Pastel 7,630 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 Season four killed any chance of romance between the two anyway, not that there every really was any... ghostfacekiller39 23,860 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 NOTE: This is just my opinion. I mean I connected with Rarity last out of the main six. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no. NOTHING grinds on me quicker than that. Yes, it's your opinion. You're totally free to have it, too But just because it's your opinion doesn't grant you any kind of protection or immunity from defending it when it's called into question. If you can't back it up and explain why you feel that way, but you're just throwing out "it's my opinion," that means that you realized that you're on the wrong side of the argument and just don't want to admit it. You should explain reason behind your opinion instead of just saying the obvious statement that it's your opinion. 2 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Jeric 46,851 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 After Simple Ways and Inspiration Manifestation, how many more hints does Spike need? What's interesting about Simple Ways is that Spike sort-of has this whole 'take it in stride' approach, especially when he breaks the 4th wall for comedic relief. At this point I'm pretty sure he realizes that Rarity and him are an impossibility, but his crush/love for her still exists because it makes him happy. It will likely always exist to some degree even if Rarity settles down. His friendship with Rarity will always have a unique and complicated dynamic ... and I can see him as an adult dragon spending as much time with her as Princess Twilight due to this. As I typed that line in bold my mind exploded. Just briefly had a mental image of Spike as an avatar for the fans of Rarity ... You should explain reason behind your opinion instead of just saying the obvious statement that it's your opinion Or at least state that you don't know why, or can't put a finger on it, rather than coming across as an authority on a character trait.
Old Fluttershy 349 August 3, 2014 Author Share August 3, 2014 You should explain your reason behind your opinion instead of just saying the obvious statement that it's your opinion. Okay here is why I think what I think, Applejack is the hard, proud work horse. We see this in Applebuck season and even in The Grand Galloping Gala. It's just in her nature to want to help the Apple family. Pinkie Pie...must I really explain, she has a bubbly, fun-loving attitude, this isn't a flaw it's her character. Fluttershy, while she is the most flawed out of all the characters it is her character. She's supposed to be scared of everything and I really hope in season 5 they explain why. Rainbow Dash, is that daredevil that will do practically anything to achieve her dreams. She wants to be the best in all of Equestria. Twilight Sparkle, while her attention to detail is a flaw it is in her character to do so. She wants to make her teacher proud and she wants to make herself proud. Rarity, her character is that high, class pony that just wants to make it big. While this is the forefront of many movies it does make her duller than other characters because I have seen her character before.
SparklingSquirrels 21,341 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 (edited) It's possible I guess, but I think Rarity really does care about Spike, as shown in several episodes. And Spike seems completely willing to help her out. Edited August 3, 2014 by SparklingSwirls ֍֎֍֎

Rarity, her character is that high, class pony that just wants to make it big. While this is the forefront of many movies it does make her duller than other characters because I have seen her character before. Well, the difference to these high class characters is that Rarity is at least as hard working as Applejack, she works really hard to make her dreams come true. Rarity sacrifices much to stay true to her friends, and she could be much higher in the social ladder than she is if she would just let them behind. She would never do that though, and she choses the difficult and slow way to make her dreams true. Every day she lives in Ponyville is a sacrifice to her friends. She is a very complex and conflicted character that carefully has to balance her dreams and her friends. Rarity takes that prejudice of these high class girls that will do everything to get big and throws it against the wall. She has almost nothing to do with these at all. Rarity is so much more, she is a great friend, a truly talented artist and a generous soul. Rarity is not even born into high class, she made it that far because of the blood, tears and sweat she shed. Have you seen her parents? Don't know how that is not complex...

Sooooo...you're basically telling me you don't like her because you stereotyped her as being all the things that characters like her usually are, even though, in reality, she breaks all of those stereotypes and adds a completely new and fresh spin on that character archetype, and that'd be painfully obvious to anyone who has paid a moment's worth of attention to her character? Come on man. I really think you need to re-evaluate her character. It's clear to me that you're completely missing the mark of the kind of pony Rarity actually is with everything you've said in this thread Edited August 3, 2014 by ghostfacekiller39 2 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Jeric 46,851 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 While this is the forefront of many movies it does make her duller than other characters because I have seen her character before. Now where have I heard that before? I completely get where you are coming from. In a sense I had the same view of Rarity years ago (I have a link in my profile to a TL;DR post about how I finally got sucked into MLP that touches on this). What some of us have been talking about, is that the characters on this show are deeper than face value. When you approach a character from a new light you may start appreciating aspects that you didn't know exist or hadn't thought about. Some of the fans of any given character are great sources of perspective. Spike and Rare's dynamic is just one of the many aspects that I appreciate in the show, and it adds to the level of depth of both characters. even though, in reality, she breaks all of those stereotypes and adds a completely new and fresh spin on that character archetype, and that'd be painfully obvious to anyone who has paid a moment's worth of attention to her character? All you really need to do is watch Suited for Success and then ... bam. Like a bolt of lightning I keep trying to think of new aspects of Spike and Rarity and I think I have said enough on the topic that others get where I'm coming from, but I do want to touch on Inspiration Manifestation ... Spike appeared to be less 'crush' motivated in that episode and more focused on the platonic friend-love. Like Obsidian Sky said, I think that they are giving a subtle nudge away from the 'crush'. If Spike continues helping other Ponies constantly, and the hearts in his eyes don't appear as much ... I think that this topic becomes null and void. Either way, this says everything about Spike and Rarity. They will always been close with a mutual love that is not romantic. Beyond family and beyond friendship.

