What has happened over the years?

Do you have any idea how the internet works, Aly? Even if everyone put all of one type of material in one website it would still leak to other sites for one reason or another. Content created on the internet is often created for multiple websites or people take things from one website and upload it to another (even if this is illegal). You would also have to get every content creator in the entirety of the internet to put all of their work on the same website and that simply won't happen.

 

That's not even getting into search engines. No matter how well a search function works it's always going to be searching with specific parameters in mind. You put in "Twilight Sparkle" and you will come up with the most popular or newest images (based on your filter settings) with tags of any combination of "Twilight" and "Sparkle". It won't exclude content unless you have a SafeSearch filter on and even then it can only exclude things that are tagged with "Ages 18+" or "NSFW" tags. If a search result isn't tagged with either of these things it bypasses all filters attempting to keep it out.

 

And that's only getting into general search engines like Google and Bing. When you get into more specific ones then you have to deal with the same problems and possibly even without a filter.

 

You may not agree with everything you see on the internet but you can do nothing to change that it exists or the fact that you will see it.

 

Consider this: The very existence of MLP and it's fanbase is offensive to people and they still have to deal with it popping up in their searches as much as you have to deal with content you don't like related to MLP. Everyone else lives with this reality and you need to learn to live with it as well.

It's due to the fact that fandoms are made up of humans, and that's what humans do. And if you want to engage in any kind of interaction with others or activity, you will get hit with stuff your not going to like. You don't have to change your convictions one bit, but you do have to be prepared to deal with such matters.

Example: the famous voice actor Vic Mignogna has been in countless anime series but has a number of convictions about things that he won't budge on. So if he is doing a signing at a convention, there are some types of artwork he won't sign, and he will ask if they have something else he can sign. So while being exceedingly polite, he maintains his convictions but engages the anime fandom on his terms. So you may have to figure out how to do something in a similar spirit if you are wanting to get involved in MLP fan works.

 

I hope I'm not be too vague, and that that helps you get a bit of perspective on how to respond in your situation.

You act like the fact that alternative content exists change the characters in the show. The characters will always be "lovable" no matter what fan content you find that says otherwise.

 

And you don't need to live in denial, you just need to accept that these things exist but you don't have to like them.

Hm. There is already a dedicated thread here discussing the more mature aspect of the fandom in respect to clop and R34 (and it's impact on the fandom) in the debate pit. All other threads that attempt to discuss the subject of pornographic and mature content outside of the linked topic are still disallowed. For this reason I am locking this thread.

@Aly, there are several places that you can find resources without stumbling on material you do not want to see or read. MLP Forums is one such place as we try and cater to a younger teen demographic as well as the older folks in the fandom. There are also several like minded people on this board I am sure could share some sites or areas that would not contain material you would find offensive.
