I wouldn't touch the game regardless, Turtle Rock has fallen into the DLC trap and the game includes a cash shop. In a full-priced retail game.

Yeah.  I'm gonna become more picky when it comes to buying games.  The only games I plan on buying day 1 are Dragon Ball Xenoverse and MOrtal Kombat X.

So there's a 4GB GTX 750 Ti now. For reals.

why.

Seriously though, I don't care to much since I plan to grab a 970 at some point.

I'm not gonna be upgrading until the 1070 or 1170 come out. Or I may switch to AMD.

And you sure your FX won't bottleneck a 970? It may have 8 cores but all are about as powerful as a Core 2. Great for 2006, terrible in 2015.

it doesn't even hit 60% that often while the 750 maxes out, so I should be good.

Also no, the FX-8xxx are equivalent to a higher-end i3 or lower-end i5 as far as my research has shown. BF4 can't even go further than 60-70% on one core(and even that isn't constant)

I have seen the FX bottlenecking a high-end card (R9 290) in action before, in Serious Sam 3: BFE. Owner of the FX is now really considering switching to Intel.

So there's this old Dell laptop that we revived with a new hard drive and Windows 7. I have been using it as a backup when our main laptop is being used by someone else, and it's been really held back by its 1 GB of ram. Everything will be running fine, but as soon as I get close to the RAM limit everything will go to hell and freeze for several minutes. This can happen with just a few tabs open or a single youtube video open.

I decided to try installing a lightweight Linux distro on it (LXLE) to see if it would help, and oh boy it did. Now I can have multiple tabs open or a youtube video and the RAM usage doesn't go above 50-60 percent, and everything just runs so much faster. No more freezes due to low RAM availability.

The moral of the story is, if you have a crappy laptop (or desktop) running Vista, 7 or even XP laying around, try installing a lightweight Linux OS on it. You may be suprised by the performance increase and it may become useful as a general internet device.

You can't upgrade the RAM? Is it a netbook?

I don't know if I'd count SS3, it(along with the other game on the engine, Shadow Warrior) is pretty damn poorly optimized, especially with the physics effects on high.

hmm. I'll have to try out Shadow Warrior on my PC later on, see how it runs on Intel.

Keep in mind, I've also done research and seen several sources that say a FX-8320 won't bottleneck a 970(or even a 780ti, which is a bit faster)

You can, but as an immediate and free solution this is working wonderously. I may upgrade the RAM soon, but then again I will probably be building a gaming desktop or buying a gaming laptop in the somewhat near future, as none of the computers we have are capable of much gaming.

More RAM would definitely help. Though building a custom rig would be a better option, provided you have the money. Also, a gaming laptop would probably not be the best option, because eventually it won't keep up with future games, as well as not lasting as long, considering they tend to get hotter. You'll also save money in the long run.

I paid $1250 for my rig, and the only thing I could think of needing to upgrade is the GPU sometime in the near future, as well as adding an SSD for my OS, and maybe games that could benefit from it.

I don't plan on getting anything CPU-wise from AMD, seeing as everything I've heard about them hasn't been the best. Unless Intel starts coming out with crap that can't run, and AMD starts making CPUs that are actually good for high-intensive workloads and applications. Not saying I'm an intel fanboy, because then I would go out of my way to bash AMD, even though I have a GPU of their's, but still.

AMD is one of the best CPUs. The only thing I don't like about them is the sheer amount of power they demand and the immense heat they produce.

Some AMD dual core processors produce more heat and consume more energy than some Intel quad cores, and they aren't even half as strong as their Intel counterparts. Sometimes, it is even difficult to keep them cool enough for the computer not to shut off.

This is mostly why I won't get an AMD CPU. I might end up doing stuff like recording in the future, and intel is really good for that.

How come the "Nvidia Optimized Settings" like to do weird shit?

I was looking at the settings for Absolution and turns on a bunch of extra shit(like Ultra Shadows) at the expense of setting the actual rendering detail to low.

Probably mentioned this before but I plan to buy new GPU this year. Currently have GTX 670 with 2GB VRAM. Should I consider upgrading to one with at least 3GB or this not going to benefit me much? My current setup is 1920 x 1080 and 1680 x 1050 though I only use the 1080p to game, and the new GPU is to last at least two years..

From what I've seen, 2GB is still good right now for most games, though, if you want to future-proof your build, than they have some good cards with 4GB. You could honestly get something like an R9 280x with 3GB, or if you're willing to spend a bit more, the 290x is a good option with 4GB
