The sound of somepony slowly walking towards the camp and mumbling was heard not far from the fillies.

 

"Focus... Focus..."

 

A box about 2/3 the size of Apple Bloom slowly floated through the camp a few inches of the ground with Blitz walking right behind it, looking focused and sweating slightly from the concentration she had to put into this. It was a bit harder than normal to move this, because she had taken some of the iron with her, and whilst she was good with her magic, it still drained the more there was to lift. Combine that with a few fragile things in there too and she really had to make sure not to mess around.

 

It wavered a bit when she saw the CMC, but it kept near enough, and when she was on the outskirts of the camp that was seat up, a good distance from where the campfire area, and then let it go down before the glow fainted on her horn and Blitz was left to take a few deep breathes and wipe the sweat of her forehead. Hopefully, this bother wouldn't be for nothing when it was night and she had the time to work.

 

After a bit she turned to the others.

 

"Phew. Hey everypony, anything I can help with?"

Grey smiled, "Don't worry Brownie!" He replied cheerfully, "There aren't any ghosts near Ponyville. Besides, even if there were, my dad and Pinkie could probably get us back into town before a ghost could float an inch towards us!" Grey assured his friend. "Though if you think you'll still get scared of the stories, you could always cover your ears or excuse yourself to the tent." He finished, patted Brownie on the back.

Storm grinned, "We're pretty much set up..." He replied thoughtfully, hiding a grin. "The only thing left is to light the fire and makes some s'mores... You think you could light the fire for us and make a few s'mores for yourself Blitz?" Storm asked, smiling at the explosive-loving filly. "All you need to do is put some embers on the tinder in the firepit."

Brownie returned the pat by doing the same to Grey's back. "Thanks, Grey," he said. "That's good to know. Plus it's great that we have each other's backs."

Apple Bloom ruffled the tinder on the firepit, then stepped back. She looked over in Blitz's direction and gave a whistle. "We're ready to start the fire when you are, Blitz," she called.

"Sure thing Apple Bloom."

 

Blitz wandered over there and knelt down before the fire so the tip of her horn could touch the kindling beneath that had to catch on fire, then focused all she could to make the little ember appear, just long enough to help things start, at which point she pulled slightly back and started to blow to get the fire to keep going. It wasn't long before the kindling looked like it was going at it well and she could pull back before she did something stupid like set fire to her mane again or, Celestia forbid, tripped and fell into the camp fire. Reeeeeeally didn't sound like a good thing, but she knew she could be a bit of a klutz at times, and didn't wanna test how bad it could get.

 

"Okay, fire's on and nopony's on fire, good. Might be a little before it catches on."

 

She looked at the flames as they started to grow, transfixed a little at the consuming fire eating away slowly at the wood and beginning the first stages of charcoal making.

Apple Bloom and Brownie stood near the firepit as Blitz worked her magic. With the evening chill settling in, the two of them walked near the fire and began warming up their hooves. Sundae and Babs peeked out of the fillies' tent and grinned when they saw the fire was ready.

 

"All right!" Apple Bloom yelled. "Let's start roasting some marshmallows!"

Storm and Pinkie began handing out marshmallows on sticks with smiles on their muzzles, "Careful not to burn yourselves getting too close to the fire." Storm warned.

 

"Or by trying to eat the marshmallow too soon." Pinkie added.

 

"And most importantly...."

 

"Have fun!"

 

Scootaloo and Grey immediately snatched two sticks, one each, in their little muzzles and ran towards the fire to begin roasting.

Blitz grabbed a stick as well and watched Scootaloo and Grey to get the basics of it in check. Seemed to just be sticking the mellow into the fire, then... Not try to burn it, she supposed? Few things that really tasted good when utter toasty, so she'd go with that for now. For the right color and such though, she'd watch how the others did, then go by their example more or less, at least for now.

Apple Bloom waited for her cousin and Sundae to emerge from the tent before grabbing one of the bags of marshmallows and giving the two of them and Brownie some sticks.

 

"All right, you city dwellers," she spoke to them. "Here's how y'all roast marshmallows!"

 

She jammed one marshmallow on her stick, bit down on the thick end and waved the other end it over the flames. Before long, the marshmallow caught fire and Apple Bloom raised the stick, lowering it with her hooves. With a mighty blow, she put out the flame, leaving a charred marshmallow.

 

"Isn't it burnt now?" Brownie wanted to know.

 

"Nah," Apple Bloom replied, shook her head. "It's now just right for s'mores." She then turned to her other two friends. "Scoots? Sweets? Do y'all have the chocolate and graham crackers?"

