Ideas for an original character category

Since discussions etc. about oc's seem to pretty popular on this forum, I was thinking that we should have an oc category for the forums. Some rather broad subcategories I thought of are...

 

 

General oc discussion

 

Oc art?

 

The ask an oc could be moved here, as well as the character database?

 

Oc review and critiquing and help/advice

Er...I don't really know what's going on here, but if the idea is to make some suggestions about how to come up with a unique OC, then I'm happy to throw my 2 cents in.

 

To make your OC a truly original character, try the following:

 

1. Make them something other than a pony or a Changeling

2. For the love of Celestia, no alicorns

3. No self-inserts

4. Don't make them the 7th member of the Mane 6

5. Don't make them compulsively dark, mopey, or cool

6. Associate them with a different part of Equestria with limited or no contact with the canon main characters

7. Don't make them look like this:

 

 

 

Now go forth, young brony, and make an original original character!

Oh! My mistake, now I understand. 

 

That's not a bad idea I suppose...we do have a Character Database but it's for roleplays only. A new section for OC's might make a good addition to Creative Resources.

I don't know if OCs warrant an entire category like that, since all of the subcategories you described are handled perfectly well by the sections they already reside in, IMO

 

However, you may still be on to something. Since OC help takes up such a large portion of Creative Resources, it might be beneficial for the forum to split "OC resources" into its own section separate from Creative Resources, which would make it easier for people to find posts seeking help with fan-projects without having to sift through 5000+ "what do you think of my OC?" posts.
