What is your favorite RKO, @Denim&Venöm

I do like the one he hit RVD with back in '07 right when he started introducing the PRIDE style soccer punts to the dome. Though my second favorite is the one he hit on Benoit during their world title rematch on Raw. He got some serious height on that.

How big would it be if AEW signed John Cena or CM Punk?

Vision from the future: AEW will be REALLY popular for about a month or two and then things will calm down. There will also be ice cream bars. :awed:

I forgot to put CM Punk's name in that post since I was referring to him specifically. My bad.

Why is this happening so suddenly though? What made WWE decide to probably make this change?

Yeah, it came out of nowhere. I think it could have something to do with USA wanting more ratings and WWE wanting to go more edgy.

I thought PG was VERY successful for WWE.

Rumor has it that it was a memo saying they were considering it, but that it got sent too early and it's not set in stone. Despite the current profits, PG WWE still isn't landing with 18-49. So there could be pressure from the advertisers on this front. Or this could be a smoke screen to distract from the current allegations Vinny Jr is under. Either way, expect less attitude era and more Ruthless Aggression from 2004-2007. Things will just change from Big Bang Theory stupid to Family Guy stupid. Expect a spike in ratings before falling to the status quo.

On more positive news, today's a big day in wrestling, for the G1 Climax has started! And the first night is up for free!

Looks like instead of each night of the tournament having matches from alternating blocks like last year, all four blocks will have a match apiece every night, with everybody else working preview tags.  This could be a good set up as it will have everyone working a lighter schedule while keeping the block finalists less predictable. We get a rematch from last years A block final between last years winner Okada and G1's longest winning streak, Jeff Cobb.   Jay White returns to the G1 after taking '21 off. where he faces Sanada for the first time since 2020. Aaron Henare is finally in the G1 and he faces the Ace. And the IWGP U.S. & RevPro British champ. Will Ospreay battles El Phantasmo in his G1 debut, making this one of the few rivalries to span the G1, Best of the Super Juniors and the New Japan Cup, the other one being Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi, a match that set later in the tournament.

Today is also when NOAH's Destination Budokan show is going sown.

image.thumb.png.fb09da82b553668d818d8c8502abbb81.png

Headlined by RVD & Masato Tanaka vs. Super Crazy & Nosawa Rongai in a hardcore match. Keiji Mutoh wrestling the first of his final five matches against his on again, off again rival/protege, Kaito Kiyomiya. And the resident angry karate man, Kenoh challenging new GHC heavyweight champ. Satoshi Kojima, now only the 4th ever man to win the Japanese grand slam of GHC heavyweight,  New Japan IWGP heavyweight and All Japan Triple Crown. He's more than worthy of such an honor and I'm glad he gets to work NOAH where he can show that he's still got it. But Kenoh is rightfully irate that an old outsider is expecting grandiose treatment from his company and is now holding parading their top prize. To be fair, Kenoh does have a point of all the older legends (Kojima, Mutoh, Fujita, Funaki) getting preferential treatment while the loyal young guys are being ignored. Do go catch it on Wrestle Universe or FITE Tv.

Speaking of NOAH, Merry Birthiversary to their play by play man, Stewart Fulton. One of the best commentators in the game today.

I just heard that this was also more of a USA Network idea than a WWE idea.

I think a big reason why WWE isn't landing with that demographic is because "Premium Live Events" are the only shows that really matter.

Weekly TV is basically reruns and recaps.

I could say the same about the Premium Live Events lately but at least there's a chance something exciting might happen.

With Vince McMahon retiring, who do you think will take over his spot on creative? I'm hoping Triple H, but I won't hold my breath.

Stephanie McMahon would be my guess but I'm hoping for Paul Heyman.

Speaking of creative, do you think this could bring about the return of "bullet point" promos which would allow wrestlers to act more naturally?

Nope. Because despite our criticisms, the formula is working now more than ever. Your average WWE fan isn't picky. Anyone that has criticized WWE has either tuned out or is watching AEW. How ironic that it took AEW for WWE to get its way. Their critics have been taken off their hands.

All that's left are die hard rapt in awe of the house the McMahons have built or the casuals who don't look too deep into things. Simplicity sells. Just look at every major sitcom. The creative process is tightly controlled and refined ad nasium. WWE is now functioning much like an SNL or a Family Guy or a Spongebob. Anyone whose sticking around knows what they're getting. There's no point in changing because who would these changes be for?

Taking a quote from the "Vince retires" thread to here for this.

Brock Lesnar has already walked out of Smackdown as soon as the news broke. People have already been saying this is a work but given the ramifications of this news I doubt this is the case

Spoiler

I think tonight's conclusion to Smackdown answered that, um… theory quite emphatically. ;)

That "Brock left SmackDown" story sounded too ridiculous to be true.

Even though we've just had the biggest news since the fall of WCW, wrestling doesn't stop for anypony.

ROH's big comeback show, Death Before Dishonor, is today. Here's the line up.

His first crack at the title since 2006 against Morishima. His first match back in ROH since I last saw him in person back in 2011. And he captures what he's so long deserved. Congrats, Claudio. You've earned it.

And breaking news out of ROH/AEW. Jonathan Gresham has been granted his release. Rumor has it that he got confrontational w/ TK and wasn't polite about it.

I'm getting Low Ki vibes fro Gresham. Very talented guy but with an inflated ego. The consensus is that he's great in ring but has no personality and didn't endear himself to AEW, trying to big time the company. A company with guys just as talented if not more so than he is. The point has been brought up that big name outsiders like RUSH, Thunder Rosa & Konosuke Takeshita still had to play the hand they were dealt and rebuild themselves for a new audience. Gresham didn't really do that and now is taking his ball and going home, presumably to impact where his wife Jordan Grace is the knockouts champ. Sucks that it has to be this way but I don't necessarily blame TK for not hopping on the bandwagon. ROH does need a little bit of a new direction and the direction under Gresham wasn't making a difference.