Scootaloo shook her head, indicating a 'no' as she intently watched her marshmallow.

 

Sweetie Belle made a similar movement of her head before she gratefully took a stick and a marshmallow from the two hyperactive adult ponies and ran over to begin roasting them.

 

"I've got the chocolate right here!" Storm exclaimed, pulling out a rather large bag of jumbo chocolate bars to complement the gigantic bag of marshmallows.

 

"And I've got the Graham Crackers!" Pinkie cried out happily, holding up a large package of the crumbly ingredient.

"All right!" Babs cheered as Storm and Pinkie brought out the chocolate and graham crackers. "What would we do without you two?"

 

Brownie and Sundae meanwhile started to get the hang of marshmallow roasting...until their marshmallows caught fire and they had to blow each other's out.

 

"So, what do we do now that we've cooked the marshmallows?" Brownie wanted to know.

 

"Maybe Sweetie Belle can show us how to construct the perfect s'more?" Apple Bloom nudged Sweetie Belle with a chuckle, knowing her sister's tastes in food creation.

Sweetie Belle giggled slightly before propping her marshmallow stick onto a rock to keep the sugary treat at the tip safe. She then began a (rather squeaky) impression of her sister, "Why of course! Every S'more must be absolutely fabulous!" She said dramatically, managing to stay composed just long enough to finish the sentence before breaking into a giggle-fit.

Blitz almost dropped her somewhat scorched marshmallow when she heard Sweetie Belle's impression of her sister. It was really close in theatricals and voice from what she could hear, though she hadn't really talking with her big sister. She had just heard her talk a few times, and looked in the window once because there was a ruckus of sort inside the building. Turned out to be Applejack that had been having a go at her for some reason, but Blitz hadn't stayed there long enough to really be sure about what.

 

When she noticed the chocolate and crackers after Sweetie's impression she made big eyes and looked towards them, then at Pinkie and Storm with a questioning look as her head tilted slightly to the side. Were they supposed to melt this too? She wasn't entirely sure, but she couldn't really speak right now without dropping her stick.

Storm glanced over a Blitz, guessing the question that she seemed to be having. "No, we're not going to melt or burn these too." He told her, already guessing what was going on in the young pyrotechnic's mind. "After you think you've got your marshmallow ready, you'll put it on a piece of graham cracker, with a piece of chocolate, and smush it all together with another graham cracker!"

 

Pinkie giggled, "Or you could just eat the marshmallow plain if you want! Wait for it to cool down first though, other wise.... Well, Owchies." She explained simply, remembering the last time she'd shoved one of the melting confections into her mouth a bit too hastily. Storm nodded sagely, remembering the times when he had also fallen to that terrible mistake...

"You mean like thi—Eww!" Brownie exclaimed after smashing his chocolate bar and graham cracker around his marshmallow. He failed to take into account the marshmallow's size as the goo wrapped around his hooves. "My hooves are all sticky!"

 

"That's what's supposed to happen, Brownie!" Apple Bloom told him. "Now, try it out."

 

Brownie detached the messy s'more off one hoof and put in his mouth using the other. "Mmm!" his face lit up as the sensation hit his tongue. "Try some, sis!" he said, muffled as he pointed to his sister's marshmallow. Sundae reached for the chocolate and graham crackers before making a s'more of her own. She threw the completed sandwich in her mouth and licked her lips.

 

"Wow!" she yelled. "These are great!"

Blitz looked a little dsapointed that they weren't going to melt those things too, but when she saw how the others reacted and how it sounded like it must taste, she got the happy back in her and took a few crackers, some chocolate and then used her magic to hover them over to the marshmallow, slightly pressing them together before pulling it off the stick so she could let go of it.

 

Some of the gooey mallow seeped over the side, which couldn't be helped she guessed, then finally got over to her and she took an actual hold in them so she could turn down the magic again and have a bite. The texture was a bit weird the first half second or so until all the layers got together and she could feel the myriad of tastes going on in her mouth. A sensation that made her jump a little in place and almost drop her treat.

 

"Dwis 's weally good."

 

Her words were muffled some since she hadn't chewed off before talking, but she was in no big hurry. This was the sort of thing she was gonna savor, so she could remember it in times to come.

Scootaloo, Grey, and Sweetie Belle were all making similar comments of approval.

 

"This is awesome!" Scootaloo said, happily munching on her S'more.

 

"I think I'm gonna have S'more S'mores before we head to bed." Grey joked happily, though he did plan to have another S'more or two.

 

"This is GREAT!" Sweetie Belle squeaked out, though being careful to keep as much of it off her fur as possible. Didn't want Rarity to have a fit about it later after all...

