No. I don't think anyone is offensive.

I fail to see how that's offensive.

Please tell me you aren't serious. Because offensive humour is the best kind. APM was the best damn piece of content to come out of this entire fandom aside from the music.

I'd just like to point out that you being offended has no bearing at all on anyone else in the universe anywhere. You're offended - big deal (not raging at you, OP. I'm just pointing it out).  :squee:

Back on topic, no, nothing in this show offends me. I'm not easily offended.

It's not humour if it doesn't offend.

I think a more correct term would be "impolite", or "rude". ^^

But ontopic: I don't think anything in the show is offensive.

(Then again, I've only watched the first 2 seasons. ^^' )

Snips and Snails because they are a million times more stereotypical than Derpy yet they don't get censored, if that weren't the case I probably wouldn't care about them but have a burning hatred of them because of that.

do you mean offensive to the other ponies?  Diamond Tiara is pretty offensive to the CMC.  I think blank flank is kind of an insult in the world of ponies.  And when she called Granny Smith a kooky old lady, that was meant to be offensive to Applebloom and Granny Smith.

If I understood well what you meant by "offensive", I'd go with Fluttershy. She can become very aggressive:

Sure it was hurtful but it was Discord's magic causing disharmony amongst the CMC.

How did you know that Discord was already causing disharmony even before he escaped from stone?

As for offensive ponies, I think ponies can become mean but that is rare and quite limited in Equestria. It is an uncommon personality trait. I would also say that the meanest character yet might be Suri Polomare, exhibiting what is likely a near unheard of level of meanness. But I suppose that offensive can mean arrogant or some other term and other characters come to mind such as Trixie and Gilda.

I don't know why people in here are saying that offensive humour is great or that it's only funny if it offends. Merely causing others to feel slighted or belittled is not enough to merit comedy, unless you like to see other people to get hurt for no reason. I think offensive humour is only good when it is meant to offend someone who deserves it. To say that it is the witness of others' pain that necessitates hilarity shows both a lack of empathy and a lack of comedic creativity. There needs to be a reason for the offence.

On topic: I would say that none of the ponies we've seen so far on the show have been offensive, but many have been insulting.

I think I've only seen mean ponies in the show, not so many offensive ponies.

Mean: Suri Polomare, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, and Fluttershy in: Putting Your Hoof Down.

Also, Prince Blueblood and Trenderhoof.

How in the high pony heavens is Trenderhoof a mean pony? He was a nice guy who was blinded by a love for Applejack, and got taught a valuable lesson at the end by Rarity and Applejack.

Methinks it's because he was trying to be a waifu stealer like Flash Sentry...

How in the high pony heavens is Trenderhoof a mean pony? He was a nice guy who was blinded by a love for Applejack, and got taught a valuable lesson at the end by Rarity and Applejack.

Alrighty, then. WoT incoming.

1. He completely ignored and abused Rarity's obvious feelings for him. While it's one thing not to notice, he just continually shoved her aside for AJ with little to no remorse, and anyone with common sense should be able to know that it'd really hurt the one they're just completely ignoring and whatnot to go troll for ass somewhere else. And like I said earlier, it was blatant that Rarity had feelings for him, and he really just didn't seem to care about what happened to her and felt no remorse or didn't even seem to have second thoughts about just ignoring her obvious feelings about him.

He didn't care. He didn't care what he was doing to her, and that lack of caring is what set the whole plot for that episode in bound, as Rarity wanted to be noticed by him so desperately that she began acting like Applejack. HE did that.

He's also a extremely famous traveler, and his job requires a lot of interaction with people, so he should be able to have good social skills in order to be good at his job (which he is, or he wouldn't be famous for it) and that includes reading body language. If Rarity's body language wasn't super obvious, then I don't know what is.

Keep in mind he also didn't seem to care about her or her obvious feelings for him whatsoever when she met him at the train station, before he met AJ. So you can't chalk that up to being blinded by love, he was just an arrogant airhead who doesn't give a shit about people unless he finds them to have personal worth.

2. He also continually harassed Applejack, when it was clear she wasn't interested. He would not leave her alone, and borderline stalked the girl. It was very clear she didn't want him around, but he didn't care - he just kept following her and harassing her wherever she went, and the poor girl hid in a chicken coop overnight just to get away from him. That's going past just treating people like shit, that's being a freakin' creepy weirdo.

