What do you consider too far?

As this discussion is a lot more general and not centered on anything specific with "Friendship is Magic" or any of its derivatives, I have moved this to the General Discussion section of Everfree.

Please keep in mind your subject content and idea before placing your threads. You'll likely garner more interest and discussion if in the right area.

So please, continue your discussion and have a good day. :)

Harming someone else for their opinion or for something like their sexuality/ethnicity/gender/weight/age, etc.. is going way too far for me personally.

Bluntly stating things on topics that are controversial, having absolutely no regards for how the opinion could affect the other person.

A couple of my friends have gone too far in certain conversations. I don't mind talking about abortions and religion and other matters, but I try to be as respectful as possible when stating my own opinion. My 2 friends gave no crap how it came out and literally stated "if my future son/daughter turned out gay I would cure them" and "it's a disease and I wouldn't condone that behavior in my house. I wouldn't allow their boyfriend/girlfriend to come into my home choosing such an awful lifestyle" blah blah blah they're going to hell for being so gay.

And I was like...uh...well...okay then. And changed the subject. It was more of a rant coming from them than an actual deep discussion. And I couldn't handle the bashing, it's one thing to not understand or accept homosexuality, but it's another thing to say such ignorant things on it or any other topic for that matter.

This is:

"What do you consider too* far?"

It's okay to a certain point to correct people's grammar/spelling, but those who consistently correct others need to take a dang chill pill and relax.  This ain't no 12 page research paper for Honors English.  This is Patrick.  IMEAN  ... this is MLPForums for goodness' sake.  Hold the onions.

Yeah, can the subject be narrowed down a bit?

In regards to obscenity, somebody said "It should be like verbal spice.  A little can add savor, but too much is unpleasant"

Someone else flamed somebody with the comment "Your vocabulary is small, mean, & impoverished.  But, it is more than adequate to express your ideas"  Yeah, I'll go with that

Usually, I feel cursing is just a substitute for thinking how to express what you mean.  But, there are times when it is needed

Honestly? I don't think you really can go too far. I say this, because in that context, it approaches risks, chances and what have you. Life is all about taking risks. The better question to ask, is have you gone far enough?

Being someone who supports free speech, it would be hypocritical of me to say something someone says is "too far". Sure, people are obviously going to say things I don't agree with, even to the point where I think they're insane. However, what many people seem to forget is that free speech works both ways.

I guess the things I can think of at the moment that I consider "too far" are murder, corruption, greed, etc.

Typing "to" when you mean "too".

EXAMPLE: Luna went to the yaoi store.

EXAMPLE: Celestia thinks that Luna may read too much yaoi.

understand yet?

also your and you're.

Celestia: so you're heading to the yaoi store?

Luna: Yes, I'll be sure to pick up some of your favorite yuri while I'm there.

Celestia: thanks sis, you're the best.

Luna: Well, I am your sister after all.

you're= you are

your= something of someone else.

On a personal level, there's no such thing as too far. You create your own limits.

But one must understand that there are consequences for every action so if your goal involves breaking laws and taking away people's personal freedoms then it won't go over well.

In that sense there are lines to cross and you should be prepared to deal with whatever comes of it should you cross them.

Using more than three Nuclear ICBMs, three are plenty as long as you pick the right spots.  :pinkie: Sorry I was thinking about something else, what was your question again?

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?
