Life Advice Suggestion

I know I have leaned toward the suggestion of another subforum before this, but I thought I should recommend this, if that's alright?

I noticed that you guys have had some alterations done for the life advice section of the forums, and have been worried about those who aren't going through such a good time right now.

I came here to suggest that the Life Advice section should be in plain site for all to see. Something like this:


I think that it should stand alone from those discussions, and stand in plain site on the front page of the forums. Something like I have pointed out in the picture.

Hopefully you guys get what I am trying to say, and consider this.

Too right. If the admins are altogether so keen about promoting the use and stressing the need to only ever use the Life Advice section when seeking support then I believe that placing a greater emphasis on its significance will definitely help out.

 

I'm all for it, it's surely something that should at least be taken into serious consideration.

I agree, I've already ran into people who did not even know about this section somehow, I think making it more visible would be a good step forward. Such section should be more visible so that more people will be aware of its existance and hopefully more of them will decide to visit it.

I agree completely. The staff constantly suggests posting in the Life Advice subsection, but having it contained in small type as a subsection makes the suggestion completely moot. There needs to be much more emphasis on the "Life Advice" section (maybe move it out of the Everfree Forest and into its own section?). Otherwise, the advice will travel through one ear and out the other.

When someone wishes to seek support and advice for such issues that are involved in the Life Advice section, it is important to make that section as accessible and as easy to locate as possible and I feel that such a change would be a grand step in the right direction.  Coupling this with an added focus on the Life Advice section due to the recent policy change on certain status updates and blogs makes such an idea worth serious consideration in my eyes.

 

Thank you Peachie for bringing this suggestion up, as I do feel it may be a very benefical change to look into and one that will help utilize that section to its fullest potential.  After all, we all want what is best for each other, to support and encourage, and this is one way to help make that happen.

If it gets a few more people some help and encourages people to post topics asking for help that some may deem "depressing" there instead of using status updates for that purpose than I am all for it.

I personally think this is a wonderful idea. Life Advice is a very important section and it should be easier to find it.
 
I don't know for sure, but looking in the ACP right now this looks like it'd be easy to change. Just a few clicks to change it from a subordinate of the Everfree Forest to a subordinate of Beyond Equestria itself, resulting in it appearing as its own forum fully displayed on the index.
 
It'd look similar to the Equestria Girls section, although that is in a different forum category: a forum directly subordinate to the primary category it is a part of without having any subordinates of its own.
 
This isn't something I could do without approval from other admins, but I'll bring this thread to their attention.
 
 
EDIT: After talking to the other admins about this, I've gone ahead and done it. Thanks for this suggestion!

EDIT 2: I've made a slight alteration to the Life Advice section that does this:

 
It doesn't actually affect the topics in that section at all, but it hides the "last posted by" information. This makes it so that people who don't want to see material in Life Advice won't encounter it on the index that way, and it also hides that information from guests and from members who don't have enough forum posts (5 or more) to access that section.
