gaming Do you agree that video games was more fun when internet didn't exist

I mean first, let me say that there are lots of thing with the internet that is good.

- Information. Before in time you had to go to a library and hope they had a book about the things you wanted to know or read about, otherwise you were screwed. Now you can basically find information with one click away from the keyboard or just order books to read for yourself. Very beneficial.

But with good there are also bad.

YouTube for example, people complaining, whining about unpleasant things, trivial information that is whimpering per second, flowing information that is always accessible for everyone. Constructive criticism to improve is one thing... the level internet takes this is to a whole different level.

I don't know, but i feel games was much more fun when i didn't had to deal with this stuff that internet pours out by either "Users who might share ideas(In most cases i don't blame those)". or "Spammers who does this types of videos for ad revenue and basically gives suckers what they want"

Just curious to what you guys think?

I don't really feel like the internet affects my gaming experience in any large way. It makes gaming far more convenient since I can look up how to get past something I don't feel like troubling myself with but instances like that rarely come up.

Other people's opinions on games don't affect mine but can, if constructed well enough, give me an idea of a game before I've played it.

And websites like Amazon allow me to get games that are harder to find, especially when places like Walmart and Gamestop stop selling older games.

But all this doesn't really affect the fun factor which comes out most often while playing the game.

You don't really have to deal with that stuff. You can always choose to turn of your internet and just enjoy games that do not require internet. You still don't have to deal with that even though you are playing a game that requires internet. If it is a multiplayer game, then it tells itself since the game is about playing with others :T.

I think it is great to have the internet

I agree in some extent. I remember playing these games when I was little  boy i had no idea internet existed back then  it was one car game  I played it I was happy I didnt know that there were better, now that i look it it was pretty bad game but i honestly enjoyed it . I was happy =)

but when there is knowlegde of better there is no pleasing anyone because if you know there is better than what you have you are not so happy with it. and it can even depress people. Knowlegde is easily accesible these days and you see what is new you buy something from steam example you play it for a while and then you discover something better!

a new game you buy that and rarely play the old game again.

I had maybe 2-3 games back then I didn't know that there was better games I was happy with those games and I can still remember the joy. but after i got internet I saw there are new games and guess what I havent played those 2 games since

no.... as a kid I do remember using the strategy guides for Legends of Zelda Classic, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask.... but now a days I play the game on my own and if I get stuck I figure it out myself.... then I go back with the help of the internet to get anything I may of missed.... I like to 100% games when I can

Yes. I'm more talking about games like Morrowind. When you found something, it was YOUR find, YOUR adventure. You found that enchanted dagger hidden in that tree stump in the swamp. It felt like much more of a personal experience.

On the other hoof (heh) YouTube makes it easy to find out which games you'll like.

Yes and no.

There are many people with the mentality that anything 8-or below is automatically garbage which is complete nonsense. And then there are the dregs of the internet aka fanboys who ruin things for everyone

In some instances various games probably wouldn't have gotten as popular as they did without the internet with things like Lets Play and such and on top of that there are more pushes for localization(Project Rainfall) and fans of Japan-Only games

Plus without the internet, more people would've been suckered into buying crap like Ride to Hell

Retro Game Challenge for the DS encapsulated the experience of video games before the internet in an extraordinary way. There are actually game magazines in-game where you can hunt for secrets and codes to help in the games-you-play-in-the-game. It's fantastic.

I still use gamefaqs from time to time, but I think the internet is the main cause for most games no longer having cheat codes. Before it was a real secret that you could unlock something, and seeking out the code or tip in a magazine was one of the only ways to do it, which contributed to a whole metagame experience, as well as magazine sales.

Not really sure.

I mean a nice plus is the fact that if you get stuck on something you could always google it and save several aggravating hours and the possibility of putting the game down for weeks, months, or even years. There's also the fact that you can get hard to find games on emulators or by shopping online.

At the same time, most gamers are obnoxious as all hell, especially the fanboys.

As for whether or not they were more fun, I don't know really, it's different and that's a good thing imo.

Interesting. But what if you really like a game, and everyone thinks its horrible?. Of course with common sense its easy to ignore but it does have some (Well i won't say taste bully effect) But it does have some effect on the overall experience. Like there is one word i don't accept, and that is the word overrated. Basically claiming objectively that a popular game is something you dislike.

