Just a general topic: why do you guys love Sunset Shimmer?

 

Because she represents something that I think is very important in humanity, and is also something that needs to be taught to our young audiences.

 

REDEMPTION

 

Sunset Shimmer represent an individual who made a serious mistake and has done what she can to make things right. The road wasn't easy and she could've easily gone back to the dark side or become extremely depressive. She didn't though. Sunset did the hard thing; she stuck by what she believed in and her star shone brightly for it.

 

Yeah, she had some help from her friends, but in the end it was Sunset herself that made the transformation, and that is why I really admire her as a character.

One thing that used to get posted a bit about Sunset Shimmer is that she was not a very good villain.

 

I think that once Rainbow Rocks came out it became clear why that was. If they were always planning on making her into a hero, they couldn't really let her get too stuck into the role of evil villain.

Yeah, but they even said in the commentary that they didn't plan to make a 2nd Equestria Girls, so they didn't expect to expand her character past "ok, shes good now, bye"

On different note of her being a villain, the comic the fall of sunset shimmer was pretty good for sunset's character, but she was way too poorly executed in equestria girls 1 that after reading it I was really disappointed what they did with her in that movie. A few hundred teenagers is kind of whoopdy doo for planning to conquer anything. Oh well, she's a pretty amazing protagonist.

Yes, but there are a lot of people involved in making a film. Although there may have been no official plans, it's possible that some of the writers and/or producers had hopes for a sequel, and wanted to at least allow some scope for her character to develop into one of the good guys.

Presumably once they'd gone through the portal they would have become ponies, and about a third of them would have been likely to end up as unicorns.

 

If she'd managed to enslave the school staff as well, then she'd have at least two alicorns in her army too. (I say at least because it's possible Cadence might work at the school, even if we've not yet been introduced to her character in the human world.)

 

It might not have been the best possible plan to take over Equestria, but it might have been the best one she could manage with the resources she had at her disposal.

And just because they're unicorns doesn't mean anything, they have no knowledge of spells whatsoever since magic doesn't exist on that level in the human world, not i said on that level. Not only could twilight not use magic obviously but even the dazzlings said that there wasnt equestrian magic. Same goes for the alicorns.

 

She could've done better, if the element was as powerful as they said it was, she could've gotten modern weaponry, although most of it requires thumbs and such to use, but she still couldve recruited more, but time was also of the essence, but having more and a plan is much better than going in and hoping for the best.

The Rainbow Power forms of the ponies have only been shown so far in one episode - the Friendship is Magic season 4 finale. And Sunset Shimmer doesn't appear in that episode - indeed, she has not yet been in any episode of Friendship is Magic.

 

There's some pretty good fan art of rainbow powered Sunny though...
