Rock Farm: not as crazy as it sounds

At first, I thought that was just Pinkie Pie being silly. However, after more thought, a rock farm does sound like it would have a practical use in this world. Dragons eat rocks and "age" them, so ponies might need rocks to lure dragons to places where they won't cause trouble.

Well actually if you haven't realized, rocks are used for construction, so it does make sense in a way, but sill rocks can't be "farmed" just mined.

Although my organic gems theory that says that gems are actually protist beings that reproduce would aplly to rocks aswell

Considering you can find gems the size of your fist 2 inches under the ground in Equestria, I'm sure a rock farm would have some sort of practical use in their world

This came up on the Ask The Pie Sisters tumblr. Their answer, in short, was that magical "currents" flowing through the air can grow minerals found in rock. When rock is arranged in such a way to take advantage of these currents, ore within them can be grown ("farmed") at a fast enough rate to make a profit. That's why farm tasks included "rotating rocks to the east field," because the currents change with the seasons.

Sounds legit to me.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

In a world where all kind of colorful gems could be find easily under the dirt, naturally growing rocks and minerals is the best theory

Besides, how the hay did you use the rocks to lure the dragons?
