I like the show as it is without relationship, but i sometimes cant get over the fact that we've been following a group of women in their early twenties for over a year and not a single one of them has ever been involved in a relationship

Now, the thing is, I do think they will find love, just, not in the show. Now, I do think they won't ever so the mane 6 falling in love, but not because of bronies. The show has always been about the fun the creators had, not the bronies. They just leave a little fan service for us but its always been about them. If they enjoy it, thats great. If we don't enjoy, too bad.

 

They don't make the show because of bronies. If they decide to make one of them fall in love, then it doesn't matter about us. Only if they thinks its right.

I think the closest the romance in the series will likely reach is what episodes S02E25 && S02E26 are going to be about -- the royal wedding. It would be hilarious though to have one about what you propose, though. Here's what would be the results:

 

Pinkie Pie -- Annoy the hell outta the stallion, he keeps his distance.

Applejack -- Somehow too tomboyish for him.

Rainbow Dash -- "You guys are all crazy."

Fluttershy -- too shy to actually get to speak much with him, but she'd be the winner.

Rarity -- He'll be attracted to her first, but then she'll be too whiny for him.

Twilight Sparkle -- Timid, but probably would give a half-arsed effort for him and then go read books.

Romantic endeavors will likely remain only hinted toward or offscreen entirely. I've said this before, but I recall Lauren Faust being adverse to the concept of the ponies engaging in romantic relationships. Part of it, I think, has to do with breaking conventional gender roles in cartoons: the female characters swoon over males and want to have lots of dates, etc. Instead, the emphasis is on women getting things done and empowring themselves without completely isolating the male perspective or slamming the viewers over the head with a feminist screed. The basic premise remains oriented toward friendship rather than romance and intimate relationships.

 

The obvious ships would be among the Mane Six given their time spent together. As Kyronea mentioned, however, the producers would not be so bold (or perhaps ill-advised) to begin wrestling with homosexual relationships. Again, it would distract from the central premise of the show, and it would likely be disruptive and provocative rather than charming. With respect to heterosexual relationships, there aren't enough male characters---save for Spike---with sufficient development to make things interesting and plausible. For now, the best we will get are Rarity x Spike, a ship which has been downplayed since "The Secret of My Excess", and Cheerilee x Big Mac, a couple with an ambiguous resolution. There will of course be Shining Armor and Cadence, except that is a far more conventional, socially acceptable relationship.

 

In short, my dream of Rainbow Pie shall never be realized.

 

Seriously speaking, if the writers wanted to actually handle a romance, they would have to tread very carefully so as not to disturb the rhythm of the show.

Well seeing as like nearly 90 percent of the ponys are Female..Its not really possible...but theres also magic, Dragons and whatever else so FUCK logic...THEY WILL FIND LOVE!!!!

I say keep the ships for fanfics. Turning this into a battleground for homosexuals would likely cause uproar within the social conservatives who watch the show, not to mention Hasbro would start to take a beating from assorted social groups. In the end it would just create bad press for Hasbro as the viewers would be thrown into politics. Since in the end, Hasbro looks to make money, not throw their hat into a political arena likely the only shipping they ever show will be not related to the Mane 6 except Rarity's usual stuff. Along with being just heterosexual shippings that are truly blatant. Lyra and Bon-Bon are hinted but there's no canon proof.

In this case, using a pre-existing character isn't practical because of Pinkie's friendly nature. It makes more sense to bring in a new stallion who doesn't know her and can be justified in not understanding her feelings. Speculation...now:

The new stallion in town is annoyed by Pinkie Pie. Insistent that she leave him alone, he hurts her feelings unwittingly. Once he understands why she acts the way she does, he apologizes and they become friends. After some time, he finds that he's falling for Pinkie, but is afraid to tell her. She notices his nervousness and misinterprets it as thinking she's overstepping. Hilarity ensues!

But that's just my thoughts. Nothing against Twilight, AJ, and RD. I just don't see the writers doing this with them anytime soon. But only time will tell.

 

I'd love to watch an episode based off of that!

I'm sure they'll find love... If they were looking for it to begin with. None of the characters seem to be interested in romance with the exception of Rarity who originally wanted to meet Blue Blood but discovers that wasn't a very good idea and Spike who has a crush on Rarity and got some pretty strong development this season.

I think if any of the mane six had even the slightest bit of romantic interest within the show, even just a tiny, itty bitty hint of romance... someponies in this fandom would flip a feather, if you know what I mean. Although it would be interesting to see what kind of pony would get each of our favorites head over hoofs.

Another thingy, most cartoons do have some romance episode in them where a main character falls in love. It usually returns to normal by the end, but at least we would have the one episode. I know we already had hearts and hooves but I'm hoping there will be one episode where one of the mane 6 falls in love. My guess it'd be either Twilight or Rainbow, and they would try to deny their feelings atleast. Probably Twilight in order for it not be Read it and Weep 2

I'd love to see an awkward love triangle in the show for at least one episode, or maybe even add in a reoccurring stallion where one of the mane 6 has a shy crush on him (possibly Rarity, just to see Spike's distress ).

I think it'd be great to have an episode where the mane 6 develops a crush or is the target of a crush. Romance has been established in the show already, so it's a possibility for the mane 6. I however wouldn't want to see anything long-term. More like a single episode type of thing. Leave serious romantic storylines to the fan fics, I agree with this sentiment.
