TheMisterManGuy 344 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 With a few exceptions, the majority of western animation aimed at adults is a generic raunchy sitcom with pointless language, sex, and gore, and tasteless shock humor designed to offend as many people as possible. Yet look at shows like MLP, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Wander Over Yander, Clarence. Kids shows that are apparently smarter, more enjoyable, and more mature than your average adult cartoon. Like I said, there are exceptions, Futurama is smart and funny, while Toddler Titans is juvenile and stupid. But does anyone else think most "adult" cartoons are even more childish than most kids cartoons?
Moonlight 7,291 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 Yep, since most adult cartoons like to rely on toilet humor, or overall edgy comedy that would only appeal to the lowest common denominator. Shows like Steven Universe will always be better than something like Family Guy, since Steven Universe has agender representation, an on-screen same-sex kiss, dealing with loss and depression, while Family Guy likes to deal with incestuous marriage. Gravity Falls is also downright amazing, while not talking-down to its target audience and dealing with adult topics like death. 1 matching setups with my bff pathfinder
TheJLeeTeam 914 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 Well there are some kids cartoons that are obnoxiously immature like Sanjay and Craig but there are more tame shows. The TV Y rated shows seem to be the most mature. Not the pandering ones like Dora but the quality ones that are inspirational and has valuable life lessons like Arthur, MLP: FiM, etc. My blog post on Starting Fresh with MLP:FiM: https://mlpforums.com/blog/2076/entry-16988-im-starting-fresh-with-mlp-fim/

Everything is either Y7, G, or PG.
Moved to Elsewhere 11,331 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 Some can be more mature just by the themes they cover. Do I even need to mention the themes covered in Courage and Gravity Falls? What can make some adult cartoons immature is that some of them feel the need to have constant sex jokes or just immaturity.
Shanks 10,817 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 It all depends I think there are plenty of cartoons geared toward children as well as adults that are good and plenty that scrape the bottom of the barrel and much of this depends not just on what show but even on a single shows earlier or later episodes as many great cartoons started out great but went downhill. I don't think that sex jokes and toilet humor necessarily make a show bad of course it is a matter of personal taste and I happen to like that and even shock humor can have its place as South Park has often done this to make some rather profound political, social and philosophical commentary though some more recent South Park episodes have missed the mark on this but the Premium Isn't Free episode which lampoons mobile gaming is the best piece of social commentary they have done since the South Park movie blasted censorship. What I have noticed though is that adult oriented cartoons tend to last much longer than "kids cartoons" and ones that start out good seem to more likely to go downhill partly due to lasting longer though a series lasting long won't always suffer this fate. The Simpsons has lasted longer than any other cartoon ever and while it has lost much of its pizazz I don't think it has fallen anywhere near as much as Family Guy. A lot of "kids cartoons" also suffer from being cancelled way way before their time and in the case of Thudercats (2011) just when it was really getting good. Megas 28,138 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 I think both TV shows and Video Games should get rid of the Mature rating as I feel things that are rated mature really aren't, and should change it to something that makes more sense like "Restricted audiences" or "Young Adult" if you get what I'm saying

Windseeker 546 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 I can't really say for sure whether or not which category is more mature than the other, it really depends on your sense of humor and which brand of comedy you prefer. If you don't like crude (sex) jokes towards celebrities and pop culture references from the 80s, then Family Guy ain't for you. If you like sheer randomness and a funny chemistry between oddball characters on a unique setting, then you might like Chowder or Uncle Grandpa. Golden Triangle 75 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 If you talking about Dora the Explorer, than no. But if you're talking about Gravity Falls then yes. Personally, I love Family Guy for it's humor but it's still immature as it is.