He also was going to force his way into living with Applejack, without even asking her or her family. He didn't care about that, he was going to live there uninvited and without asking permission. He gave her no since of privacy or respect in that regard.

I'm sorry, but that really comes across as not giving a shit about anyone but himself, in the ways he treated both Applejack and Rarity. He's a huge scumbag in my book, and I hate 'em.

Seriously, I hate him. I wish I had the opportunity to smack him upside the head with an aluminum baseball bat a few times. Teach that guy a lesson about not being a total douche.

@, it's obvious that you've thought long and hard about our dear friend Trenderhoof.

Let me address these two points the best I can by pointing out something: Trenderhoof is a famous traveler and he should have lots of pony-skills by talking and meeting all these ponies from around the world. He should know obvious body language and have been able to see that Rarity had a thing for him. He should have noticed that Applejack didn't like him at all and was actively avoiding him.

Thing is, he didn't. And it isn't because he's an asshole, it's because he didn't live up the occupation that he's in. He didn't have many social skills at all, considering he didn't notice Rarity's advances or Applejack's avoidances. Trenderhoof wasn't purposely ignoring them, it was clear he didn't realize the advances or avoidances existed at all. He honestly did not take a hint from Rarity or Applejack about how they each felt about him.

There was nothing to indicate this was a conscious decision on his part either. He was merely ignorant of either of their feelings, and it honestly wasn't an active decision on his part. He simply never picked up on any of it. If anything, Trenderhoof was being a bit ignorant of feelings because he's not good at picking up social cues, not because he's a suave asshole who was cruising by Rarity for a bite out of Applejack.

Also, I know you're speaking from what maybe a perspective where Trenderhoof wanted more than just... "romance", but I doubt he was just "trolling for ass", so to speak. Trenderhoof legit had a crush on Applejack, I doubt it was just her good looks that had him after her. He clearly fell in love with her Simple Ways and was infatuated with her personality. Ass was secondary at best.

As for him only being concerned about himself, he was just in Ponyville as his next stop to write about and didn't know anypony. It's hard to make that judgment call when his entire role in the episode was to be "The Pony that crushes on Applejack and ignores Rarity". I won't say that he's selfish, simply that he is terrible at picking up when somepony wants him and when somepony doesn't want him.

I just think it's hard to honestly put Trenderhoof at the level of Diamond Tiara, Gilda, or others when all the supposedly mean things he did was just him being ignorant of feelings rather than active malice.

I'm going to need proof to back up this claim - you don't get made famous in a positive light like he is for being terrible at something. At best, you're known for sucking at your job, but that clearly isn't the case for him.

One can safely assume he meets the required social skills to be good enough at his job to become renowned across Equestria for it until proven otherwise - people consider him to be a good enough traveler or whatever to make him a celebrity for it. He'd have to be pretty skilled and meet all of the skill sets required, and he didn't seem to be lacking in any social skills in his appearance in Simple Ways, but rather was dismissive and obsessive, respectively.

It's hard to see him not living up to his occupation and being renowned across Equestria for it - and to live up to his occupation, one would need the basic set of social skills, which is all that's required to pick up on AJ and Rarity's interactions towards him.

So unless you can prove to me with something more concrete than just saying that he didn't live up to their expectations, I'm going to have to believe he has the basic set of social skills at the minimum to be required to become famous for his career.

Also, I know you're speaking from what maybe a perspective where Trenderhoof wanted more than just... "romance", but I doubt he was just "trolling for ass", so to speak. He actually displayed signs of affection to AJ before even speaking with her. Remember that sexy apple scene? He didn't even know anything about her. So how could it be he was infatuated with her personality if he was infatuated with her before knowing anything about her?

As for him only being concerned about himself, he was just in Ponyville as his next stop to write about and didn't know anypony. Which, again, he's famous for what he does, and what he does requires the basic set of social skills to pick up on their body langauge - and that's just for what he does, let alone become famous for it. He displayed signs of disregard towards Rarity at the train station, before even talking to her and she was a puddle of fangirl for him. That was rather scummy on his part, I dare say, and his actions towards AJ only makes things worse.

