Nearly forgotten/underrated games?

There's always that game that got the poor reviews, but you decided to play it anyway, and you actually realized that it was not really that bad as the reviews claimed it was. Or, perhaps a title that flew under the radar and didn't get the attention it should have gotten.

Post your gems here! Here, I'll post mine just as an example.

Rogue Trooper

This intro tells all that needs to be told - imo, one of the most underrated TPS ever:

Metal Slug, the whole series.

I swear, NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT METAL SLUG.

XCOM: UFO Defense.

Quick thing: F*** ENEMY UNKNOWN (2012). UFO Defense is the original XCOM that people should know about, and it's the greatest. E.U. is just a bad modernization that is too easy.

MegaMan 7.

Just like how Enemy Unknown overshadows UFO Defense, MM2 overshadows MM7. Personally, I think 7 is the best in the classic series.

Whiplash/Fatal Racing.

This was my favorite racing game growing up and probably my favorite racing game, period.

Nearly forgotten? Try completely forgotten. The game killed PCs of the day and only ran like that if you were lucky enough to have a 3Dfx Vooodoo. Spent so much time on that game... and this is probably going to be the newest mention of the game online aside from Youtube videos in the past five years or so.

X-Kaliber 2097

A pretty cool side-scrolling Platformer/Action-Adventure where the boss battles are like fighting games. Pretty cool game.

Tyrian 2000

Like customizable Raiden. Free on GOG right now, so pick it up. Pretty difficult, especially on Lord of the Game mode, but lots of fun.

Mother

Lot's of people know what Earthbound is, but far far less seem to know it's part of a trilogy. Mother is the first game in the trilogy, for the Famicom. It's hard though, so be prepared to lose a lot.

Dynamite Headdy

Everyone loves Gunstar Heroes on the Genesis, but the same company made an arguably much better game in Dynamite Headdy. More platform focused than Gunstar, but with equally crazy levels and boss battles.

Panel De Pon

Known as Tetris Attack, Planet Puzzle League, or other names outside of Japan, this quickly became one of my favorite puzzle games. I much like the DS version of it, where the touch controls make the game a vast improvement on an already steller game.

SimPark

A semi-educational Maxis game. You had to manage your own state/national park, but not just financially. You had to control the tree and animal population, keep the ecosystem in check, and various other things. A Game I hope to pick up again sometime.

Azure Dreams

A weird combination of Rogue, Pokemon, SimCity and a Dating Sim. You take a monster to a tower, and in classic rogue style you fight to the top. When you're not fighting to the top of the tower, you're investing money into your town and attempting to get some Poon-tang. Has a Gameby Color version for those who can't do PS1 emulation, which is a good game in itself.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl

The Twisted Metal series itself is very popular and well remembered, but Small Brawl seems to get forgotten. Small Brawl was the classic Twisted Metal, with a relatively Kid-Friendly twist. Had some of my favorite levels in the series, outside of Black, and I love the final boss.

Minicar Racing

Was a very obscure Rock and Roll Racing-like game that I thought was actually better than Rock and Roll Racing itself.

Peasant's Quest: a game where you take control of young protagonist Rather Dashing to defeat the mighty dragon, Trogdor! It's pretty good, but not many people I've met have played it or have forgotten it.

Pokemon TCG for the gameboy colour: defeat 10 gyms, defeat the elite four and then your rival. This time though, with Pokémon cards!! Seriously though, it's a really well designed game and I had a lot of fun with it. I went to the trouble of replacing the internal save battery on my cartridge and play it sometimes on my gba SP.

Custom Robot (GameCube): utter brilliance. You build a robot out of a body, legs, bombs, homing missiles and guns and use it to fight against other people. The game's plot starts out with your character just looking for a job, you work with a bunch of bounty hunters and it eventually leads to you fighting a killing machine that destroyed the entire planet in the games lore.

What's even cooler is after the story, you can play through extra missions to unlock the extra strong parts used against you in the story. And yes, this includes the full set of that super strong robo I mentioned that destroyed the earth. How awesome is that? That idea needs to become the basis for an online game. I'd play the hell out of it.

Man, I don't hear anything about Willow for the NES. I mean, it's hit hard by not aging too well but at least it's a licenced game done right in a time where those were very hard to find. Back in the day, there weren't many action RPGs that made it to the states and this was a surprisingly good one. I have a couple other games that's overlooked/underrated that I can't think of right now.

One that instantly comes to mind is Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. That game is so cool. It was friggin' Jurassic Park Tyccon! I honestly do not see how there is no sequel to that or how almost no one seems to remember.

I also have to shout out to Glover as well.

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2. Arguably the best RTS on consoles and shows that RTS's, actually deep ones, can work on consoles very well. Still, no sequel nor other RTS console inspirations.

Rockstar's Table Tennis. One reason, the couch multiplayer was pretty fun.

Stubbs the Zombie. I did a Turbo review for this explaining my reasons but this game was so fun and unique despite its shortness. I would be play with no sequel I guess if we could download it from Xbox live. Oh wait, we could. Now we can't.

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie The Game. One of my favorite movie tie in games and if remember correctly, it was a very well done platformer. Me and a friend had a blast with it. It would be pretty cool if we could download it from PSN. Oh wait, we could. Now we can't.

Tombi/Tomba for the Playstation.

Jesus Christ I remember playing this game and loving it when I was younger, then I just suddenly grew tired of it. I hear about it years later, and I've hardly seen anybody talk about it, which sucks because it's probably the greatest 2.5D platformer I've ever played.

Pac-Man World (1 and 3)

Everybody I know has played Pac-Man World 2. It's a great game, and I really do enjoy it, but nobody seems to remember it's predecessor or its sequel. I don't have a lot to say about them, they're both great 3D Pac-Man adventures, so go check them out if you haven't already.

I swear nobody seems to ever talk about Contact for the Nintendo DS. I don't know why, I guess they trusted the people that can't rate games? IDK.

It's intuitive level-up system was what really made the game. It leveled up singular stats with their usage, instead of all of them in one. Also, the storyline was fairly good. I absolutely adored the music, (nothing compared to the etheral music of Disgaea), and it's combat system was good.

(I swear the easiest stats to level-up in that game were Wisdom and the Weapon stats)

Dr. Muto was hella crazy and weird. I actually really enjoyed that game just because of how it played out. I've never heard anyone ever talk about it.

I remember tomba too, from what I know, the company who made it went out of business and it's become rare.

that might be why it's not talked about much.

Also, I think one game that could have potential is a game called "Sub Rosa." It is an online multiplayer game that is great to play if you're a fan of team/squad based games like Counter-Strike. Also, it is being developed by one guy (Crypticsea) and himself. Check the gameplay out:

Also, it can be played on a toaster because it has low resolution textures and low quality models. C'mon, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE PLAYING IT.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

This game needs more love.

I'm pretty sure Battlefront 2 is one of the most beloved/popular Starwars games out there

Speaking of underrated Star Wars games, Star Wars Battle for Naboo, Starfighter, and Jedi Starfighter are just as great as their Rogue Squadron brethren yet they get no where near as much attention

Jedi Power Battles are also pretty solid
