You could introduce her to bronies without letting her know, or friends who thing that you are in the right, have her come to like them, and have them spill the beans at a good time. Hopefully that will help.

When I lived with my father, our cousins came over. Her child (Think he was 2?) played with a barbie. He was a boy. My dad noticed this and went a rant.

"He'll become gay!"

"It's not okay for him to like that!"

This hurt to read. It physically made my stomach hurt.

oh my glob....

So, legendheart, your mom hates bronies, huh? Well, does she like "cute"? There're few women in the world who don't.

Also, you said she believes everything she hears? This is a very good thing and can be your advantage.

Now, you could explain all day what a bronie really is, what the show is or what not and she may still have her doubts.

Solution? Let the ponies speak for themselves! How? Well, first, explain to your mom that she's being closed minded. Next, talk her into watching two or three episodes with you. Explain to her what the Elements of Harmony really represent then, once she sees a couple of episodes, she should begin to change her mind about what she thinks bronies are and what the show's really all about.

Being a parent, myself, I love anything that teaches good, solid, decent, honest, honorable values like MLP:FIM teaches. Why would your mom be any different? Hey, you never know... She may end up loving the show and becoming a pegasister!

(Optional but couldn't hurt: show her this forum. Let her read through the posts. Let her see how nice the bronies and pegasisters are, here. Also let her see what a wonderfully artistic and talented community we have, here. Surely, seeing for herself what the fandom is really all about, she'll have to change her mind!)

Sorry for posting so much here but man your sister is being one closminded ignorant motherbucker. My parents are the same way not even listening to me when I want pony stuff. One method I tried to some success is civil disobedience. You don't talk to your mom or sis, refuse to do stuff, basically going on strike. You could post pictures of ponies around your house to show it means a lot. Be careful they may try to punish you but if you are determined you can keep going. If anypony has something to add to this idea feel free. I believe in you and don't want you to suffer like I have. Ignorance is the souce of hate in this world.

Btw: Discord shirt links :)

I will pm you more if I find some :D

:okiedokielokie: Hmm... An interesting idea. Maybe a little something more subtle before my rant? And thanks for the links. I'm particularly fond of the 'You can't spell Discord with Disco' One.  ;)

Very intriguing. I don't entirely see her being open to the concept of watching the show but telling her about it ought to help out. Thanks for the terrific advice, Poni-namous.

Good luck all of you with this stuff. My mom is really nice with this stuff anyways but I do have to explain exactly what it is I want before I she decides to get it. I wanted a 4de twilight and she didn't even know I liked Mlp. That was quite the conversation but in the end she just said it was my allowance and I could spend however I wanted so I was able to get it and I am happy I was able to sit down and have a conversation about it in a constructive way. Just be upfront about it and get whatever you want, it's not like you are going out and buying drugs or something

I'd like to thank everybody who contributed to this post.

I continue to question, how, when, or if I ever will stand up to my mom.

Regardless, I want to thank everyone here for supporting me. It has even inspired me a little.  ;)

In my three and a half years of bronydom I've never had or seen this much support brony - brony.

I tend to avoid youtube comments for needless brony flacking even though none are there.

Anyway, thank you everybody. I feel more and more confident every day.  :muffins:

Haha! I love it!  :yay: I may actually try that, that's hilarious.

Thank you, very helpful. I don't think I'll download any porn though xD

But seriously, that was actually very useful information and you raise some valid points.

Something else that may be relevant is my mom knows I'm in other fandoms. Transformers, Pokemon, Walking Dead, and Doctor Who. She thought I was to old for Pokemon and sighed and said "Aren't you a little old for that?" And the clerk actually defended me.

Maybe a clerk will defend your mlp fandom too(had one do it for me), but can't guarantee it. What i do is reverse psychology on my mother, make her trip up on her own words. She makes a fool of herself and finally gave up the argument.

Hmm... Interesting. I under stand reverse psychology but how do you go about getting them to trip up on their words?

I make a question game out of it, i ask her if you think i'm pedophile, what does that say about your parenting skills. I mean no offense by it, but she gets annoyed with it and gives up. I wouldn't advise saying it like that, but that's just me. If i ever get into a religion argument, i just walk away and let her have it(just an example).

also she's never said a word about it to me again since then, so that's a win for me.  :P

I see... Insulting my mother's parenting skills would only get her mad.