Ignorance is bliss, but it really isn't an excuse to treat the others around you poorly, which he did - although I still have an extremely hard time finding him to even be ignorant, based off of his career and what it requires him to do, and how he's skilled enough to become famous all across Equestria for it.

But see, Ghostie, you aren't separating the career from the pony and you can't do that in this case. We know Trenderhoof is a renowned writer who sees trends before they happen... but now that I think about it, does that really require him to have a great set of social skills? All it requires is for him to recognize trends before they happen by gathering information. It doesn't require him to shmooze per say, especially since everypony already knows that he is an expert at calling trends. If anything, he makes up for his lack of social skills with his renown, making it so that the burden of being social is put on the ponies that he meets.

The fact is, what we know about Trenderhoof is what we saw, and what I saw wasn't a guy who was very good at speaking to other ponies. He literally never showed that he was any different outside of what we saw. You want to make it out like Trenderhoof has great social skills because he's well-known and his job might require one to have those great social skills. The truth is, we saw no evidence of this from his visit to Ponyville.

Thus, we are forced to assume that Trenderhoof does his job and achieves his renown through means other than being a great pony at socializing.

To put this in another light, take Boba Fett from Star Wars for instance. This guy is supposedly some super badass bounty hunter, but gets killed by accident by a blind Han Solo. I'm sorry, but it's not the job that makes the man, it's the man that makes himself. Trenderhoof's job as a writer and traveler don't define who he is, he defines who he is. And he's a traveling writer pony that just isn't that good at socializing.

Spike displayed signs of affection toward Rarity before even speaking to her as well, so unless you want to accuse him of just being after Rarity because of "ass", I don't think we should count that for much. It's just typical cartoon crush behavior to fall in love at first site.

As I said before, he really is just an ignorant pony who isn't that good at picking up on social cues. I think I made my point that just because his job says he should have them, doesn't mean he has them, and it's obvious from the episode that he isn't all he's cracked up to be.

So, if he had 0 clue about how other ponies' minds worked, how could he be famous for pretty much detecting the latest trends amongst the ponies of Equestria?

That being said, he did get to know her and his feelings of infatuation grew stronger because she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Trenderhoof didn't even try to get to know AJ, he really just followed her around and creeped on her. That's the difference between Spike's crush on Rarity and Trenderhoof's crush on AJ.

He doesn't need to pick up on body language to do that though. Perhaps his special talent is literally just him being able to detect these trends. Going to the episode itself...

Rarity: What?! How can you not know who Trenderhoof is? Trenderhoof is only the most amazing, handsomest travel writer to have ever traveled or written! Before Las Pegasus became an Equestria travel destination, he wrote about it! Before the culinary revolution in Trottingham, he discovered it! He knows what's going to be hot even before it's tepid! [giggles]

Rarity informed her friends that Trenderhoof visited Las Pegasus and wrote about how it was certainly going to be Equestria's next big travel destination. It actually doesn't require that he have social skills to call that. Maybe he visited Las Pegasus and saw the wonderful entertainment they had, saw casinos and big buildings, and just went off of that. He doesn't need to be able to talk to know this, perhaps he saw it and his special talent allowed him to safely say it would be big.

As for the culinary revolution in Trottingham, perhaps he visited Trottingham and tasted a bunch of different food there, and determined it would be the next big thing. He didn't even have to use social skills to call that. And if Trenderhoof wrote about some big fashion revolution, he could just have attended some shows or saw the latest fashion on the street to determine that. When you think about it, his job doesn't require him to be good at talking at all.

Initially, it certainly seemed that way :V He was going on and on about how beautiful she was before even speaking to her (which, is totally understandable) so he didn't know anything about her.

And Trenderhoof has been shown to not be very good at socializing, so that's probably why he just "creeped" on her and didn't catch a hint. And I don't count it as creeping on Applejack anymore than it was creeping on Trenderhoof when Rarity kept trying to get his attention either. Rarity knew that Trenderhoof didn't like her yet she kept trying, and she could tell that he didn't like her yet she blamed Applejack for it. Trenderhoof was the only part involved that didn't realize that Rarity had feelings for him and didn't realize Applejack didn't have feelings for him at all.