A game i really like is Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Its this cases i just kinda hate the internet sometimes. I mean one might aswell say that about anything that comes to your mouth about any popular game that you just feel justified by the suprematic high coat smug face "Crash Bandicoot. Its overrated... hmpt ..Sips tea"

Not at all. Youtubers don't take the fun out of a game at all. Just ignore the twats and watch whatever you want : P

Also, online multiplayer? Pretty big thing xD Lots of games would be no fun without it. Mods come to mind as well, no internet means no mods.

Being able to easily look up walkthrough guides, meaning I won't give up a game after weeks of being unable to figure out what the hell I'm doing is a pretty nice touch as well xD

The internet has only improved things, the downsides are pretty small tbh.

Oh believe me, I know that feel. I've mentioned this before, some of my favorite games include Final Fantasy VIII, Starfox Adventures, and Megaman X6, and those aren't exactly the most beloved entries in the series. Still I think my favorite youtuber said it best

@@Trine, Sounds to me like you just care a little too much what other people think. That would affect you whether the internet existed or not.

As someone who tends to like games most don't I find it's imperative to listen to other people's opinions but not let it change your own. The best way to form an opinion is through opposition. Why do you like it? Why don't they like it? Are they working on misinformation? Did they even play a game long enough to work through whatever their problem is? Are they even playing the game right?

Not all opinions are equal or valid no matter what anyone tells you.

Aside from the convenience of being able to lookup walkthroughs and lets plays the internet hasn't affected my gaming habits or enjoyment that much at least not directly (unless you count the internet as acting as competition with gaming for my free time).

Ain't that the truth. I spend a lot of time on the internet that I could use for gaming. I get sucked into webcomics like no other. They've become something of a second love for me, though they'll never replace video games.

Its nothing to do with being open or close minded. Its kinda like if someone locks you in a room and makes you listen to their music. You can leave anytime since the door is unlocked, but you are basically feeling brainwashed by all the nonsensical thumbnails that says "CLICK ME" in the sidebar. In real life it is much easier to do this, because there is no person who keeps a sign that says "THIS GAME SUCKS" or "WOW THIS IS SO HORRIBLE"

Ah MegaMan X6 is too my favorite X game. I played X8 first but then my friends also introduced me to X6, such a brilliant game right there. Those words are true in that link :)

Youtube and this place are my biggest internet time sinks though fanfic writing has also taken up a bit of time since I got into ponies of course the only reason I could it is because I have a few fics on fimfiction.

It's easy enough to just ignore such things. Brainwashing is only effective to the weak-minded or those already inclined to think a certain way.

The internet has been great for gaming personally. It really has helped form many huge communities as well as helped multiplayer games stay alive that wouldn't otherwise.

Sure, some people take advantage of the anonymity to be trolls but that is nothing compared to the benefits.

Thanks to the internet, I've been able to meet many friends who are also into gaming and play with them, even if they live on the other side of the planet, which is incredible if you think about it.

My glory days of gaming was from the years 1998-2010 around that time honestly. I loved it back when we had split screen and all of those older games back on the n64, DC, ps2, gamecube, and etc.

The 3DS is my current favorite system but I am not hyped enough to by one of the newer systems... BUT I do want to play the new Battlefront for sure.

My problems with gaming today, dosen't really have to do with the internet. I think that gaming has become way too easy today.

Back in the days of Ghost n Ghoblins and Castlevania, gaming was really challenging and sometimes even unforgiving. Today, you have FPS's where you regain your health if you wait for awhile.

I can kinda get what you mean.

Although i have a more different point of view. There are games i wanna get actually, i wanna get WiiU because i thought Rayman: Legends was so fun on it.

But i feel most games are trying to be too much retro. Like i have nothing against people wanting to play old games, but if you've seen stuff with the new Mario games for example, there literally is nothing new too it since Mario Sunshine came out (Or well Mario Galaxy was sorta interesting with the gravity) But generally its retro game with candy graphics(Even the older games with the old graphics is better. And riding a Yoshi and the gameplay was much more fluid too). I don't get why people want people not to develop games to be different and flourish new ideas, rather its just like they played as children(Only the controls is slightly more clumsy and with better graphics. Just compare playing as Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations and then play Sonic in Sonic 2 or 3 and see the difference), its like if i asked if music could just stay in LP format because i grew up with it.

Currently playing "Shadow the Hedgehog". I wasn't so good at it when i first played it, now its kinda fun to play to be honest :D
