Ok so.....I was talking to someone last night about my laptop not working and they were saying to go to Best Buy, Staples, Office Deput....etc....and we said that we normally get our computers at Walmart because they're cheaper, and they proceeded to inform us that Walmart gets lower end computers (not as good of quality). We've gotten my previous computer there before which lasted for seven years (and we may be able to fix it/get it fixed), my mom also got her computer there a few months ago and has not had any problem with it so, I was wondering if this is true or not.

I know a lot it depends on the brand and not the store, but I also know that different stores get different stock, it makes sense that Walmart would or might get lower quality laptops as that's not what they specialize in, but I don't really know for sure, as I said before, we've gotten computers there before and have had no problem with them, then again, we got my laptop there seven years ago so, that might've not been the case back then.....

Idk for sure if I'm going to need to get a new computer or not, hopefully not but I just wanted to ask here and get some opinions that way I can be prepared for where to purchase. (someone else said they do too). We've never had a problem with their computers before so, I don't think buying one from somewhere else would be necessary, that's just what we were told.....

Also, this person does work with computers so, he may know for sure, or that might just be his opinion. don't know for sure. And just for the record, someone is going to be looking at my laptop next week sometime, but I just figured it would be good to post on here since I know a lot of you guys prob know a good amount about electronics. Thanks!!

Normally a large department megastore like that is going to stock lower end electronics because those sell for cheaper. And the cheaper they are, the more they can sell.

In terms of actual quality, these laptops are coming off the same assembly lines as those destined for other stores, but Wal-Mart receives specific lower-end configurations with different part numbers to sell at a lower cost. Best Buy, for example, has BB-specific ASUS laptops that are exclusively available from them. I imagine it'd be the same for many other laptops and products as well.

Up until their sale in 2009, Nike used the Starter brand to sell in Wal-Mart stores to avoid damaging the premium cachet associated with its own brand. In terms of clothing, yes the quality is definitely lesser because WM is notorious for strangling their suppliers to meet the very lowest costs or get dumped.

I work at Wal-Mart and we usually get some good brands in. If you want a good laptop for the price, go with HP. We get a lot of them and they're reliable. Whoever told you that is wrong. Yes, we get cheaper stuff generally, but it's not all low quality stuff. You won't find MSI or CyberpowerPC, though. And we certainly don't sell Macs.

I don't buy anything at a store in which you can walk into. Any "cheap" store does not offer much for "beefy" tech, and a lot of it is the cheaper/poorer quality stuff. Not all of it is bad, just most. Now that the internet has taken over "higher" end stores such as Best Buy, not only can I get beefy tech, but also at immensely cheaper prices!

For someone who isn't too deep into tech, I guess it doesn't really matter in regards to computers whether you go to Walmart or Best Buy. It's the bells and whistles that will make the difference there (like warranties and such).

For me, I go to the internets (Newegg)....

Actually, the computer I am on right now is 7 years old. Got it at Best Buy, the cheapest computer they offered. Still kickin' amazingly so....
