learn how to say tread water the fear of sinking and drowning overcame the fear of learning how to prevent said drowning from happening while my brother is a great swimmer and me being the only person in my family unable to swim. A weird thing is I can't help to think that if I learned to swim I would enjoy it very much and do it whenever I can *sigh*
REBAG102 9 June 13, 2014 Author Share June 13, 2014 I must say I do enjoy going to places like waterparks and such but since they basically rely on you to know how to swim I can't go in water deeper than my height and I'm pretty short. I guess it's really more a fear of drowning than anything else That and the fucking ocean not for the creatures but it's so deep even someone who could swim could easily drown in the ocean
Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,302 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I do believe I have a fear of drowning. One of my earliest memories is of nearly doing just that. xD I've had dreams where I'm struggling to keep my head above water, and there's just nothing underneath me. I'm still quite unable to swim; I'm not even fully convinced of my own buoyancy lol. 2 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. Drowning nightmares I feel ya man One time I had a nightmare when I was in the middle of the ocean and a doppelganger pushed me further down further, posed as me drowning so a life guard would come to save him and not me I've also never came even close to drowning so my fear is probably a result of me being unable to swim Edited June 13, 2014 by REBAG102
Luxpony 10 June 14, 2014 Share June 14, 2014 I used to have severe aquaphobia as a child, derived from an encounter with a large jellyfish. It took a forced swimming lesson (via attempted drowning ) for me to get over my phobia to the extent where I am not utterly useless in the water. I am of the opinion that aquaphobia is actually rather common; it's a big body of water that you can possibly drown in if you can't coordinate yourself properly. It's kind of reasonable, as far as phobias go.
Odyssey 5,716 June 14, 2014 Share June 14, 2014 (edited) I used to take swimming courses a lot, but over the years, I had to leave because of schedules, which resulted in forgetting how to effectively swim. I wouldn't say I have aquaphobia, but I sure am not a fan of swimming than I used to be as a kid. I am very paranoid about melting ice that could lead to a worldwide flood, however. x_x I actually do know someone who is very aquaphobic. :< Edited June 14, 2014 by Sawk
