its got 3 1 TB drives Kreygasm

the parts i need are

motherboard

RAM

Processor

other small details

i need a sata cable, and other small things like that

i' going to build this as my gaming/streaming twitch comp 90%of the time

what i'm thinking as my list is

2 GTX 980s

32-(64??) gb of ram

and either a 5960X or a 4790K/motherboard Asus Maximus VII Hero or some other more flexible one

The difference between 16 and 32 gb of ram is zero currently and also you'll only need an i5 and you won't need 2 gtx 980's unless you're planning on trying 4k gaming which really isn't worth the cost currently.

1 gtx 980 will be good for a year or two.

1)16GB RAM will be fine(even 8GB is okay for gaming right now)

2)You do not need a high-end i7 for gaming, a FX-8xxx(if you go AMD) or a decent i5(if you go Intel) will be fine.

3)You don't need SLI 980s(even ONE 980 is a bit over-kill and I'd almost suggest dropping down to a 970 and saving a couple hundred dollars)

4)You don't need that expensive a motherboard, either.

Yeah. This is probably going to be so much overkill, that it'd be like kicking someone in the nuts with a spiked, club-style medieval weapon... attached to a bulldozer.

this is my goal for this build but no really i just want 1 comp that will last me 10-15 years without an overhaul lol  more so for twitch then anything else and i just like big power house builds so sue me :/ plus i love OCing~

Here's the thing, if you go over-kill you wind up in a place where driver issues and hardware just being plain incompatible kills it before the parts getting "slow" does.

Then this isn't going to work, you'll need to wait probably for 980ti and 4 way sli that and you probably want to wait till sky lake and 32gb of ram will do.  Maybe even a dual cpu motherboard.  Honestly this setup would only last probably 5-7 years cause I remember when a 5970 was king getting over 100 fps on crysis, but now it can only do medium settings without another 5970.

In economics, there is this thing called the law of diminishing utility. Basically what it says is that the more of something you have, the less satisfied it will make you on a per-unit basis of that thing that you get. Once you get to a certain price point, the parts will not get proportionally better with the price increase. It's not something I'd suggest unless you're confident you could do something like that and still afford to eat. A good gaming PC is a pretty large cash outlay for an average person. Anyway the technology is accelerating. You can futureproof as much as you want, but I really wouldn't look at having the same rig more than 5 years at a time with no major upgrades. Because in 5 to 7 years, the mid end stuff will blow the middle-high and even some high end parts of today out of the water.

Only reason I'm looking at doing major upgrades now is because my rig is very much entry level. It's my first build and I didn't know I'd be in PC gaming for the long haul. I was also in school and I coulnd't afford a ballz to teh wallz PC and keep my bills paid.

so the duel CPU is a shared load so if one goes they both go or does it run full once the other dies? this does sound like a good idea

Basically a dual cpu motherboard is like using two cpus, like if you have two xeons that would be 24 cores and 48 threads instead of the usual 12 cores and 24 threads, but seriously though, don't get one, you'll never need to double your cores and threads for like the next 10 years maybe even 20.

If you're looking for a crazy workstation/gaming hybrid computer, you should also get the firepro w9100, it's the current quickest workstation card and it can cross fire I think.

i'm thinking that too as you have seen lol but time will tell and a higher clock speed is in most cases from what i have read is better then 6 or 8 cores in some cases and seeing as i plan to stream on twitch this is over kill as well as the 980
