This is no surprise to me, instant ramen is heavily processed and many instant ramens contain Monosodium Glutamate or MSG as it is more commonly known which is one of the worst food additives out there for you. MSG is a basically an artificial salt that is highly concentrated it is very bad especially for people sensitive to high sodium foods and has been known to cause abnormally fast heart beats in some people sensitive to it.

I've only eaten instant ramen once in the 18 years that I've lived so far. I think I'll be fine.

Is it normal for college students to live off of ramen? Since I've been in college, I've never eaten it once. I never really cared for the stuff.

Yes, it is a very common food staple for college students and many others who are on a fixed income. Ramen sells out very quickly in the grocery store I work at, especially when it goes on sale and a major part of that is because the store I work is located in a very poor neighborhood.

Well, I sometimes eat ramen when I'm lazy and there's no food in the fridge. Mix it with butter and soy sauce and you've got the best thing in the world.

Eh, I hate ramen so nothin to worry about for me. When I'm too lazy to make anything I'll just have toast or cereal or something. The craziest I've gotten with actual cooking this summer was mostly pancakes and once I made chicken in coconut milk.

@Boy5400

I knew it was bad because of sodium but dang i didnt think long term damage.

The key word is moderation, as long as you are not eating them everyday and still keep a healthy lifestyle you should be good. It is not like that just eating noodles will kill you.

when i have a bit of extra cash my diet consists of apples, chicken, rice, and carrots. But recently they have been getting a little out of hand with the ramen cuz of lack of food funds.

I dunno if I'm very willing to believe that.  I mean, they straight up said they don't know why the results came out the way they did, so it could be a coincidence from other shared factors (Also, the study sample could use a bit of work as well.  I mean, even if the results were irrefutably due to ramen consumption, all we can say for sure is that these effects are present among those who would go in that sample, in this case South Koreans).  Correlation does not prove causation, and I think further examination is needed before I'll be cutting ramen out of my diet.

The more processed a food, the more instant a food, the worse it usually is for you.  Basically, the more convenient, quick, and cheap it is, the worse it is for you.  Eating healthy is expensive, which sucks.

It is, but much of the reason it is is because of the monopolies that the food companies have thanks to all the kickbacks and corporate welfare and how all the regulations are skewed so that they can get away with almost anything while actual organic food companies have to jump through all these hoops just to have their food classified as "organic". Without all of this eating healthy would probably be much more affordable, eating in general would probably be more affordable.
