gaming Any Doom gamers around?

The only good thing about this bitch, is that there's a way to humiliatingly kill her laughing, otherwise prepare for one of the hardest fights in the franchise, if not the whole gaming

One of my favorite things about Doom is the crazy otherworldly level design. I really hope Doom revisits some of this madness and moves away from the gritty military installation-styled levels, not that those are bad or anything (that was pretty much Episode 1 after all) but I definitely miss the ridiculousness of giant waterfalls of blood.

If anyone's playing on a source port, I highly recommend Deus Vult II.

There's a ton of other great maps at http://www.doomworld.com/cacowards/ sorted by year too.

Yup, altho' I generally liked DOOM 3, but that's just me. Other than that, I played a lot of RtCW.

Hohmaigawd yes. Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, I've played them all. It's amazing. One of the finest games on the planet. I'm super hyped for the reboot, as much as I disliked Doom 3.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I need to go play Doom.

Doom can't possibly end up worse than Duke Nukem Forever. I refuse to believe it. :(  That being said, I don't know if Gearbox ever intends to bring back Duke. DNF was such a bust (and everyone saw it coming) and they seem to be far more interested in bolstering their homegrown IPs (i.e. Borderlands) never mind about that whole Colonial Marines fiasco.

I don't expect it to be the best thing ever, but I do hope it to be a worthy addition to the series.

Actually, I kinda liked DNF, but that may be because I played it on PC after they added in the 4 weapon update, and the textures on the PC aren't as bad as the Xbox 360

I know the average Doom player is more fast paced, killing demonic assholes like badasses Rambo style, while listening to catchy and upbeat music. I'm not one of them, I preffer to take my time, turn the music off to make the games more atmospheric. Maybe it's because my first full experiences with the franchise were darker and more atmospheric, namely Doom 64 and Doom 3, which are kinda the black sheep because of that. It might also helped that Doom 64 had an accidental build up with it's final boss. Most of us had an awful bad experience the first time we faced the Cyberdemon (unless it's the Doom 3 one, he's a giant sized wimp XD). I had mine at the 17th level of Doom 64, he kicked my butt, BIG TIME. Once I FINALLY killed him, and finding out he wasn't the final boss, I've spent the rest of the game with dread, dread of finding ANOTHER cyber, or the actual final boss

You sound like the type of person who would LOVE the PSX version of Doom.

The PSX version of Doom features a more atmospheric soundtrack, and it's something I enjoy too. It's actually my favorite version.

Respect for Aubrey Hodges for composing such an amazing soundtrack. I'm puzzled why they decided to change the soundtrack, but it works wonders for me, I pick these over the original soundtrack. Too bad that I can barely hear the soundtrack in the N64 version (same scary and atmospheric style, same composer), but I can't unheard this one

very fitting for the very last level you spend outside of hell

It wasn't nearly "the worst game ever made" but there was absolutely no way it could live up to 12 years of hype.

I never understood some of the design decisions like limiting to two weapon pickups. Dropped the signature Duke pistol right away for some random assault gun that was dropped. Seemed wrong. Isn't he Duke Nukem? Why can't he hold 8 weapons like before?

On the PC version of DNF you can hold up to 4 weapons.

It's better then nothing.

Oh man, I remember playing the demo version of the original Doom on an old Gateway 2200 Solo laptop (I still have it under my bed) with my brother on an equally old Dell laptop, connected via parallel cable with "Direct Connect", a feature that Windows 98 had. Eventually we found a copy of Doom II that our uncle had and played it together as well Good times!

Then, years later, I played the demo for Doom 3... Such scary! Doom is perfect for when you want to get the pants scared off you.

Yeah, there was this huge backlash over it and they patched four weapons in. It wasn't the worst thing ever, just a strange "realism" design decision in a game that clearly isn't in the least.

I've played Doom completely to death, I don't really get much out of playing it anymore unfortunately, even with the ridiculous amount of mods out there. I'll probably feel like playing it again some time in the future though, I can never really just leave Doom forever.

I'm a bit different from most other Doom fans out there in that I really kind of dislike the original soundtrack. Some of the songs are so grating, especially on longer levels. They're really the kind of songs I can only listen to for very short periods of time. I like the PSX version soundtrack so much more.

I used to play the shit outta the first episode of Ultimate DooM when I was little since that was all I had back then. I learned the levels down to the still "sleeping" enemies. Sadly, I don't play it as much and thus have lost most of that knowledge. The latest I played was a run through of Ultimate DooM through Final DooM using the Brutal DooM mod, cause the only way to legit make DooM even better is to add shit tons of blood and gore. Oh, god is it so amazing.

That's all I really want in the new DooM. The old run and gun gameplay and stupid amounts of gore. I'll be set for life with that.

I hope we're going to see more of the new Doom soon and that it takes more from the original two than three. I know we're not going to see Doom 1/2 with modern graphics, something like that wouldn't simply wouldn't sell, and that makes me sad but I am open to new features and additions, so long as they don't turn it into another run of the mill military shooter.
