Maybe they played the "We were forced to do it " card.

I think the writers should write off Snips and Snails altogether. The only defining trait they have is their representation as stereotypical idiots. They are not interesting in my opinion,

Sunset Shimmer was the mastermind and they tend to get the most flak. It's her face and name written on all the bad stuff that happen in EG movie.

 

There's barely any witnesses to Snips and Snails actions in the movie. The only major thing they did out in the open was the demon thing.
