gaming Any Mario game you actually dislike?

My least favorite Mario platformer is Super Mario Land, but I actually do still enjoy the game.  SML2 was a significant improvement over its predecessor, but SML still has some interesting quirks and a great soundtrack.

 

But Mario's Time Machine?  Perhaps it's unfair to even call that a "Mario" game, but that thing was...  Not great.  Mario was given all this weirdo dialogue and tasked with completing what felt like a homework assignment (only it required actually visiting different points throughout history), and I'm not really sure anymore as to why.  I'm referring to the SNES version, as I never owned or played the NES version on the original console.

Super Mario World... before anyone kills me, the game isn't bad. I still don't understand the reason why i didn't enjoy it as much as the others. I just didn't.

 

Mario Party 9, I know they were trying to be original and make it different. But it just didn't work.

Although I like 64, it is overrated. People view it through nostalgia goggles rather than an honest view. Its ok saying they prefer it over later 3D mario games, but it is not better than Mario Galaxy one or two.

Its an insult to Nintendo to say that they got it right the first time and they haven't progressed since.

 

I'd say it's better than Galaxy 1 and 2. Not because of nostalgia (I hardly have any for the game), but because I much prefer the more open worlds of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, out of all the recent mario games I've played, I didn't enjoy Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS

 

I was expecting a lot thanks to the reviews and hype I heard so much about, yet, when I finally played and beaten it, it was okay, but it DEFINITELY failed to live up to the expectations I had

 

Overall, it's an okay game, though this is so far the only mario game I didn't like as much to actually sell it

I don't personally dislike any, Mario Party may kind of suck in that "why did you steal my star, I thought we were friends" sort of way but I always win at it so I dislike none of them.

 

Other than that, some of the sports games are okay but some can be sort of boring when played by yourself or not with the right people.

Any Mario kart game after Double Dash.

 

Double Dash was honestly my FAVE Mario Kart. Wii and 8 were good, but Mario Kart double dash was so fun!! Especially on 2 player when you can be partners or just be separate!

 

Yes, the newer Mario party games got a bit...weird.

Like I said, some people prefer 64 over Galaxy and I totally understand but 64 definitely feels like the first 3D Mario game. Nintendo has come a long way since 1996.

My friend and I have been wanting a Mario game that's open world like Mario 64, but with the improvements seen as the franchise went on. That's why I don't consider it the best. Even tho Galaxy is limiting, I believe they perfected the camera and controls which, to me, means a better product.