I would, however, ask her things like "I'm not a pedophile, so why does it matter?" But it is a genius plan.

I dearly hope so. I've heard of a brony was legally disowned but the community opened up. Don't know if it's true, but I don't want to be shunned.

I just find things odd considering I'm pretty sure I'm not a pedo. Most teens aren't. I think she's worried of me being a pedophile, which is ridiculous. Don't know. It's stupid. Once I am able to buy pony My room will blind you with bright colors. B)

I may have have figured put roughly to my mother.

I want to tell her that her views on bronies aren't fair to me. I feel she is being selfish in her manner because she is trying to mute my interests for her own, for lack of a better word "wanting", so that she doesn't have to deal with the fact that I'm different. It's not okay for her to do this because just because one guy does it, doesn't mean all bronies do. What does it matter if they were, as long as I'm not? Does she really think MLP will make me a pervert? She can't force her views on me. I'm old enough have my own perspective on the world. She enrolled me in a christian school (Though I am not of the sorts, no offense) To learn good morals and be a better person. My friends are more supportive in it then she is. What she us teaching me is to be a closed-minded person, who lets others shape me. If I like ponies so be it. It's no different from liking Doctor Who, per se. Her telling me I can't like this affects me. It hurts me. I am not ashamed of being a brony. I won't.

When I lived with my father, our cousins came over. Her child (Think he was 2?) played with a barbie. He was a boy. My dad noticed this and went a rant.

"He'll become gay!"

"It's not okay for him to like that!"

It goes without saying he's as narrow minded as I've ever seen.

I took the hint, and became much more secretive of my brony-ness.

When I moved in with my mom, I thought I could finally could be an open brony. I could wear tees, buy merch etc,

I came home from a local con with my friend and she thought I was joking when I walked in with my Fluttershy poster.

She began to put together the pieces, and was fine with it until my sister cane over while I was gone over the summer. She saw my Derpy shirt on the floor if my bed room and told my mom about bronies. Cloppers in particular. My sister was always a closed minded nitwit but I thought she would support me because she is quite a childish character. I let the criticism roll off my back until we were at wal-mart. I approached the till with a booster of MLP CCG cards in my hand. She glared at me at took them off the conveyer belt and threw them on the shelf. I shrugged it off and said "Don't worry, I'm paying,"

"don't ****ing care, You are NOT buying any ****ing little ponies"

I didn't talk to her fir a coupke hours until I came out of my room to get a coke.

"Are you upset about the cards?"

I replied with a sarcastic "No" and she said "Oh, okay."

Sorry I got a little off track.

Anyway...

I want to tell her how I feel. I want her to know I'm a brony and if she doesn't like it that's her loss. I want to tell her why FiM is good why I like it, and the community. However, all she thinks about when she hears "Brony" is "Pedophile". She needs to know I'm sick of it and it's not fair for her treat it like that.

EDIT: Sorry for spelling errors. Typing is not easy on a tablet.

A lot of bronies put up with this, and I am very glad you won't.

No one should be treated badly just for liking a show, and I hope your mother comes to realize this.

or at least learns to get over it, it is your life, you ARE aloud to have your own interests as long as they aren't hurting any one.

this may not mean much from a stranger, but I'm proud of you.

and I wish you the best of luck.

life may not be easy, but it'll get better.

Geez, I've never really dealt with this sort of thing in regards to liking MLP but sometimes the ignorance of people blows my mind. It has been said that Adolf Hitler's favorite film was King Kong, So does that automatically make me a Nazi since it's also one of my favorites? The logic behind the idea that all Bronies are sexual deviants is completely flawed and makes no sense.

For one thing, As most Bronies know the whole Clopping thing is NOT exclusive to MLP. If I were to search the net right now for pornographic material relating to Star Wars, Scooby-Doo, The Brady Bunch, and James Bond, Chances are I would find results for all of those things. That demographic exists in every fandom, It's just that since MLP is considered by ignorant masses to be such an unusual and un-masculine thing for adult males to like, they have to look for something they perceive to be a sick and twisted aspect of the fandom so they can use it as an excuse to demonize us and say "see, all of these people who like MLP are a bunch of freaks", and so the Rule 34 thing gets magnified and focused on significantly more than porn content of any other media property. Christ, there is even Rule 34 material of the characters from Twinkle Toes, a line of light up shoes sequined shoes by Sketches aimed towards little girls that uses a cartoon girl and her pet rabbit to promote the brand. That kind of material literally exists for pretty much everything.

