Over the past few days, I've noticed many videos of Guitar Hero / Rock Band / etc. gameplay suddenly being taken down due to SME copyright claims. Is this just a phase or something?

Someone is just going to have to make a new site that allows people to post commentary, criticism and other relevant videos that includes certain gameplay since it's not allowed on youtube anymore.

This actually has nothing to do with gameplay.

 

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are published by Activision and EA, respectively. Historically, two of the chillest companies when it comes to gaming commentaries/videos.

 

SME, meanwhile, stands for Sony Music Entertainment.

 

GH and RB are music games that feature copyrighted music.

 

Connect the dots, guys.

No, it's Sony Music Entertainment, and they're presumably plothurt over videos containing certain songs.

 

Case in point: thanks to them, every single Rock Band 3 video of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley is now unavailable.
