What's your opinion on modern PMVs or PMVs in general?

If you've followed the PMV (something) for a little while you've probably noticed the general style of PMVs change over the years. Modern PMVs have more effects and typography type things but generally don't have some of the more simple things that really add to the quality of a PMV (that's not to say that modern PMVs are bad) like lip syncing, and a 'story' to go along with the PMV. (Though the last one is probably harder to do)
 
Below are some examples of older PMVs and then some newer ones for comparison:

Before I'd seen these I had never seen PMVs before. As long as a PMV is well made I really don't care whether they use the old or the new style, but I can't say 'they're all good' because I'm fairly certain bad ones exist. I used to watch a lot of AMVs and there were some pretty bad ones there, anyway.

I like new PMVs. As the fandom grows, we get more people who are good at things like lip-synching, and people who are willing to teach others their experiences. Not just that, but I also like the complicated effects shown in new PMVs. I do agree that less is more, but at this point I wouldn't think that some fans moved on with simple PMVs. Seeing effects used at their full potential is unbelievable.

Well, it's a bit difficult to really comment on them in detail. All I can really say is that I like some and I don't like others. In addition, I'll take simplicity over fancy graphics & such.

I like nowadays PMVs, the effects were so great!    Also pretty much all of them are great except for plain one, I mean, just put a random song and then put some MLP clips. That's not creative at all, I was stumbled one of them month ago, and I don't know why it was so popular... :okiedokielokie:

I don't think I would rank PMVs by age. There are some older PMVs that are done in the "newer" style as you call it. 
 
I'd put them in three catagories:
 
#1 Simple music played over edited clips strait from the show.

#3 The middle ground style that uses edited clips from the show with a few original additions and better lip syncing to the music.