Bronies are no different than Trekkies, or any other collective of fans who gather at cons to celebrate their favorite TV Show or Movie. People really need to get a grip on reality and realize that the world isn't Black & White, Liking a TV show has nothing to do with one's sexual orientation, and just because someone watches MLP doesn't mean they have a sexually deviant agenda, People don't watch Planet of the Apes because they want to have sex with Chimpanzees.

As far as your Mom though, I would show her articles or videos that explain what Bronies actually are and I would explain that the stuff she has heard about from your sister exists in every single fandom. I do know that parents can sometimes be unreasonably stubborn tho and no matter what you try to tell them they still refuse to accept it. If you are using your own money to buy harmless things that you enjoy, it is your right to buy whatever you want. Now, My Mom has never outright tried to stop me from watching MLP or from buying merch and generally she doesn't care that I like it, but she does have that sort of ignorant attitude from time to time and tries to get on me about other stuff that I like and going out in public with MLP stuff. I don't really make a big deal about the fact that I like MLP but I don't hide it either, I keep all of my Pony stuff prominently displayed in the living room of my apartment, I've worn Pony shirts in public and have Pony keyrings on my backpack that I take to work, The entire staff of my job knows that I like MLP and guess what? Nobody cares! I have only ever received positive comments from people who were curious or also liked MLP themselves, and people from my Job have given me Pony things for Christmas and Birthdays and whatnot. It's really astounding that there are people who assume someone has malicious intentions just because they watch a cartoon.

disobedience shows your parent that something is wrong. When she asks you could tell her or let her know by hanging up pony stuff etc... If she still refuses to listen you could continue being disobedient to show that you are willing to fight for your beliefs. I know you can do it!

A boy... showing interest in a slim blonde girl with oversized breasts... incredibly gay!

Let's give him a different toy... perhaps a man in uniform with a rippling six pack? That'll send him straight.

Unfortunately I haven't said

(Or done) anything. I know exactly what I want to say and how I want to say it but I have zero courage/ballsieness to do so. Right now my problem is finding something to really make me just do it.

My parents thought it was a little strange (I'm a college age girl), but I explained to them that it connected me to my childhood. (when I had gen 3 ponies). Overall, it can be tough to stand up, but you should show your mom that you're comfortable being yourself. It can be really hard (I've had to stand up up to them for my choice of major, career and boyfriend.) It's never easy but can get easier with time. But I've found that I became a lot happier when I made the choice to not let them decide my life for me. Maybe your incentive can be getting a good piece of limited edition merch!

It's the hardest and most rewarding thing you can do!

I am pretty fond of the Blue Flu Discord vinyl...

Anyway, my sister's staying home the last few days so I'm looking for  chance to get my Mom alone. It's harder then it seems.

I would like to talk with my sister too, but talking to her would be multitudes more difficult because she's:

-Immature

-Stupid

-Closed-minded (Only minority group she doesn't bash regularly is LGBT)

-Just plain rude

For those reasons I probably won't confront her. I've already made it a point to wear my Derpy shirt around her.

So by no means am I new to the fandom. Regardless, I have little pony stuff. I have a Fluttershy poster from a con, Luna sticker, Celestia sticker, a shirt, and SINGLE booster from the ccg. 2 of the 5 are from friends. Only reason I own things I bought is because my mom thought I was joking.  :eww:

So anyway I can't buy pony stuff because my sister told my mom every brony is a clopper/pedophile.

My mom is known to beleive everything she hears and/or sees.

So my mom gets REEEEEEALLY mad when I try to buy pony merch. CCG, tees, vinyls, you name it.

TL;DR: Mom hates bronies. WANT MERCH! HELP! :(

sighs. There are so many worse things you could be doing that being a fan of mlp. Clopping or no clopping it keeps you out of trouble. I think that's how ii'd veiw it if I were a parent but then I guess that's a bit bias of me.
