Love and Tolerate....really?

I like to follow the what I believe to be the zen version of love and tolerate

It just is...I still love and tolerate the haters because I have no reason to hate them. They simply don't affect me

I love my Pinkie Pie and Rarity and those that hate have every right to...peace and love be to all...even the haters

I agree. Love and tolerate is a good mantra to live by but no one really does... a bit of an empty phrase.

^ This.

There was definitely no love or toleration over the Derpy drama. =/

Many bronies did the exact opposite...they left VERY hateful comments on Yamino's profile (who wasn't even responsible for the Derpy changes). They told her to kill herself and made fun of her for being trans...that just isn't cool.

Besides. If you loved Derpy so much, you'd still like the character, goofy eyes or not. I still love the Doctor Who character even though he goes through so many changes (regeneration).

The way I personally view it is this:

To love your enemy means to love them as a human being and care for their differences and the fact they exist, in honourable and valourous way. To tolerate means to accept them for what they decide to be, ignore their actions' ill intent, and see past that to the good core they have, however deep inside. To paraphrase a quote: "The greatest way to anger your enemies is to love them as a human being and tolerate their actions.".

It is a powerful lesson in mental control and emotional continence, and allows for the perfections of tranquility and wisdom. It requires a sharply honed mind weather by a lifetime of storms, that has weathered pain and agony, that has deepened in the ever desiring to embrace waters of maturity. It is a concept that we, as humans, only learn too late.

Philosoraptor says: "If Trolling is intentionally saying something that angers someone, and trolls get angry when people love and tolerate them, who is the troll, the troll or the brony?

To me, I don't see "love and tolerate" so much as a meme, but advice on how humans really SHOULD be. Throughout history, men have done little showing extraordinary hatred and violence out of ignorance, with hardened hearts and cold souls.

Why shouldn't we love people for who they are? We are all of the same blood, there are no races, merely one human race. Why shouldn't we tolerate the opinions of others? That alone would have prevented many great wars and genocides.

An awkward way of putting it, yes, but I believe everypony could benefit from love and toleration for themselves and others.

Love is a strong word. I'd say I accept, rather than love. As for tolerance, I generally do. I never troll (ever since I became a brony) and I try my best to just ignore the trolls and haters.

I enjoy ponies, music, and gaming.

Bang.

I actually like the phrase "love and tolerance" and I try to live by it everyday. Although in this case, when I think of "love", I don't think of the love you have for a family member or a "lover". I think of it as kindness, compassion, and affection for others. Love for humankind. In the case of tolerance, I think of it as tolerating people's differences and opinions. Of course there are limits on what I will tolerate, but in general I think it helps avoid unnecessary conflict.

Well its simple:

Love = if you like it, then that's all there is to it

Tolerance = Don't cuss or hate without good reason

So love and tolerate = Like the show but respect people who may not like it

Its meant to refer to bronies only though, its not some standard anti-hater rebuttal or a troll opt-out, its not like "OBJECTION! Love and Tolerate! Your argument is invalid!" I don't think that works (their arguments may be invalid to begin with but that's besides the point)

This is very close to my own views, I too like the phrase Love and Tolerate, but when it is actually meant and not just some shield put up.

I believe in defending yourself from morons, and I also believe that if you don't respect me, you're not about to get any higher level of respect back. Sure I will not descend to name-calling, trolling, or insulting, but I also don't believe in being a pacifist who just smiles under the banner of 'Love and Tolerate' and avoids all confrontation. If you have honor, and you have what you believe in passionately, then sometimes it's necessary to demonstrate it to those who attack you due to being close-minded, ignorant or just pure bullies.

That's my thoughts. Tolerate and love in the sense of not descending to any trollish level, but don't become a pure pacifist either. Even Gandhi said that in self-defense, it was sometimes necessary to have violence, in order to protect your ideals.

I fully agree. Try to be a decent person and avoid conflict when possible, but if someone is attacking you or treating you like garbage, you have every right to stand up for yourself!

I think it should be Accept and Tolerate actually instead of Love and Tolerate.....

ACCEPT the fact that others are different than you, and will not always have the same views.

TOLERATE people to the best of your ability to keep the peace.

If everyone followed those two "rules" the world would probably be a much better place.

However this does not mean you have to let people walk all over you. That will only cause more harm than good.
