The Equestrian Phylogeny Book

Here, we will discuss the history of species in Equestria, and I will edit this post to reflect the current widely agreed phylogeny sorting. This is a work in progress, and I have lots of studies. I will add new content in my free time.

The evolution of magic.

The molecular mechanisms.

Magic, in it's essence, owes itself to very simple moleclar mechanisms. Within all creatures that are magical, there are two proteins, named Magicia A and Magicia B. In an endothermic reaction, they form a very high energy, unstable bond with eachother. When that bond is broken, great surges of energy are released.

Unicorns, for example, can direct the sudden surge of energy to external sources.

How it evolved.

Magicia A&B first appeared within the Fire Bird (Avia Ignis). It was first used as a defence mechanism against the high amounts of energy in the enviroment. The proteins would soak up the energy, before it damaged the bird. There was a constant danger that the proteins would break apart, dealing sudden damage to the creature's cells.

The pheonix, on the other hand, solved this problem by using the energy accumulated to rejuvenate itself after great illness.

Dragons were the first to use the high amounts of energy to manipulate the external enviroment (with scorching flames). But, until Draconequus, the use of magic was never precise. Draconequus revolutionized the use of magic, by evolving mechanisms to precisely direct specific amounts of energy output to a certain area.

The civilized equines (Equus Civiliza) were intruiged by the possibility of harvesting magic. They first performed gene-splicing experiments on various species, most belonging to the genus Taurus. Most of the experimentees were killed shortly thereafter, but a few escaped. The scientists found out that the Magic protein tends to accumulate within keratinous tissue. That is why the new race of magic using equines were given horns.