Shift 4,272 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 Rarity was only taking advantage of Spike under dark magic. Otherwise, she has shown to genuinely care for him and doesn't make him do anything he doesn't want to do. 1 Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey. I see it far less often than the country gal, the hyper comic relief, the shy one, the book smart perfectionist, and the daredevil. I'm sorry for sounding rude, but how much TV have you watched? The elegant artist is by far the least exposed character type of all of the mane six, and, to be honest, Rarity's character puts a completely different spin on it and makes it completely unique Edited August 3, 2014 by ghostfacekiller39 2 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! ghostfacekiller39 23,860 August 3, 2014 Share August 3, 2014 Is there any specific episodes that I should watch to get the "true Rarity" "Suited for Success" is a great one to start off with. If you want to explore her flaws more and how she grows and handles those flaws, "Rarity Takes Manehattan," "Sweet & Elite," and "Sisterhooves Social" are great for that. If you want to see what makes her different than the other rich ponies that you seem to be grouping her with, "Sweet & Elite" and "The Best Night Ever." If you want to see how much he friends matter to her, "Suited for Success," "Rarity Takes Manehattan," "Sisterhooves Social," "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils," and "Secret of my Excess" are great for that If you want to see her inner strength and ability to take care of herself, "A Dog and Pony Show" exemplifies that aspect of her. So many possibilities I'll be honest I didn't watch a lot of t.v. growing up. I'd always be that one who went outside with a stick and just had fun. That explains it. 1 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Check out the Rarity Fan Club! "Not everyone who is pretty is necessarily beautiful. The more I read your replies the more I just think you need to hang around and read some posts on characters you don't like, it won't make them your Best Pony, but may give you an better idea on why people gravitate to one character or another. A little off topic, but your post about outdoor play does highlight something interesting. I'm a bit on the older side of this board (NOT OLD ... just a little older ) and I remember a lot of my younger childhood outdoor play revolved around cartoons, comics, and TV shows. You know, assuming the role of the archetype you liked the most with your friends. Same when I played sports as a young kid, you wanted to be a famous athlete. I lost count of the number of times I 'called' Pete Rose or Mike Schmidt.

But it was mostly the PBS Kids shows. So many possibilities just read your profile. And now I know why your so distraught by this. Anyway, I'm getting an appreciation for Rarity. No, she isn't that stereotypical high class pony. She does have a lot of depth. And I'm sorry if I offended anypony with these views of mine. BlinkZ 1,151 January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 Question fr you all. What does Rarity, like about spike. Not romance sense. Does she see him as a friend nad not just a sap to maniuplate ot her whim. I mean seriously, I know she said that fire ruby was speical cause spike gave it to her but she clearly knew using her looks would bend him to her will. Only time i've seen her acutal be thankful and such was in Manifisation infestation. Oh, rariy oes to manehatton, two unicorn on the trip and WHO carries the bag, spike, a child as thier pack mule when hoverin speical objects i like a cake walk for rarity. Show me a few moments wehre she cared for him when it didn't come to her own desires in mind. I don't think that bow from owls well tah ends well counts, that was more of a plot device but I guess that is one moment. So far...I'm not sure if I like being a grownup too much. I'm house sitting with my BFF and I'm like...I have to make life function? WHAT? Rarity and Sweetie Kitchen.gif It's not too difficult, since it's not really our place, just a bit tedious. But such is life I guess. Speaking of life, I am now missing half a fingernail...I somehow got my finger caught in the latch or teh cooler door at work...I was not a fun time. She also just asked Spike to carry the bags Where I'm from, at least, it is considered proper for a male to help a female carry heavy luggage and baggage or whatnot. It's a matter of politesse She only asked, not forced or anything, and he more than willingly obliged Also, in "Secret of My Excess", she was in the clutches of a giant dragon that could easily kill her if it wanted to. No sweat. The dragon wanted the gem Spike gave her, but she refused Why? Because Spike gave it to her and that meant something to her Also, she was the one who seemed most concerned for Spike's safety in "Dragon Quest" and begged him not to go and was the one who immediately brought up following him to make sure he was safe after the opportunity presented itself There's a few examples of the very high value she places on Spike's friendship 4 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Jeric 46,851 January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 the fire ruby..enough said When Rarity swoons over the Fire Ruby? It was not the reality of the scene, it was what Spike was imagining. Rarity was not, in all actuality, using Spike. Spike was fantasizing as all young boys with crushes do. This was discussed in this very thread with the tweets directly from the writer to validate it. You may want to research some of the narrative reasoning behind the decisions made with the character. That opinion is predicated on a false interpretation.