"Me too. Way to yummy to just have one."

 

Blitz nommed the last of her S'mores in her before letting out a small burp and holding her hoof to her mouth with a slight blush, a small "Sorry" escaping her mouth before she went over to place a new mallow on her stick. She was going to see if she could make it a tiny bit less charcoal this time though. The crusty coal flavour had been a little bitter in the otherwise nice treat, so perhaps if she could go for a bit more golden than that this time around things could be that little bit better. Only one way to find out anyway.

Apple Bloom smiled at her friends enjoying the s'mores as she took her place next to Blitz.

 

"Of course ya can't have just one, Blitz!" Apple Bloom said to her, grabbing another hoof-ful of marshmallows. "That's why they call 'em s'mores!"

 

Brownie fetched a marshmallow from Apple Bloom and waved it over the fire as he sat on his haunches next to Grey, having heard his plans. "Are you kidding, Grey?" he asked. "I could do this all night!"

 

"So could I," Babs told him, a bit muffled through eating her first s'more. "I don't know what I've been missing!"

"You've been missing s'mores, so you should definitely have s'more!" Grey joked happily, already roasting another marshmallow as he licked the last of the deliciously gooey treat from his hooves.

 

Scootaloo giggled at the joke, also roasting another marshmallow.

 

Sweetie Belle was still working her way through the first s'more, making small sounds of delight as she did so.

 

Storm and Pinkie were eating S'more flavored Muffins and Cupcakes respectively.

Blitz spend the next three marshmallows trying to find the right way to do things. First one got burned again, second one had been okay, but a bit underdone and the third one had been near perfect when she had turned it, and the whole thing slopped off and went into the fire. Yet the fourth one she was going at now seemed to do the trick, and as the golden surface got mushed between the crackers and she got a bite she got a bit happy jumpy for a second. Hopefully, she would remember this for another time.

"You said it, Grey!" Brownie said, his mouth stuffed to the brim with s'mores before swallowing. "You too, Blitz. I'm having a blast."

 

"So am I," Babs agreed. "To think back in Manehatten we would just sleep over at somepony's house to eat cookies or apple pie."

 

"C'mon, Sweetie Belle!" Apple Bloom teased. "We've all had a lotta s'mores already. You still haven't eaten one!"

 

"Do double deckers count?" Sundae asked, showing off her double-marshmallow, double-chocolate s'more before biting into it.

Unbeknownst to the group, a young mare was watching them from nearby. She was hidden in a small grove of trees, completely hidden from view. As she shifted to get a better view, however, she slipped. As she regained her balance, her hoof crushed a stray stick. The sharp crack echoed loudly, catching the attention of everypony in the group around the fire. The mare froze, hoping they would ignore the sound.

Spellbind had been walking for ages. She had missed the wagon (bus equivalent) back to Ponyville. She thought she would enjoy the walk, but it turned out not, for her hooves were extremely tired... not to mention her eyes were too.

 

She suddenly fell asleep and landed on the ground, then rolled down the hill, stopping next to the campfire with a bunch of ponies around it.

Blitz had been gnawing on a s'mores and had started to slowly move towards the minor crate she had taken with her when she heard the dry twig snap and she looked in the direction to see who was there. She couldn't exactly see who was there, but... No, there was something there, she could swear it. perhaps if she went and had a little lo-

 

Further it didn't go before another sound cemented itself as not only being there, but being accompanied by something she could definitely see. Or rather, as she looked at who had rolled down the hill, somepony. A pegasus from the looks of things, but that wasn't the important part. No, that went to the fact that she could have hit the fire, and that, well... She had rolled down here to begin with, which wasn't really normal.

 

The s'more fell out of her mouth as she looked between the pegasus, the place she could have sworn she had seen something, Storm , Pinkie and the CMC of both towns with rapidly with a panicked look in her eyes.

 

"Wha- I... Is she okay? She's uh, and then fire, and... And the noise and the fwoosh!"

 

Her sentence structure was fractured with the combined surprise, several things to focus on and the fact that this poor mare might be hurt somehow.. It was unlikely that she would start making more sense or look less jittery in the panicked looks between them still going on before somepony had taken control and take the first step in getting things under control, or the mare had risen up and let them know if she was okay.

Storm had turned at the loud 'Crack!' sound, only to see a mare come rolling down the hill and stopping next to the campfire. He quickly moved to her side and checked to make sure she was breathing, also giving a cursory glance to make sure she wasn't injured by the fall. "I think she's okay." He told everypony else, "I'm gonna go ahead and lay her down in the girl's tent and we can ask her what happened when she wakes up."
