gaming Opinions of the Kingdom Hearts series?

Actually, COM and KH2 went out of their way to preach that not all Darkness was bad, and it was done believably regardless of the Dark enemies.

It wasn't until BBS came along that the cliche started coming back, and then DDD just more or less made it concrete (and the upcoming Unchained only looks to build on it even more).

It honestly never even felt that way to me. Darkness is evil but the people who are drawn to it aren't in spite of its corrupting ways.

I played and beat both Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 on the PS2 back when they were released. I loved the series and it amazes me how well square enix combined with disney to create this series. The spin off games for the DS & the PSP I have yet to beat but I really ought to set aside some time and play through the entire series. The first kingdom hearts will always be my favorite though. It had such beautiful graphics at the time I remember :).

I really love the Kingdom Hearts series. It's really cool how they add Disney and Final Fantasy characters together and it works really well, in my opinion. It's really great visiting other Disney worlds and it always gives you that nostalgic feeling. I've played all the games that have been out so far and my favorite would have to be Kingdom Hearts 2. The organization fights were pretty amazing, the story was pretty interesting, and the drive forms were awesome to use. I'm also really looking forward to when Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out to see new and returning worlds and how the story will play out.  ^_^

I saw this recently, and it hilariously sums up the story of the series:

I like the series, though. I enjoy getting to play through the Disney worlds, the gameplay, and that music. OMG. Yoko Shimomura is an amazing composer. She got even better once she discovered the oboe and English horn (Birth By Sleep and beyond) I must say.

As much as I have loved the series... It's grown old. Like they have delayed so long for the third game that I virtually just don't care anymore. The spin off games were "meh" at best a lot of the time too sadly... Square Enix honestly should make the third game and finish the series or at least put it to rest for a little while.

Well, it looks like Unchained has turned out to be yet another depressing "This takes place before an established major disaster, so you already know that the good guys here are ultimately screwed no matter what"-fest.

The fact that Yoko is doing the music for Final Fantasy XV makes me super excited for that one. Final Fantasy's music has been off and on since forever and I'm glad someone who's actually awesome is taking up the helm. I know it's blasphemy but I can't stand Uematsu's music 99% of the time.

Better than the opposite, really. In most games, and media in general, the good guys always pull out a win somehow and I wish they'd actually fail more often.

Kingdom Hearts seems like a game series that I would be interested, but with how many side games and spin offs there are, and how convoluted the story has gotten and how hard it is to keep track of, I can't say that I am able to get invested in it.

I've played through and liked 358/2 Days, but I have the original and while there's some stuff I like about it and I've played more than a few hours, I just can't seem to get back into it. I dunno what it is, but the series just doesn't seem to be for me.

But if you overuse the Downer Ending and/or The Bad Guy Wins tropes -- which KH has pretty much done with its more-recent games -- then you just cause Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.

Apathy is exactly the opposite of what the Kingdom Hearts endings have done for me. :P

What can I say, I love it in all its convoluted glory.

Its the game that got me into Shipping before I even knew what shipping even was. I could write a dissertation on the head canons I have come up with involving its insanely complicated plot. I love the art style which actually stands up even now looking back at the PS2 graphics capabilities. I love how deep and weird the rabbit hole of Kingdom hearts really is, and part of me loves that most people get entirely lost trying to follow it. Its the same fascination I had with the majority of LOST.

Is it a masterpiece? No. What it is however is a glorious blend of things that you would think would not go together and then actually worked. By rights this should have been a catastrophe. I mean come on, Final Fantasy and Disney characters along with original characters? That sounds like a terrible fanfic. Yet it just worked together so well and left me adoring the series to this day long after I had stopped playing it.

it may not be for everyone, but I loved it.

Plus I also have a ship fleet from that game like you wouldn't believe, headed by the Flag Ship Soriku, which I was on board with before they even left Destiny Island, and after Dream Drop Distance...well lets just say their hearts met in alternate dimensions and formed to create a song called "Dearly Beloved"... I mean come on, they are basically Telegraphing it at this point.

This should really be commended. They were able to take what sounded like one of the worst ideas ever at the time and ended up turning it into one of the biggest video game franchises ever, now we got people asking them to include freaking Star Wars now.

This series is a great example of the saying "any idea is a great one as long as you know how to execute it"
